This thread alone is insane to read. I'm happy I'm in Europe where there's literally no problem and everything seems to be easy to find - even the ones supposed to be rare like Marth and Villager

Just bought Link! So now I have him, Zelda, Little Mac, and WiiFit Trainer. I think I am done, but I almost pulled the trigger on the last Fox. They were also down to 2 Samus. I think we will see these things selling out more than we imagined.
Keep in mind they gotta make room for wave 3 and eventually there will be other Amiibos to replace the Smash line. It's only going to get tighter in the fight for shelf space.

Picked up Zelda today, then went best buy, and asked if they had lil Mac, guy got it for me...but when they went to ring it up, said they couldn't sell it to me.
I opened 4 of them. I'm in the reprocess of rebuying them for box collection purposes. I love them.

Do you buy amiibos as a investment? Good luck with that and don't open them, but it is uncommon that such figures become a real valuable long term investment.
If you buy amiibos because you like the figures then open the box and have fun with amiibos in games and watching on your shelf
All it takes is for a few of the resellers to see demand die down and get stuck with a ton of inventory they can't move. If enough people stop caring after Xmas, the prices will fall sharply. You might even be able to find all of them in stores by then.
I gave up and put in a second preorder for Wave 2.5 and Wave 3 off amazon.ca. (I'm keeping a sealed set, because there may be value in a 'complete set' down the road, but I also want a set to use.)
After driving around town for the last three days and having Target/Walmart basically say "lol I don't know" to every inquiry I just gave up. My plan had been to preorder a set and then get a set locally in case the delivered ones were beat to hell, but, man, it's just not worth it.
I'm super worried about Shulk and Rosalina, though. My local ebgames stores are such a [expletive]show I need to try and nail it online, and I don't even have THAT luxury with Target...

Same. Especially since Rosalina seems to be in almost every new mario game out lately. I thought with her popularity, she'd be safe.

I went there to get my Princess Zelda preorder which I was alerted to pick up. I saw 2 on the shelf but went over to the counter to pick up my own reserve. Guy told me that it was "pending verification." He said he could cancel my order and I can just buy one off the shelf. I head back to the Amiibo display and they were gone.
I head back to the preorder area and asked if they already canceled my preorder, but thankfully he did not.
Takeaway is, if you see an Amiibo you might someday want, but it. Don't even take you eye off it.
Also, they said all signs are pointing to Fox being the next one on the chopping block, as they are receiving no further shipments. This it's the busiest Best But in Houston, by the way.

Don't even hesitate on "but I'm never going to uuuuuse Wii Fit Trainer". Just open all of them. You'll feel much better! Otherwise, you'll keep thinking about "if" you'll open them.

I decided I didn't want another marth/villager "considering paying too much on the internet" moment today so while I was out trying my luck for new amiibo i grabbed a fox off the shelf.

Got a retail-price WFT off amazon at about the last possible moment. and now fox. Bought diddy off tru.com today. so that make 5 owned and two pre-ordered. the real question how long till I fold and do something stupid for marth and villager?

So has anyone found a Best Buy today that would sell the new ones?
I only have one in my possession which I have opened. I have ordered another 7 or 8 and wanted to know if anyone had tried using them whilst in the packet and whether the sensor can get near enough for it to register. Wishful thinking, I know. Just trying to get the best of both worlds.
Theres a magnetic strip in the bottom of the package blocking it.
At least that's only on amazon, otherwise oh boy.

Some people have found him and pit but it seems to be a crap shoot.
I think if anything some of those snuck in with shipments of the first 3. But the majority
will be later this month. Though when who knows. Since it seems every store is putting them on shelves at different times.

In the Chicago suburbs today, I've managed to find 3 Little Macs, 2 Diddys, and 2 Zelda.
Opened myself one of each to use and display; plan on sitting on the rest and see what happens. I get the feeling this hysteria is all crazy wrong and supplies will be replenished before we know it. But just in case i'll hang onto my extras. we'll see.

That's what i'm hoping for.
Perhaps after Wave 3.
Rather than another wave they just work on stock and then later release more.
So currently I have Mario, Link, Samus, and Zelda. I'm thinking about picking up Captain Falcon, but the only two amiibo among those announced which I plan to get are Shulk and Rosalina.
If Lucina and Robin ever happen, I will definitely get those. Calling Zero Suit Samus and Ganondorf a maybe.

They're making one for every character just haven't announced what's past wave 3 yet.
I just noticed it was out of stock at the best buy store I was at too. I didn't think much of it. I had $25 in reward zone certs, gamers club, and another $10 coupon so my GF and I figured we'd go snag the rest of the first editions we're missing (kirby, peach, pikachu, yoshi, and Mario). Only got 3 of those since Kirby and Mario weren't there. I wouldn't read much into it though. It's friggin Mario.
Looks like Wal-Mart has in store pickup only right now.

I would think that Zero Suit Samus would be a must for anyone, especially considering the fact that she's one of the most beautiful looking characters in the Nintendo universe.

I think much of this delay on wave 2 has to do with the port strikes...sounds like it screwed up shipments for a lot of stores...
You don't think Nintendo is doing this on purpose? This is a classic Beanie Baby tactic. Uncertainty = greater fervor
I got that too. I forgot I even had a preorder of Zelda through amazon. I just went and cancelled it because there are Zeldas all over.

And he actually looks awesome.
Port strike is much more believable... and actually a real thing.

I think the rarity of certain characters is ALL Nintendo...however the seeming delays of shipments and movement of release dates I think is because of the port strike issues...

I think it's a combination of the two.
Ports are definitely hitting them since it seems stock shouldn't be as low as it is.
However I won't say nintendo isn't trying to push the fervor especially with their comments about stock for amiibos that didn't even last a month.

picked up little mac this morning now i just need to wait on pit and captain falcon and i will have the 3 i wanted from wave 2
I noticed I received a delay email from Amazon for the Luigi amiibo with the same delay date of January 13th. The Zelda amiibo was already shipped with Diddy Kong.
I am still waiting for the Rosalina amiibo to finish off my third wave pre-orders.

Zelda was in stock everywhere and from accounts I was told most stores got several of her and one box (which contain 4) of the others.
I had the last Diddy Kong at my local Best Buy in my hands. It was on the shelf so I assumed it was available for purchase. WRONG!!! They confiscated it at the register and simply said sorry it can't be sold til the 19th. Considering this is far from the first time I've had problems with this store in particular I am sending a lengthy complaint letter to corporate for all the good it will do.
On the flip side the lady working at the GameStop I checked was very friendly and took the initiative to check other stores for me leading me to get my little Mac. In contrast to the above I will be writing their corporate email to let them know how well I was treated. Never thought I would do that for GameStop.
tl;dr Fuck Best Buy.
