Have you never collected anything? The quality of the item matters. As for expectations of quality based on price, consider Beanie Babies which were the equivalent price adjusted for inflation. They were noted for their quality in both design and execution, making them irresistible to many.

All the Amiibo I've gotten (aside from WFT and Marth) have been great...but yeah, if you want good ones you'll have to look for them at the shop. I'm guessing this will get better as they keep making amiibos

Anyone have any leads on the Villager? I can't find him anywhere locally or online...

The Pit Figma is pretty rare, but not sure if his popularity has risen to produce more of his amiibo. Little Mac and Captain Falcon might be a bit rare...I think Shulk will be too.
Decided to make a list:
Ike, Robin, Ness, Dark Pit, Rob, Mr. G&W, Olimar, Shulk, and maybe the 3rd party ones.
Pit, little mac, lucina, palutana, and Meta Knight are maybes.
Diddy Kong is a very unwanted character if the Jakks Pacific figures are any indication so they might make too many of him or almost none of him if they are smart

The store had every figure when i went the day smash came out. You'll probably be fine buying in person without a preorder if you move quickly when they come out.

Marth was like that. WFT and Villager too (to a lesser extent). Pre order the ones you want to be safe and go to your local retailer day 1 to pick out the nicest one

why its a bit crazy that the MK8 tie-in is just costumes, woulda been awesome to develop a personal rival AI (and then can pretty much do horse races between your friends and your amiibos )

so i went to gamestop today and got an amiibo like i said i would earlier. original plan was to buy 1 for me and 1 for my bro. we each ended up getting 2 tho cause honestly they look pretty good in person. I got Yoshi and Samus and he got Fox and Kirby. Used them ingame and it was pretty fun. we let our amiibos duke it out on a 2v2 before we finished playing and mines one, cause well, I'm a good teacher (we were playing 3v3 beforehand). I really like em, I think I'm gonna get pikachu and mario next. Also i forgot to pre order shulk while i was there -_- ill just do it online i guess, don't feel like going back there tomorrow; I'll also pre order DDD since thats the one I really want.

also they level up really fast man. We played for like maybe 40 minutes and both of my amiibos are already 25 while my bro's are at 24.

You open the box, and then take the figure out...and then the packaging goes in the bin with the sticker still on it.

Not true. I pre ordered Marth from Best Buy and never got it. Still waiting (should arrivr Dec 23rd) and there is no guarantee Best Buy will cancel it.

I went to seven different stores today, and didn't find a single Amiibo of Marth/WFT/Villager.

It really sucks for the people that wanted to collect them, and also for the kids that wanted an Amiibo of their favorite character for Christmas. Stores have so many Amiibos of Mario, Link, etc. that no one cares about.

I got mine. I heard the rumor and bought a whopping one of each rare and a single extra Marth for a young family member who is a fan. Its not our fault folks tried to ignore that this was being said and that it made sense considering the unlikelihood of any of these characters getting DLC in other games from their series aside from Villager (who they already missed the boat on by making it paid MK8 DLC).

Played it safe. Worst case my wife's new comain Villager and my new weapon WFT would have Amiibos in my home. Not a loss.

In other words...these things weren't expensive. You waited you can't be mad other folks bought things while they were in stock simply because you "might" change your mind if they became rare later. Same can be said for a lot of things people whine about that become collectible. What's lame is the" blame others because you have regrets" attitude. Own your mistakes.

They don't. They will put a hold on your credit card until the item ships, so those funds won't be available to you. Only Gamestop and Amazon don't put any type of hold/charge until shipment.

What are you talking about? I'm talking about people who buy a shitload of them to resell, not give to friends or relatives. There's a difference.

Well, all the current amiibos are officially "Smash Bros. amiibos". Only Smash Bros. can actually write to them, everything else is limited just to reading, hence why it's all unlocks outside of Smash. I'm sure sooner or later we'll see amiibos expressly for other games, as well as more general purpose ones as well. The Smash ones are really just to test the waters I think.

Only Smash can write data to the current Amiibo, the other games can only read it or recognize that it's a certain character's Amiibo. After the Smash waves are done, they presumably will announce another collection focused on a different game.
