American Soccer |OT2| Party Like It's 1999.

Got my tickets for the US-Honduras qualifier in San Jose via the US Soccer lottery. Seems like they were having trouble selling them since they offered up to a lot of different groups. I'll be curious to see how the sales go.

San Jose Earthquakes Season Preview:

Key additions: Danny Hoesen (ST), Jahmir Hyka (A-mid), Florian Jungwirth (CB), Marco Ureña (ST), Nick Lima (RB)

Key departures: Alberto Quintero (was on loan), Clarence Goodson (medical issues), Innocent Emeghara (former DP, waived), Henok Goitom (former DP, waived)

Projected Lineup: Bingham; Lima, Bernardez, Jungwirth, Francis; Godoy, Alashe; Dawkins, Hyka; Hoesen, Wondolowski

Contributors off the bench: Thompson, Ceren, Yueill, Salinas, Ureña

Best case scenario: With the backline stabilized, the Quakes' defense continues their stingy ways while the new additions up top (mainly Hoesen and Hyka) provide a little more scoring punch than the anemic offenses of the past few seasons. The Quakes remain in contention until the Summer transfer window where they splash the cash on 2-3 DPs and ride a win streak into the playoffs.

Worst case scenario: Despite the reinforcements, the Quakes still can't score and play to a number of 1-0 losses and 0-0 draws. They're out of contention by the Summer and Kinnear is fired. They don't make the playoffs.

Summary: There were a number of moves made late this preseason to try and bolster the offense, but the Quakes managed to keep those signings all in the non-DP category, so they still have 3 spots available. As always, Kinnear's team will be tight on defense, but the ever-present question is whether they have enough firepower to win some games. Hard to say at this point. The addition of the new, forward thinking GM Jesse Fioranelli has made fans slightly more optimistic, and some of the younger players (Thompson, Yueill, Lima) will hopefully get some time this year. We'll see...

forgot to post it here but Impact signed Adrián Arregui, a midfielder from Argentine Primera Division, so that sounds exciting

Anyone interested in writing up a brief team preview for whichever team you support? I'll probably do one for the Quakes
since I know you all care very deeply about them.
I'll include key additions and departures, projected lineup, best case scenario and worst case scenario or something like that.

Yeah, I'll do one for TFC this weekend.

Yoooooo. All these Preseason games are fucking my Fantasy Team selection up. Glad there is unlimited xfers this season cause... gat damn.

Edit: Speaking of which. This where I am at rn. I am going with Jozy and Lord Mullins. Jozy's Paper Mache hammys be damned. He was so damn good leading TFC to MLS Cup. I believe. Josef is going to be in the running for the Golden Boot this year along with these two fine gentlemen.

My MF is Lead by DV8. He's one of the best human beings, period. I had mostly a cf97 line up to start out with, but. I mean. ... The way they designed the fantasy league this season basically makes it to where you should stack home team players every week. No more planning ahead for weeks at a time (Which takes a lot of the fun out of it for me)

If Jozy continues to play like he did after coming back from injury last year, and can stay healthy for the whole season, he might be able to make a run at the goal scoring record. Especially considering the extra creative talent TFC got for it's midfield.

EDIT: Oh, it's that time of year? Here's what I've got, might give it a once over before the first games.

I'm so fucking excited for March 3. It's gonna be a good day. Gonna take the day off, play a TON of Zelda, maybe catch Logan and start off the Timbers season. It's gonna be so good. :)

Oh shit, it's that fantasy time again?

- Javier Hernandez in negotiations with MLS over possible move - sources
Major League Soccer has begun negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen and Mexico international forward Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez over a possible move to the U.S., multiple league sources told ESPN FC.

One source said the aim is to bring Hernandez to MLS in the summer of 2018 -- after the expiration of his current contract with Leverkusen -- and thus avoid paying a transfer fee.

There are bound to be other suitors interested in securing Hernandez's services given his international profile, and Leverkusen will be keen to cash in while it still can. So it's possible that MLS's hand could be forced to pay a transfer fee if the competition for Hernandez heats up.

Hernandez's agent did not respond when asked to comment on a potential move to MLS.

This isn't the first time MLS has made a push for the striker. Hernandez was reportedly a target of both the Chicago Fire and Orlando City back in 2015, but his desire to remain in Europe and play in the UEFA Champions League prevented a deal from getting done.

One source indicated that Hernandez's annual salary could be upwards of $9 million, which would be the highest in MLS, but negotiations remain fluid.

TFC v cf97 Live Youtube stream presented by the Rowdies.

