Kinda hoping that the same characters will all have the same internals, with only the figure part being different. Allows them to release old characters for new games without removing the collectibility of "discontinued" figures.

Think it depends on how much memory is inside the amiibo. Enough to store profiles for multiple uses, or only one...

This would be the best solution.

That's where I disagree with you, I'm thinking different uses on different amiibos. This one is mainly a Smash amiibo, with "added" features for other games. IMO if they do a new amiibo of the same character the main focus will be on another game. I agree with you that maybe the secondary uses (like pass it here and get a costume) might still be the same, but the "main" feature will be different.

The only thing I can see is maybe they "upgrade" the internals to do extra things. Like, get the Version 2 Link and you get two costumes for Link instead of one. Get the new Villager and get an extra little island in addition to the island you get with the first version, etc.

The problem is that NFC, as somebody showed me, has a very limited memory. That's why (at least what I think) only Smash is using the figures with that many complexity, and the rest is just "pass X here to get Y".

I don't know how much they can upgrade a NFC chip, tbh. I'll try to search here and find more information about the technology, to see if there's a new model of it.

Too slow sackas!!

3 cpnt falcons was ALL THEY HAD.

Here is the picture I was mentioning above 😠

Has anyone else started to wake up and ask 'what the fuck am I doing?'

I went on a buying rampage and now I feel stupidity and guild. Actually considering cancelling my pre orders.

But they look so good.
I'm just trying to buy the ones I like and which give me most content.

Example:
Yoshi -> Yoshi's Wooly World
Toon Link -> Hyrule Warriors/Zelda U
Kirby -> Kirby and the Rainbow Curse
Fox <- Star Fox U
Shulk -> Xenoblade (?)
Metroid U<- will wait for ZSS

(Ok Captain Falcon looks pretty awesome...)

Well, that's my plan
Btw. has Nintendo mentioned any amiibo function for Tropical Freeze?

So earlier in the thread, there was the picture of the guy (discipable scalper we'll call him) with a shopping cart loaded to the top with wave 2 Amiibo figures.. Including captain falcon! Has anyone else even seen falcon out in the wild yet??

I haven't seen any of the Wave 2 figures in stock anywhere yet.

Pre-ordered a Captain Falcon but thinking of switching it to Lil Mac at the last minute.

Or do I get both as a birthday treat

I dont see that happening. All they have to do is patch the game so an amiibo adds extra content. If Wave 4 has a new Link with a new strip, any game that would use it would need a patch to do so anyway, so why make a new strip on the new Link when you could just keep using the existing strip and make your game patch add the content? Its basically doing 1 step instead of 2.

You can scan daily for bananas or balloons.

Just kidding, haven't heard about it yet.

I understand what you're talking about, but if they plan to do anything that saves on the amiibo, like Smash is doing, then they'll have to get a new chip/strip. Otherwise it can just be an update like you said.

I'm guessing this won't happen because people won't want to spend $13 on a ton of these things if they eventually stop seeing support. However, they'll discontinue a model sooner rather than later in order to keep cycling them. So while Mario and Link may always be available, the Smash models won't be. This allows them to make a ton of NFC chips and then just change the mold.

I mostly see this happening because next year we have Mario Party 10 coming out supporting Amiibos, and a Mario Party line meaning to come out too. If the Smash line is still going (we're at 29 characters right now for Feb) then they need to discontinue a line in order to maintain retail order status. It's smart to simply change Mario to a new model, but still work in other games so that average consumers can still use them. It promotes their new games, keeps the prices the same, and creates demand as each new model is wanted/bought by collectors. Unless they plan to cut price and size, they're not going to be able to keep retail space- which seems to be an issue for them.

IIRC current Amiibos use a tag size of about 1KB. The largest NFC tags I believe are Sony FeliCa tags which max at 1MB but support chaining.

I did find this article that specifically states how one amiibo can read/write for one game only - Link.

They could still work around it. Do what Skylanders Trap Force does. The game allows you to save villains to a trap, one at a time, and switch them in/out of a trap in-game.

