You guys are kidding yourselves, you can't just buy a few. Those gaps will haunt your dreams and burn a hole in your soul.

I realized this from the beginning.

Sure I can, I will buy Zelda and Link, and then I will stop. Unless there is a massive sale.

Toys R Us near me (Irving, TX) was fully stocked. I grabbed Marth & Villager since there was only one facing of each. Rounded out the 3 for $30 with Kirby.

Across the street at GameStop they were also fully stocked, but had about 1/6 the space that TRU had for the product. Couldn't help myself and picked up Fox and Samus while there.

I'm resisting the urge until Duck Hunt comes to town, and of course, to wait and see how the next batches are. Aren't the first ones usually lower quality? I thought that was the rule with Skylanders, at least?

From what we've seen, wave 3 appear to be a decent step-up in the quality department.

I can say that in person, these don't look nearly as bad as I thought they would.

And for her pose, I feel like something more like Pit's is what will happen.....and I actually kinda like the base for Pit.

Believe me, I have Samus and Mario en route as we speak....I just don't really like the ones with the shoehorned in bases. I'm sure Nintendo will learn their lesson as a result.

Went to 4 stores and I saw zero figures for Marth, Wii Fit Trainer, and Villager. Marth is $30 on Amazon through 3rd party. lol

Picked up Samus and Pikachu.

My local Toys R Us had plenty of stock on all figures according to a friend who went. Had him scoop me the full set. Hurray for $200~ less money!

can someone post a close-up of the Link amiibo?

also, I sure hope those things sell like hot cake so Nintendo releases amiibos of Smash assist trophies (and ... stage hazards, I suppose). I need those Skull Kid, Midna, Ridley figurines

Samus without a doubt looks the cheapest. Kirby is the best.

:(

Seems like all except for Marth and Wii Fit Trainer are available at Best Buys in NYC. I take it there won't be a shortage of most of them?

Might be an initial shortage for the popular ones as people are trying to find the next big toy this holiday season. Stories like Marth and WFT being hard to find with increased second-hand prices adds more fuel to the hype.

People who checked out Amiibos in store, how extreme was the variations in quality between each figurine (of the same character, as in, did one Villager look worse than another)? Did some look quite a bit worse than others? Or were they all extremely similar?

Can someone explain amiibos to me? I've been hearing so much about them and don't understand why people are buying them like 5 or 10 at a time.

Imagine Skylanders or Disney Infinity, except the creator has promised that they will work on multiple games rather than just one.

Hence... madness.

Thanks to this thread I managed to snag the last Wii Fit Trainer from my Gamestop when I went in to pick up my GameCube adapter. The store apparently only got one Marth in the entire shipment for more anecdotal evidence on the rarity.

My GameStop only had Marth for those who had pre-ordered. I was unable to get one. They had plenty of everyone else.

My local Target had a lot of Marths. :\

I think she looks pretty damn good.

Mine does at least.

In Smash, each figure is an AI character that you level up and teach stuff. You can save that data into the figure. The same figures unlock some stuff on other games, such as the Link amiibo unlocking a brand new weapon in Hyrule Warriors or a bunch of amiibo unlocking Mii costumes in Mario Kart 8. Future games are supposed to get amiibo support too, such as Captain Toad and Kirby and the Rainbow Curse. The amiibo we are getting are Smash branded, but we are sure getting other amiibo lines too in the future, but nothing is announced so far. Of course, the Smash amiibo only save Smash data, so nothing major will come from them besides being AI characters in SSB or unlocking stuff on other games.

Seems like it might vary by store. The extremely handsome Nintendo rep stocking the shelves at my Best Buy said Wii Fit Trainer, Villager, and Marth were all sold out and they received the fewest of those.

A lot of them had tiny flecks of paint in weird areas. Just a spot here or there that didn't belong.

Villager's nose is painted brown, many of them had an extra strip of brown below the nose, or a little too much paint on the nose that stretched off of it to the left or right onto the face.

All of this was VERY minor though. Had to look close to see it at all, I honestly probably wouldn't have had a problem with any of them, but since I was able to pick and choose obviously I got the best.

She looks huge there.

In person she seems very small actually! Looks awesome, but small.

Cool, thanks.

My Toys R Us had around 30 Marios, and at least 4-5 of the rest. Bummed you can't use Amiibos in Classic mode, thought I'd be able to use them to spam CPUs, lol.

Actually I haven't even shared my experience yet.

Went to my local Toys R Us at 9:40. I thought they opened at 10, they actually opened at 9. However, they were still fully stocked! I might have been the first person to buy any. I wish I had a pic of their Amiibo wall there, it was really impressive. Tons. Very little of it was dedicated to Marth and Wii Fit Trainer, though. Like...if there were 8 racks of Link (with 3 per rack), then there were 2 racks of Marth and 2 of WFT.

I got my pick though. And...I just couldn't help myself. They were 3 for $30! That's saving $4 per figure, so if I got 6 I would save $24! I had to do it.

I got Villager, Donkey Kong, Pikachu, Link, Marth, and Fox. I also have a free Samus coming from TRU online with my Smash order.

Fox probably looks the best out of the ones I bought, he is really nicely detailed. Surprisingly good.

Later my friend called from Best Buy, he had picked up his Smash preorder and said they were sold out completely of Amiibo, so I told him TRU seemed to have a good stock, he was going to head over there.

I don't understand why ANYONE who doesn't post on GAF would want a freaking Marth... are there that many Fire Emblem fans?

I just couldn't pull the trigger on Link. That ugly urine-colored pole. :/
Ha ha. Agreed. Technically I suppose Link is the most valuable at the moment, but that God damn stand.

Probably gonna have to pick up Villager, Marth and Wii Fit trainer seeing as they appear to be the rarest. As for which one I will actually use, I am totally undecided.

Maybe Pikachu, at least until Dedede is released.

He is a rad swordsman though. Feels like a figure to duel against Link or something!

And people do main him in Smash, whether they're Fire Emblem fans or not.

Soo, do we know which ones are the rarest?
I dont want to buy all of them, way to expensive in Europe...

After checking 2 walmarts and a best buy for Marth, I caved and went to Gamestop where I found it. It was also the only place I saw Villager and Wii Fit Trainer. On Amazon, Marth seems like the only figure sold out but available at double value through 3rd party.

I haven't really followed this because I thought it was stupid but... now I want a few but I don't see zero suit samus? Will they release more?

So I just picked up my amiibos and Smash, and I'm opening them now.

Marth's face looks REALLY GOOD. Maybe I just got lucky? I'll try and upload a pic.

EDIT:

WARNING: I took this with a camera phone, with terrible lighting, and my hands are shaky (can't help that...). The photo doesn't do it justice by a long shot. But hopefully you can tell that the paint job on the face looks pretty decent.

And apparently you can store data in them or something? How would that work game to game...

Pre-ordered Mario, Link, and Pikachu, will pick them up once I go get Smash. Any impressions so far?