We are killing them in St. Pete. 3 - 0 in the first 45' Our attack is so good. That Juninho rocket. David is able to find links more frequently as a result of more possession. Dax isn't taking anyone's shit. Our counter attack is lethal.

Considering this is TFC's starting side that has remained (I believe) the same as all of last season, I am allowing myself to be optimistic about our play continuing on into the regular season.

Atlanta United has sold over 30,000 season tickets for the 2017 Inaugural Season, which ranks Atlanta United second in MLS in season ticket sales (behind only Seattle), and is the most season tickets ever sold for an expansion club. Atlanta will also be home to one of the largest Supporters sections in MLS, with over 4,000 seats filled to date.

Tickets are selling out quickly for the club’s Inaugural match on March 5th against the New York Red Bulls at Bobby Dodd Stadium.

Mix is writing Poetry(?) about his current situation in NYCFC...

mixdiskerudSomebody told me I'm not part of a plan
and if he was I - he'd run like the others ran
'cause the budget is tight
and binding contracts might
be broken, to improve 5-6 positions - in exchange for only one man.
-
He went on to say; "the message is clear -
unless you're clueless - 'cause you've lived it all'year
since the budget is tight
and binding contracts might
not need to be broken if.... you crack, kneel or leave the hemisphere"
-

Who could tell so straight and clearly
tales of destiny I fight sincerely
when mental games
are attempting aims
to make me rage severely?
-
On and on the conversation went
about money spent
and special rules
and mgt's tools
and something about allocation being different cent
-
I wish I had
right there - my pad
'cause then my favorite line
fused by Robin Williams spine
would play dead poets - real bad

- NY Times: U.S. Travel Restrictions Would Damage 2026 World Cup Bid, UEFA President Says
“It will be part of the evaluation, and I am sure it will not help the United States to get the World Cup,” Mr. Ceferin said. “If players cannot come because of political decisions, or populist decisions, then the World Cup cannot be played there. It is true for the United States, but also for all the other countries that would like to organize a World Cup.

“It is the same for the fans, and the journalists, of course. It is the World Cup. They should be able to attend the event, whatever their nationality is. But let’s hope that it does not happen.”

Mr. Ceferin’s warning is significant; in addition to his position leading European soccer, he is a vice president of FIFA, world soccer’s governing body and the organizer of the World Cup. Bids for the 2026 tournament must be submitted by December 2018, before the start of a 13-month evaluation phase. FIFA will choose the host at a congress in May 2020.

Makes you wonder when Orlando (I know the stadium just got built), Portland, Kansas City, San Jose will exand their stadium's capacity.

I honestly don't want us to bid regardless, unless the rules are more transparent. I feel we should have clearly gotten 2022 and corruption got in the way.

Toronto FC Season Preview:

Key additions: Victor Vazquez (Att. Mid.), Chris Mavinga (LB/CB), Sergio Camargo (Mid, HGP), Brandon Aubrey (Def., Superdraft)

Key departures: Will Johnson (free agency to OCSC), Josh Williams (contract expired, went in Re-Entry Draft), Mark Bloom (traded to Atlanta United for Clint Irwin, who was taken in the Expansion Draft)

Projected Lineup: Irwin; Morrow, Zavaleta, Moor, Hagglund, Beitashour; Bradley, Vazquez, Cooper; Giovinco, Altidore

Contributors off the bench: Cheyrou, Endoh, Delgado, Osorio, Ricketts

Best case scenario: MLS Cup champions. We were *THIS* close in 2016, and with the roster largely the same, there's no reason why we shouldn't seriously compete for the Supporter's Shield, Canadian Championship and MLS Cup, the domestic treble.

Worst case scenario: Injuries hit us where it counts, in guys like Giovinco and Altidore, who were both hurt for decent periods last year. It's hard to go from finishing like that to have to count on Jordan Hamilton and Tosaint Ricketts, but both have had flashes of brilliance. Alternately, our older legs in the defense catch up, making life difficult for the young guys in backup.

Summary: We should've won it all last year, and this is absolutely our year. We've reloaded and added some more veteran attacking creativity in the midfield in Vazquez and shored up the backline with Mavinga. It'll help not having to constantly rely on Giovinco, and we should be even more of a nightmare for opponents, especially if guys like Altidore keep a form similar to late last year, where Jozy was pure fire.

I feel like the NYRB one should just say:

No more Dax, 4-2-2-2, who the fuck knows how this is going to go?

Maybe with a 7-0 reference somewhere in there. Seriously, we didn't do a whole lot outside that Dax trade.

Problem is we also have Champions League games this year.
