Lost out on grabbing Little Mac by 30 seconds. Literally the person in front of me got the only one on the shelf. Guess I should be a bit faster next time. I'm kind of glad I didn't get him though; I only want him since he's rare but the model isn't very intricate and I don't enjoy his playstyle in Smash.

I consoled myself by adopting a Diddy and Zelda (when I don't even really want those either). Captain Falcon will be mine in the next few days and maybe
definitely
Pit. I swore to myself that I wouldn't get too many amiibos but it does seem like I'm getting a new one every week.

I'm beginning to think wave 1.5 will all end up being hard to track down this year. Pre-orders are sold out on most sites and the current amiibo displays at stores in my area have been picked clean. I know it's anecdotal but here's what I saw today while running around to see if anyone had the new wave in:

Best Buy had like 10 amiibos. Not 10 different characters, 10 total amiibos and a ton of empty space.

Two GameStop locations had only the top 7 amiibos in stock. Mario, DK, Link, Samus, Fox, Peach, and Pikachu. Not a ton of quantities at either place.

Toys R Us had tons of Mario and Pikachu and a handful of the other top 7. They were the best stocked store by far.

Fred Meyer had like 1/3 of a full display. Top 7 only.

What this leads me to believe is that stores aren't getting much in the way of restocks, at least not yet. I can see each place getting a small amount of wave 1.5 and not restocking until after the holiday. I just have the feeling the whole lot of the new wave will be a bitch to track down and end up joining the ranks of WFT, Marth, and Villager.

Sooooo...in all the madness for rarer figurines...retailer musings about how in general they're selling? Anecdotal evidencies, yeah, but I'd like to read them :P

With the first 3 figures of Wave 2 out in the wild, let the speculation for the release date for the rest of Wave 2 begin!!!

I'm thinking next Friday December 19th or earlier in the week like these Wave 2 Amiibos did. Otherwise like after Christmas.

This is madness I'm hiding amiibos in my house and stoping at target every day like they are my dealer. Can you imagine if they pulled this with a Pokemon game? Pokemon figs that you need for the game that come in sealed pokeball packaging with 1 in 50 chance of a shiny Pokemon. Retailers don't have shelf space so Nintendo discontinues figs to make room for new pokemon figs.

They actually did do a smaller scale version of this a year ago. It's just that nobody cared because they were tied to a terrible game (Pokemon Rumble).

Huh, never heard of those. Even a similar base.

I dropped into game in the uk yesterday and managed to pick up captain falcon. They only had two of them and my brother bought the second. Given Nintendo's treatment of the fzero series I wouldn't be surprised if he became the new marth.

My captain Falcon hasn't shipped yet from Best Buy. Only Zelda and Litte Mac had release date changes to December 14th. I decided to order online after how my best buy looked on the launch of the Amiibos. LOL.

I got Zelda, falcon, little Mac, pit, Diddy kong, sheik, Ike, sonic and Megaman coming. LOL

This is definitely an addiction.

The expectations some of you have for a fledgling toy line is totally divorced from reality. No retailer wants to carry and maintain shelf space for 52 separate figures concurrently. A rolling blackout of the less popular characters to make way for new waves was the only way this was ever going to fly. "I can wait until later, they'll still be around" has never, ever, ever been a sensible purchase plan for damn near anything related to collectible figures; It's unfortunate, but it's business as usual that toys don't stick around long.

It's too bad the effect the scalping mentality that's setting in is probably going to have on 'em going forward. People are bellyaching about not being able to buy everything a month after the fact, but generally speaking, if you went in search of a full set within the first few days these came out, assembling it was very doable. Easy, even. You can't say that about many toy launches. In a world where the initial hunt for new toy releases is a guessing game of when something will be shipped and put out, what's been short-packed, and what retailers will even carry it, it was a remarkably well-coordinated and well-stocked release in a world usually marked by chaos, uncertainty, and misinformation.

But now with all this fooferah about discontinuation, that initial wave of sanity has been washed away and we're gonna have jerks with dollar signs in their eyes swooping in immediately to buy up all of the likely short-run characters as soon as new waves hit shelves, and the continued mania in threads like these only guarantees it. Continually parroting "this one is rare, this one is probably going to be rare" is creating a self-fulfilling prophecy; Every time that type of thing is repeated you're helping to paint the scalping jagoffs a crystal clear roadmap to what they should be buying up so that you can't and selling you at a markup.

If everyone interested in certain Wave 2 and 3 figures would have just shut up with the speculation and shown up to get the ones you want the first couple days they hit shelves, you'd have had little problem doing so. But you keep vocalizing for weeks beforehand about how it's a sure bet these one are going to be rare, how everyone should jump on so and so the second they see one, you've painted a big ol' target on it and made everyone's hunt that much harder.

