Was staring at my collection this morning and I can't decide if I want to unbox them or not. I unboxed Villager and Little Mac since I had doubles. They take up soooo much room in the boxes, but the boxes look so nice. Can't decide what to do. Might just unbox the common ones.

Robin is my SSBU main, like hell I'd miss having him in my collection. I didn't buy Marth though because I don't want a Marf in my collection... nor do I like him as a character all that much. Lucina + MRobin = Happiness. Now they just need to sell me a FMordred with blue hair.
Uh no. I'm only buying the ones I want. I don't feel bad because I actually want the ones I'm buying. I'm not buying for the sake of having a complete collection or because one is rare. Hell, I don't even think I'll really be using them. They look cool just sitting there.
Got Pit and Toon Link on lockdown (Pit from AmiAmi, Toon Link from Best Buy). All I need now is secure a Lucario and I'll have Amiibos of all my mains (already have a Villager).
The limited editions ones seem cool, but I'd only be buying them to eventually sell them, and that's a dark road I don't want to go down.

Smash being my fave game, when Melee came out in middle school I had a print out of all of the characters on my wall. When Brawl came out, I added those characters too and made a little area of figures I had. Decided I wanted to get a figure of every Smash character at some point.
This amiibo thing makes it really easy for me for the most part. My little collection has added Mewtwo and Squirtle, I just hope some of the past characters come back and have amiibos.

I definitely want Robin! Played classic mode as him for the first time on a hard difficulty and I was doing awesome! I felt so confident I decided to fight master and crazy hand. Master went down pretty early and then crazy spazzed out and turned into this black cloud dog or something! So I beat that with the amazing Robin (still no lives lost) and it turned into a black cloud sword! That thing beat the hell out of me and wasted me in minutes. That was the first time I encountered the smoke monster and I fear seeing it again, even if I use my main toon link 😣

Just hang onto them. If you really have buyer's remorse you'll likely be able to sell them for more than you paid if you wait long enough. At least that's how I am rationalizing buying them allf, lol. Regardless of practicality, I just think it will be cool to have every single one.
I love this thread. I mean, I'm sorry if you're conflicted, but this is the kind of stuff that we ask ourselves over at FigureGAF every day.
The biggest advice I can give? Set. A. Budget. If you don't have a figure budget, make one. Combine it with your gaming budget if you want. I can spend ~$90 a month on figures. I could spend more, but this makes me set limits for myself. I suggest you do the same. If you're only into Amiibos, set a number. Three? Five? Whatever. Just set a limit, and DO NOT BREAK IT. If it's a dollar amount, use a rollover system.
For example, my figure budget. If there's something I want, I get it as long as it fits in my budget. Really makes you think. My February is light, so this allowed me to spend a little more in a few months for those figures I really, really wanted.
Just some passing advice.

I managed to get little mac this morning of ebay (seller: toy r us), The thing is that I don't live in the states so I can't walk to a store and buy them, the other thing is that many retailers (gamespot for example) Don't accept foreign Credit Cards.
That's why I love Amazon, but sadly I couldn't preorder every amiibo I wanted from them ( captain falcon, pit and little mac) so now I have to camp ebay everyday to try and get my amiibos at an affordable price before their price skyrocket.
God, I fear for shulk, lucario, Meta Knight....

I visited Fred Meyer in Portland this morning and they were selling Wave 1.5 already. Must have started yesterday or something because you could tell they were already hit. They had 1 Little Mac (which I bought) and 3 Zeldas (1 of which I also bought) and then a couple Diddys and then the usual Wave 1 suspects.
So now my count is up to 3:

That's not bad cuz with retail + tax, the price difference is minimal.
It's really a good idea. I used to spend 20-30k a month on these pieces of plastic. Peace of mind is a fantastic thing knowing just how much you're spending.
I've cut back a lot. AmiAmi preorders are low.

LOL this is hilarious. Its basically me earlier this year with my gaming purchases. I went overboard and put too much on my credit card. Now I've laid out the first 6 months of 2015 in such a way that I play through my backlog as if they were releases just coming out. It really started to stack up and I realized I have a new game to play like every week, basically.
Then you start thinking about things like buying a house, having kids, etc. and all this other shit like dumb toys and videogames seems so ridiculous. I think about people fighting to budget in groceries every week or pay for whatever "real world" shit they have going on and I feel like a total wanker with my Little Mac amiibo and whatnot.
Nothing wrong with having some fun, but I think its easy to get carried away with this shit and eventually we can all use a good reality check. I know I recently started to make thankful statements in my prayers before dinner and I honestly think it helps to have an outloud reminder of everything I'm so lucky to have. Lots of other people out there will never be lucky enough to have money to piss away on amiibos. Gotta try and remember that.

Lame that the Wii U and 3DS aren't region free. =(
I can approve of this type of implementation, though an Amiibo is an extremely expensive physical DLC if you only get it for one game.

But the really nice thing is that as time goes by that investment should get better and better as more and more games get DLC added for the figure that you bought.

Why are they discontinuing Amiibo already? I mean I have the entire first wave, but I thought they'd pace themselves with releasing these better. Now I gotta book it to the store to get the Wave 2s before they disappear. God damn this crap; I wasn't intending on getting any of these at first, but my old collector mentality is back in full force here. I pre-ordered Shulk and Metaknight, but apparently I have already missed out on Lucario. Fucking ridiculous!
You must share you secrets! Where? cheapest on ebay is $50 currently. Play-Asia had it for $28 not sure if they still do though.

I saw tons of Marth on sunday/monday when I was out looking for Kirby (which I finally got thanks to a nintendo store restock). Seems like different figures are rare in different regions(uk here). Only ones I really struggled with were kirby and villager.
Because of Smash I suspect. They've made a lot of amiibo that otherwise wouldn't have happened.

If what I'm seeing on Target's site is right, you only have a few hours (probably way less) from the time it shows up to get it.
The amiibo question block case and King Dedede preorder were added only last night probably when I was sleeping and I woke up a few hours later, checked the site, and they were sold out already lol.

Yes, that was my point. The "drop" in price from conventional DLC becomes rather apparent when you get three or four games as it goes from DLC for $13 for a game to DLC for $13 for four games, or 3.25$ per, etc.
In as of so far, I have four amiibos with three of the four being usable everywhere. Giving me:
- Link - Three uses.
- Samus - Two uses. (Hyrule use is pretty pointless, so I don't count it.)
- Kirby - Two uses.
- Pikachu - Pikachu.
No it wouldn't, and it's exactly what they're gonna do.
You still have the rarer, older one. They're totally gonna release a new Villager when the new AC game comes out of the Wii U. They're gonna release a new Link one when Zelda Wii U comes out. It'll be a new pose, but it'll have the same chip.

That's where I disagree with you, I'm thinking different uses on different amiibos. This one is mainly a Smash amiibo, with "added" features for other games. IMO if they do a new amiibo of the same character the main focus will be on another game. I agree with you that maybe the secondary uses (like pass it here and get a costume) might still be the same, but the "main" feature will be different.
Kinda hoping that the same characters will all have the same internals, with only the figure part being different. Allows them to release old characters for new games without removing the collectibility of "discontinued" figures.
Think it depends on how much memory is inside the amiibo. Enough to store profiles for multiple uses, or only one...
