Amiibo Discussion Thread

Looks like the packaging does not restrain the figure adequately enough to prevent it from snapping off the base when shaken. Although if that happened during shipping I wouldn't put it up on the shelves like that, so it must have happened in store?

So are Amiibos confined to the games they're being launch in? What I mean is everytime a Amiibo comes out it's pretty much like announcing a new game or a character that will appear in a certain game since as of right now there is no sandbox home for the characters.

Am I the only one who can't find meta knight on Best Buys website to preorder? Seems to be the only exclusive that can't be preordered right now.

It's not available on the website yet, but I think they are a little behind because they haven't even updated Villager's order page yet. It still says available for pre-order. :/

Samus on the way to join the rest of the cast, yay

now that i'm actually playing with them, I can say that I actually like them. They are kind of endearing for some reason.

It's like real life pokemon.

This Samus is almost like a weird friend. It's super nerdy and kinda creepy, but thats just what it feels like. She has he own personality, I care about it, and she's learning.

That being said, idk where I even put it...

I only bought Link so far. I need to stay out of this thread, as every time I enter, my urge to buy more rises.

Yeah I did that too...then dat urge. Got Fox and Marth, although haven't opened Marth yet since people are saying it's rare so will see how it looks after black Friday and see what the online prices are. Might as well sell it if it goes for a decent amount.

Really want to get Metroid and Zelda when she comes out.

It's lIke what I told my friend the other day when we first started leveling my Samus ( and she was beginning to win ) it's like being a proud parent. You teach them and then they start 'getting it' and soon you can't beat them.

I got oddly prideful about it.

I'm worried about pre-ordering any amiibo because I don't know what quality I will end up with. But I'm lucky since right now I would have them as figurines only so I can wait.

I like the analogies in here. Amiibo is a good thing. It's a little quirky and superfluous but endearing, yes. I won't collect them all but I like them. Plain and simple.

They really make me feel like I need to get better at smash. Fighting two at once they're actually gradually pushing me as the level....

So which store has sells them for them for the lowest price?
I think the TRU 3 for $30 offer expired yesterday.

You could always price match the deal elsewhere hoping they don't notice it expired as they usually assume a flyer sale lasts the entire duration of the week.

So are your amiibos "working" accordingly?

I mean when it comes to read and write data. Is it fast to scan? Do they show errors at all?

Do they read a lot faster for mario kart than for smash?

In fact, do you need to read it ONCE for mario kart or every time you start the game?

Yes, fast, easy, no issues, if you pull it away before it finishes saving it gets corrupted but you can easily rescan and save again to fix it.

Yes they read super fast in Kart, it's like instant. Light effect on the pad when you scan. Only need to do it once.

Gf and I went out shopping..showed her what the amiibo is and 30 minutes later we are at store number two and have all of them except marth and villager.

There was a single wii fit trainer on a peg at toys r us..grabbed that shit and we both cheered. Fucking collector disease, i hate it. I feel like a gambler.

They scan pretty fast and I never had an error or anything like. Mario Kart is fairly instant since it just reads the figure and unlocks the suit. It's faster compared to setting the amiibo for editing but the same speed as scanning it for anything else really.

I've preordered my Wave 2 and 3 ones online but I will likely go in store on launch day to ensure I get non wonky manufactured ones and then return my preorders.

Ya I preordered in store. If I look at what they hand me and don't like it, I'll ask for a different one...

I wonder what kids think of these. I only know how adults are responding to them. :P

If anecdotal evidence is worth anything: my cousin and his kids have turned the amiibos into a fun little game where they have them fight and put down bets while the kids do homework or help him do stuff around the house. They have a whole lot of rules set-up on what they get if they win or lose.

They're little kids though and easily amused.

Now that I have all these amiibos..what exactly do they do in smash and mario kart?

From what I know:

Smash = you can summon them and they will fight with or against you. They level up to 50 and get to be pretty hard sparing partners

Kart = unlocks different outfits for miis to wear while racing.

Anything else I'm missing? I just picked up Fox and not really sure what I should do with him either right now. Should I just start playing against him to level him up?

Start playing with him. You'll find pretty quick it will start adapting and they become really awesome bots to play against. I keep bringing in my Samus with local games and my friends and I have way more fun trying to beat her than a lv9 bot.

Well, we had some clue about it:

Brasil dosent have amiibos yet. Nintendo almost dosent exist here, so we dont even have anyone to ask about it.

What we do have in brasil right now is McDonalds giving away Super Mario action figures for the first time ever. Who are the people forming lines to get the super mario toys? Adults.

I think i saw the same thing happening some months ago in korea and (i think) chile.

It seems nostalgia made nintendo a strongest brand between adults than kids

(BTW, im always impressed how there´s a heavy nintendo fanbase in brasil. Anytime you pop Nintendoland or Super Mario/Luigi U is brasilian coments all around. I really dont know this people personally, im the only nintendo fan in a 20km radius)

I decided to buy Marth since he is rare. Target says I should be able to pick it up tomorrow. I think I am going to complete the FE Crew and that is it.

My wife and kids did that this morning during breakfast. Really cool to watch eight FPs learning off of each other, plus it's a super easy way to level them up, AND you get gold/trophies/moves/equipment when you scan them back in. Really satisfied with the Smash functionality.