Shig I can say as someone who's been collecting Skylanders for the last few years that I should at least expect a wave of figures to be around for at least a little longer.

I always try to get them as soon as possible but if one of them is hard to get at first at least I can rest easy knowing it'll be restocked before long and I will be able to get it another day.

It's not like we're asking Nintendo to have all 50+ ones on the shelf at the exact same time. But it's not cool that people like me DID go right away and yet still couldn't and might not ever be able to get all 12 of the first wave.

I work at a game store, and I've only seen one villager, no marths.

I did see like 2 wii fit trainers, though.

Wasn't able to buy any because I was trying to get Christmas gifts together. Now I can't get them. I'm a bit pissed about this as I did want Villager and Marth. :(

I still only have link... but I just ordered Pit (target) and shulk (where else?), i'll probably get mario, luigi, toon link aaand... a few others down the road... i don't feel like i need every one of them. anyway, clearly that time has already passed cause i refuse to pay the prices people are wanting for marth

Is it possible that the prices will drop after the holidays are over? I know they won't go down to normal prices, but perhaps less inflated prices?

Value is artificially skyrocketing just now as everyone panics stock will be low. Chances are as time passes the scalpers prices will come down. Maybe not ever to RRP, but certain not over $100 forever. Some of the "fake" scalpers will soon be sitting with multiple copies that they'll end up just wanting to get rid of and make a little coin, but won't get to make 3 x the value.

Nintendo also at any point have the ability to push out more stock, regardless of what PR says. It's not as if these are numbered with a definite finite amount.

So yeah, I do believe some of the craziness will subside after Christmas. Right now in the festive spirit I'd advise people don't be cunts and clean out retail stores, unless it's to share with friends. Online stocks tend to be higher, in-store which is some fans only option, stock is lower.

wtf? Big W is selling them already?

Some posts in Whirlpool suggest that some stores have 'em up already
So bs if true

Its true. I also know from good sources that staff have been secretly laybying stock before it goes on the shelf. Nearly impossible for normal consumers to get one.

I can go to a number of stores so I believe I can at least get the ones I want, but this I'm going to feel bummed out if shelves are empty since I'm going to be there opening time.

Man, what a stupid situation.

I preordered little mac, diddy kong, zelda and lucario from toys r us and diddy little mac and zelda have NO listing on the site anymore...what is going on (USA btw)

Okay, thought I would check the target website. I saw King Decide (a wave 3 figure) was up. This and the Mario amiibo block case were the newest things added since I was on a couple of hours ago. Both are sold out. How? Kind Dedede should only be up for pre-order right now right? Is this just a placeholder while they get it ready or are pre-orders already closed for it? If the latter, wtf.
I'm gonna assume the former though, second wave amiibos are still up for pre-order.

Yeah it's weird too because I got FE:A and thought that the music was awesome so I just went for the soundtrack. The music in the game is indeed awesome. That was back in April last year...it only cost me $45 :$ I actually thought that was too much for on OST at the time but looking back I think it was a good price lol. I don't mean to make you jealous lol, but the discs look awesome lol. I don't think I appreciate the OST as much as I should. Still hasn't registered how rare it is.

Keeping it on topic, I should be getting Villager, Fit Trainer and Marth soon :P

Poor horizon /pats
;~;

I own villager never taking his little butt out of that packaging.
There really is no point in selling him.
This does make me more kneen on paying more attention on wave 2 and 3
But I refuse to buy amiibos characters im not big into marth was not my fav Roy tho give me him lol.

My Villager arrived today :) my other three (Marth, WFT, Kirby) are still in transit from Nintendo UK though, and due to the shitty hermes courier they use I don't know when I'll get them as the last time I had a parcel from Hermes, I had to go pick it up from the self employed drivers house as she wouldn't deliver on weekends or after work!

I really think Nintendo fans should band together and slam Nintendo's twitter for reprints. I mean Nintendo paid attention to things like homosexuals in Tomodachi Life and Rainfall localisation why can't they do something like reprint Amiibos?

Amiibos getting people into retail stores and staring at Wii U's and Nintendo games. Whilst retailers keep on seeing people buying Nintendo products. In these tough retail times. Mission Accomplished Nintendo.

About the scarcity for figurine collectors. Isn't this all part of the fun? I mean, it's not really collecting if you are sitting at a computer and adding things to your checkout cart is it?

Seems like if you are prepared, there's a realistic chance you can catch em all.

You just gotta catch em.

it seems that amiibos were also able to keep GAF focused on Ninendo, considering this (92 long) topic and all the others all around ;p

What. The. Fuck.

I'm almost feeling like I should go get Samus, Fox and Zelda today, since I REALLY want them but that will bring my amiibo count up to 8 in only a few days. I can't keep doing this.
