American Idol Season 9 Thread of Simon's Swan Song (?)

:lol I live near in Cleveland (near Toledo) and they're supposed to be going live to the "Crystal Party" during the news after Idol goes off

Lee actually sucks bad enough that I would say he wouldn't' get in the top 10 in a few of t those years. He literally is not better than some people I could find busking in the street.

You could say that about many that were on Idol.

Other than Taylor Hicks, none of those people won, though.

The show is pretty much dead without Simon. See you guys when XFactorUSA comes out.

Pretty much anyone from this season(even Crystal) would have been lucky to make the top 10 last year.

Simon is a gimmick and will be a gimmick wherever he goes, he drove Idol at the beginning where his same ol same ol contrived negativity was fresh but it ran its course.

You mean like Bowersox?

My favorite Idol performer is still David Cook. Guy knew how to make his performances fun.

Maybe not the greatest voice of all time but as they say on Idol, he "made every song his own" better than anybody else has by far, smart and nice guy.

If I had to put all of the winners in classes (singing-wise):

A: Carrie, Kelly
B: Ruben, Fantasia, Jordin, David Cook, Kris
C: Taylor, Lee

Even though I think Crystal should have won, I would say the teeny-bopper-douche bag-loving teens did her a favor by not having her win. The runner-ups have always done exponentially better than the winners in the long run.

In a year from now we'll all be saying "Lee who?" after he fades off the map into oblivion. Crystal has nothing to worry about.

The number of also-rans who have become mainstream is significantly smaller than those who have not. Winning still matters.

Lee won because of the judges propping him up week after week, even though his performances didn't deserve it.

My final thoughts:

:lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

The fix was in on this one.

Anyone else feel like they just watched 'Land of the Dinosaurs'?

I hate contemporary music, but goddamn..

I can't imagine anyone under the age of 30 (aka most of Idol's viewers and live audience), having even the first clue about the majority of these performers tonight. I thought my TV was having a white out.

As much as I love the contributions to American music of Alice Cooper, Joe Cocker, Michael McDonald, Chicago, and Brett Michaels (yeah I said it, I'm a former 80s rocker), its sad to see these guys pop up on stage and probably need wheelchairs to make it back to their dressing rooms. The cane Alice Cooper was carrying, probably wasn't a prop.

lack of Adam Lambert-like mega-talent made this season so much more boring.

Yeah, I noticed that too. What would it have taken, like 3 more minutes? Its the damn finale. :lol
I guess you don't know how television works. People don't just decide that they will go long on TV. They have a window of time in which to put on their show. When that window is over, the feed cuts to a different source for video and audio. As it was, the show ran over their alloted time and took an ad break away from local news affiliates. That's going to cost someone some money.

The producers crammed too many people from the musical retirement home into this show and they no doubt went long because of Paula's drugged up, cringe-worthy "roast" of Simon. But that's the risk when you do stuff live. You have to adapt to the situation. Cutting off the end of a crappy performance of a U2 song is by no means a comment on the show. It's just broadcasters trying to do their job properly.

Bullshit result aside, that was a terrible finale. Hardly a fitting send-off for Simon but maybe an appropriate way to mark the inevitable beginning of the end of this show, which begins... now.

Thats BS. The show already ran long. They didnt announce the winner until a few minutes after the planned time. They have also ran long on this show many many times over the years. They ran like 20 minutes long for Idol gives back. Do you think if Ryan was in the middle of announcing the winner that they would just cut it off and go to the nightly news? This was being watched by like 50 million people they could have ran longer if they wanted, they just didnt want to.

Wow I guess I’m one of the few Lee fans here. He hasn't done well the last few shows but I still think he was the best of the group... yeah that’s not saying much. The song choices for Lee in the finale were horrible. I think Simon hinted at that by saying he did the best he could with Beautiful Day.

I agree that he lacks star quality, but if you get past comparing him to the other Idols its pretty cool to see a someone like this win. He is just a simple dude unlike some of the attention whores coughAdamLambert, cough who spend most of their life trying to get people to notice them. Its like Invincible played out in the music industry.

We had that last year with Kris Allen. Why do we need it again?

Yeah, I don't know how you can defend Lee as an Idol winner and in the same breath admit that he lacks star quality, which I imagine is a quite an important quality for someone who is going to be a, um, star.

Lambert wasn't to everyone's taste but there's no arguing that the dude was born to perform on a stage. He had star quality out the wazoo. Lee just comes across as what he is, a regular joe with a bit of talent who hit the jackpot which is the stuff that dreams, but not careers, are made of.

:lol

wow you got me there... seriously last year Lambert lost the show more than Kris won it. Kris only had one good week. Lee on the other hand handily won a number of weeks. You also got to see him progress and grown. Kris just kinda snuck in the last few weeks.

I also wanted to mention the only thing close to a "moment" for me this season was Lee & Crystal's duet.

I said he was the best of the bunch and deserved to win. Bowersox is a better musician but she less personable than Lee. He won the show even though Crystal had a much better night, that has to say something about him.

Lambert was great but I think the judges praising everything he did ended up costing him the title. He just took things a little too far and over the top. Had the they reined him in a little he would have won.
