Also, suggest your kid not dismiss them so fast for not being Skylander clones. The amiibo are much more interesting to play against or team up with than the standard AIs are. They actually learn from their opponents and can be taught to a certain degree particular fighting styles. A way to think of them is this: they are real time Pokemon.

This does not matter to children who probably aren't going to be masters of a video game to begin with. It's cool for high-level players to work with, or for people to experiment and see what aberrant behaviors we can teach them (farming CDs, taunting from kills, etc) but for most kids it's going to be "I can't beat my Amiibo anymore he's too high level :(" and that's about it. However, they ARE nice little toys of characters that usually don't get toys made. If a kid is a big fan of Pit or really likes Bowser Jr, among a few other characters, this is probably their only chance to get a toy of that character. I know that would have been enough to sell me on Amiibos as a kid.

The more important thing is that while most current games use Amiibos as just unlock keys, future games are likely to use them in much more substantial ways. Expect the next E3 to show off some really cool and innovative Amiibo usage in upcoming Nintendo titles. The unlocks are the easy thing to patch in to existing games, titles that truly use them in important ways will take more time to develop (and their existence predicated on the success of the Amiibos in the first place).

Either way: The Smash Amiibos are phase 1. They were a success. Phase 2 will be next Christmas, and much bigger. Expect something interesting.

Opened two of up my newest amiibo and named them.

Diddy (P. Diddy; gave him a purple color)
Luigi (G. Thunder; named after his Super Paper Mario alter ego, Mr. L).

I also have Peach and Zelda, but deciding if I should open and use them or hold and exchange one of them later since I still have the receipt.

Well, I see them a bit differently. I am not a high level player. I have always been pretty terrible but my amiibo are getting really good. I see it more like unleashing my personally trained pets upon opponents pets or opponents directly. Amiibo are a way a scrub like me can put a foot in a more competitive arena as a coach if not as a fighter. I figure that kind of appeal can go for kids too in a "hey, you keep beating me but can you take on my amiibo" kind of way. In other words, perfect for those who are in fact, not masters of Smash.

Gf got me Mario for Christmas, super nice. Glad I waited for him!

Nice addition to the collection.

I also ripped open my DK, I love these more and more. Can't wait for Wave 3.

Kirby Rainbow Curse will acept Kirby, Meta Knight and Dededee amiibos.

Kirby gives a special power all the time, metaknight gives a mask and more atack power and dedede gives his hat and more health

shit, i got doubles and triples of some figures due to forgetting where i ordered and canceled. some places actually came through. i'll be selling them here if people are still looking for them. i'll make a list later.

quick question, so for hyrule warriors, it says you can use the amiibos once a day, does this mean 24 hours later? Or right after midnight it resets and you can use them again?

Hope you got Villager, Mac, Pit, or Falcon, as I'm really looking for them, guess I'll just have to see.

Not going to keep my hopes up, but I am really wanting a Waddle Dee amiibo

This was how the amiibo section looked like on Dec 22nd at the Target in Van Nuys, CA.

It's interesting because this was how it looked earlier in the month.

They actually expanded the section!

Wow that's crazy. I'm really glad amiibo are taking off. I want Nintendo to succeed and anything that helps makes me happy. Hoping after the holidays that this craziness continues!

My cousin actually got me a Marth amiibo for Xmas. I was stunned. He said he found it at a local game shop right off base, and had gotten the last one. I'd just imported a Marth however, and already opened that one.

Debating the morality of flipping this US one. I don't really see the need for two Marths in my collection, and can always pretend my imported one is the one he got me, if asked.

You could sell it to me and I could pay for shipping and give you a little extra for it :)

You can donate it to me :-)

or trade me for a pit

Agreed but I'd argue that Nintendo is missing out on a huge opportunity for DLC down the road. I know I would feel better about buying Ice Climbers DLC if I got an Amiibo to go along with it.
Just no. I'd not want to pay $50 for a dlc just because of a figurine. Kirby amiibo was 119 reais when I checked this week, about $55?
It might be ok if they offered another way to get it digitally but then it would miss the point entirely.

The features they are putting into the games are not enough. They haven't even detailed Captain Toad, and Kirby seems like a big afterthought. They need to make a F2P game where everyone starts out with their Miis, but they can scan an amiibo and unlock that character in the game.

They look soo good in box doe. Every time I get a new one, I admire them in box for at least a few hours before opening them. Then I start to think if I should have opened them all to begin with.

Got a bunch of new Amiibos today as gifts to go with my Zelda and Marth, going to open them up later.
Samus definitely had one too many.
Also, apparently a Gamestop near me has Captain Falcon in stock, so I'm going to check on that after work tomorrow, but not really my hopes up too much.

King Dedede looks fantastic, and Shulk looks just as good. I want to see more of the Blue Bomber, as he's on my "maybe" list. (Despite my user name, I was mostly worried about the quality of that Amiibo.)

...why? None of them have really been shit quality yet, and Megaman looks no different here.

I want to see Sonic & Pacman!

Even Sakurai can't hunt down a Villager.

Shit is OOP as fuck

I just noticed him. I'm obviously tired from my search for the villager.

That Bowser is legit.

Good point, I'd say it would be a good deal based on the assumption that availability isn't an issue. $12.99 for an Amiibo and a download code seems like a better deal than say $5.99 for a code.
