I managed. To grab a Mario and one of the five Samus Amiibos at a midnight launch. Both are actually quite nice.
My friend grabbed a Link and one of the three Marths they got in, his actually seemed to have a pretty decent face shockingly.

I want to say they don't fall under the Gamer Club stuff? Unless we get discounts on gaming accessories as well but I don't think we do. :'(

Woke up at 5AM this morning. Dug my car out of the snow. Drove to Wal-Mart. They opened at 7AM. High-tailed it to Electronics.
A few guys in line buying Pokémon. Look around for Amiibos. Nothing on display. See several boxes on the floor. Ask the sales rep if they received any Amiibos. She doesn't know what they are, but she tries to help me find them. We start digging thru boxes. Find a box of four Samus amiibos.
Helped her rip open boxes for another fifteen minutes. Only found Samus, Kirby, Pikachu, Link, Yoshi, DK, and Peach. Ended up buying DK, Yoshi, and Pikachu (the Link was a little cross-eyed, otherwise I would have bought him).
I thanked her for being patient with me and helping me find what I was looking for. She said she was "sorry we couldn't find a Mario to go with my Yoshi".
I'm probably going to go back after work today once they have everything set up. Hoping they aren't all sold out when I get there! (And I hope I find a Wii Fit Trainer / Mario!)

These aren't packed in ratioed assortments like Skylanders, they're sent out in packs of 4 per character like Disney Infinity figs.
Retailers can reorder any specific characters they need to restock. Being stuck with shelves full of less popular characters a month into these things won't be an issue, thankfully.

No, that isn't it at all. I'm not saying I'm too cool for these or whatever. If they had some reasonable in-game attributes, I'd probably own a couple, but they don't currently. My point was that it astounds me how many people are buying these figures out of pure compulsion, without even knowing why they bought them or why they should want them.
Shulk amiibo will the the hardest I think, fucking gamestop exclusive -.-
I wonder if I'll have to import it, or it will even show up around here (it will be crazy expecive if it does) oh well...

There are threads where people talk about backing KS for many hundreds. This is small in comparison to what I would call a loose cash issue.

After getting an email that suggested Best Buy fucked up on my Villager pre-order and having a friend confirm that my reservation store only got one Wii Fit Trainer, I decided to get the former and not take any chances on the latter; went to Target this morning right when it opened and was able to score both.
For anecdotal evidence, they had a ton of Mario, DK, Peach, Link and Pikachu. They only had 3-4 Trainers and Villagers.

I ended up just buying Marth and putting the rest on hold until tomorrow morning via in store reservation with Future Shop.
All of them are in stock on Amazon and any other major website except for Marth. I'm looking to get the rare ones not the entire collection.

ZMart is selling these here in Chile, and according to their website, Marth is the first to reach "Critical Stock" status.
Will buy a couple of these after work when I go pick up my Smash Wii U copy. Definitely getting Mario, but who else? I'm torn on Link (because of several game compatibility), Kirby, Peach and Yoshi.

Marth has now almost tripled in price already. All the rest are well in stock. People need to stop using in store stock as a tell for their rarity.

Surprisingly, my local EB Games only had 1 DK to sell at midnight. Figure it was just a coincidence. The manager was expecting the full line though and had a very confused tone in her voice as she questioned her district manager about why she didn't receive any of the 3 we're both assuming are rare. Looks like Future Shop has a bunch in stock though so hopefully in an hour I'll have Marth and I can finally go to sleep.

Speaking of which, if Best Buy doesn't screw me and has my Wii Fit Trainer tonight, I'm willing to sell the dupe to a fellow GAF'er. I paid $12.34 for it (yay, Red Card!) so all I'd be asking for is shipping. Speed/cost is up to you.
I'll post later with an update (I get home from work in ~6 hours).
Both were in plentiful supply at Nintendo World in NYC.

Nintendo World is generally excellent when it comes to stocking the latest releases of everything. In fact, they've never not had enough of anything since I've been going there for the launch of pretty much every game/accessory/system in the past 3 years or so.

And I was wondering this if anyone has any past experiences with Best Buy pre-orders, actually: Has anyone experienced Best Buy not fulfilling a pre-order? I'm not sure if I should trust them for the next wave...
Yeah, I'm so glad that Nintendo decided to release stuff on Fridays. I work in NYC, a block away from the store, so I can just stroll over there before work on a day something releases. And there's always plenty of stock of everything.

I was only getting one, and my GS where I reserved Smash had Samus. So I was good!