All Nintendo would have to do is release an Amiibo repository app that other games can link into. You scan an amiibo that already has stuff on it, it saves it via that app and writes the new game stuff. You want to reload that original data, load up the app and switch it in.

Haha weren't there people scanning their amiibos in HW and only getting 1 Rupee or something like that?

Haha, yes, that's why I got my idea from.

Thanks, so there's a chance.

Thanks for the insight, and I get what you're saying. I'm hoping that they do something like this, tbh, but my inner senses are tingling. Support for multiple games that are just reading a value in the chip/tag I guess they can keep, my only worry is something like Smash integration in future amiibos. Somnid above said that there are bigger NFC chips, so maybe there's still a chance that the future ones will be backwards compatible, but I'll not hold my breath.

Yes, an amiibo data bank, where you could save/backup your amiibo's data and be able to put new data inside of it. I heard somebody talking about this in another topic, but I can't quite remember what he/she said.

Damn Lil Mac is now gone off TRU ebay page. glad a few people got him off there from the thread. The thirst is so fucking real lol.

My buddy just found this on craigslist. It is 18 days old but has been updated to say the game and adapter was sold. I am going to be so envious if he gets that great deal.

Maybe you should check your local craigslist?

I think there's an amiibo data bank in the amiibo system menu...

Do most of the Samus figures have lean to them? There's only 4 (maybe less now) at my walmart (the only store within 10 minutes that sells them), but they all have either bad lean or a butchered paint job on the crotch.

Yup. I could be wrong though, but I think you can scan it every day, so I don't think you're shit out of luck if you only get 1 rupee.

What? Is this for real? I haven't scanned any of mine yet. Do they seriously only give 1 rupee?
It's random. Sometimes you'll get a gold material, sometimes a weapon 3 stars or lower, sometimes 5,000 rupees, sometimes 1.

So far my WFT has given me a total of 3 rupees, I know she's holding out on me.

My Samus crotch is fine, but she does have a slight lean.

I found that option but haven't used that yet, will try in the future.

5 scans per day, non-repeating the same amiibo per scan.

So what's the consensus on DK? Should I get him right now while I'm getting Samus and Fox, or do we think that rumor was BS and he's safe for a while?

Just got an update from Best Buy (US) for my Pit pre-order. Date changed to 12/30. So I guess that is 12/14 for Wave 2.0 and 12/30 for Wave 2.5. Was hoping to get 2.5 before Christmas. I am going to line them up from my daughters bedroom door to the tree. Hoping that will be memorable for her. I would have loved it as a kid.

Gotta sweeten her up, apparently. I had no idea you could scan them more than once. How does this work exactly? Once per day or something? I just got Little Mac, Zelda, and WFT. Zelda upgrades weapons, but the other two give random stuff right?

Pit might be coming out on 12/30. Got an email from Best Buy changing the pre order date from 12/31/15 to 12/30. Usually 12/31 is a place holder so this seems like the date.

Edit: Beaten

Did you want him before you heard he might be discontinued? If yes, buy him. If no, don't. No one knows anything conclusive regarding what will and won't be restocked. Best way to get through this is to make a list of the ones of you want, and pre-order/buy asap. Don't let discontinue-frenzy get the best of you.

BB(US) has not updated my C.Falcon to that date yet so cross fingers?

Yep, once per day.

Also, the Link amiibo unlocks the Spinner weapon.
I believe Toon Link will also unlock it as well.

Good advice. I definitely need to make a list, all this discontinuation shit IS definitely getting to me.

I'm super tempted to take the afternoon off and go Wave 2 Amiibo hunting, but am afraid I won't have any luck. And I hate calling stores for things like this because they never know what I'm talking about or don't care to take the time looking for specific items.

Starting to worry a bit, my amiibo preorders at best buy are all shifting over to the 30th now and the last time this happened (store pick up) they never got in my villager despite having the label printed saying it was ready :(
