'AMERICAN IDOL' TOPS NETWORK COVERAGE FOR STATE OF UNION
Thu Feb 03 2005 10:42:09 ET

The U.S broadcast TV audience would rather watch freaks sing out of tune than President Bush and Democrats wax politics, overnight ratings show.

One hour of IDOL on one network pulled a higher ratings average than 2 hours of STATE OF THE UNION -- on three networks, combined!

IDOL/FOX [8 PM ET]

17.9 RATING/26 SHARE

STATE OF THE UNION TOTAL BROADCAST NETWORK AVG [9-11 PM ET]

17.6 RATING/26 SHARE

MORE

Flying solo without Democrats during the 9 PM [ET] hour, Bush did top IDOL, but it took all 4 major broadcast networks to do it. The 9 PM total combined average on ABCCBSFOXNBC hit a 22.4 rating/31 share.

But when Bush left the stage, and the Democrats and media analysis took over, the numbers faded.

STATE OF UNION 10 PM ET/COMBINED 3 NETWORK AVG. [ABC, CBS, NBC]

12.8 RATING/20 SHARE

All numbers do not include cable news coverage of the Washington event.

AMERICA!

FUCK YEAH!!!

It's always like that, no big deal. I was surprised at the sheer number of people who watched the three campaign debates, though.

65+ million plus for the first one, with numbers exceeding 150 million overall.

So these idiots vote this tool back in to office, then they don't watch to see what he has to say?

Brilliant.

I caught a portion of the address on my break at work. Yay for me having social security when it gets to be my turn!

Honestly I don't think the people that voted where the ones watching American Idol. I think voter percentages went up but not that much. It's sort of a sad state of things when people would rather sit at home than maybe spend an hour or two in line to decide the fate of their country for the next four years. A quote comes to mind.

"I will not walk so that a child may live" - Master Shake

Voter apathy sucks... also I hope all that are posting in this thread did indeed go out to vote. Otherwise you really can't complain can you? :D

I was going to watch auchwitz inside the nazi state on PBS but the state of the union address preempted it =(

I never liked wathing th SotU address. It's all a bunch of posturing saying how the administration is going to do all these great things but they never tell you how there going to do it.

Actually I think all us idiots watched it on FNC.

EDIT: And it's not like you guys would have been glued to the TV for President Kerry's SOTU. Actually, maybe you would have been as the media would have played it up bigtime, practically crapping themselves with glee.

Yeah, I imagine that all of the "Jesus-landers" were glued to their TV's for a chance to catch a nobody, a fat ass, and a mannequin tell people they can't sing for shit.

If I recall, Clinton didn't set any records for his SOTU speeches either....

Aw, how cute. The kid still believes in Santa Claus and a liberal media.

I'm sure the Clinton comparison means something.... what I have no idea....

Can you, like your idol Ann Coulter:)lol), provide definite empircal evidence that a "liberal media" exists?

I didn't think so.

Your party controls ALL facets of government; your party talking heads garner the largest audiences(Rush, and FNC respectively). Yet you conservatives still ramble on about the liberal media.

If you don't like the headlines, reports, or articles that are seemingly slanted against the Bush administration, then maybe they should rethink their actions.

What's even more funny about the whole liberal media bullshit is that both CNN and MSNBC, in an attempt to boost profits and ratings, are beginning to mimic FNC's way of broadcasting "news." You know; omission of facts, gross generalizations, continued one-sided analysis, and the mocking of the Democratic party.

But damn that liberal NY TIMES!!!! They're ruining the fabric of this country!!

I especially LOVE the latest liberal spin on the Iraqi elections -- you know, comparing their total voter turn-out to that of America's.

But wait! What they're not telling is that while yes, 60% of registered Iraqi's did vote, the common number of registered voters in America actually voting usually hovers between 80-90%.

Damn the liberal media for conflating the two!! I don't think the Bush administration could have ordered a better spin job if they wanted to.

You read all of theirs, too?
I didn't ask you for any proof. Barring occasional reading up on important topics, I'm done researching the issue -- I've done my homework and I'm comfortable saying that most of the mainstream media (ABC/CBS/NBC/the Times/whatever) was pulling for a Kerry win, and that if it was him giving the speech they would have been far less critical and straining to control their excitement leading up to the blessed event.
