Amiibo Thread 3 | Where release dates are made up and preorders don't matter!

My local (English) Toys"R"us today, strange selection. They must've found a spare box of Pit's out back. Not a Mario or Peach in sight either.

Difference is, you give them away to someone who may really want them. Scalpers just give them to the highest bidder, no matter who the person is, and that person could be a scalper themselves, who just turns around and sells that same Rosa they bought for higher than they bought it for, and the cycle would just go on and on. I mean, it could happen either way, but you giving them free is 10x better than selling them for $50-$60. That's not hard to see at all... Also, I'm pretty sure you don't try and take them out of ppl's hands either, lol.

It's interesting that so far, people are focusing on the INTENT of what people do with them -- and not the fact that, you are taking away extras out of circulation that others could have bought.

I'm not saying anyone is wrong. Just kind of interesting to think about all of this. I guess for me, I never once thought about it on that level, or realized that maybe someone could be view what I was doing, was morally/ethically wrong. I'm still curious to see what others think on it. I appreciate the replies. I myself will think about it.

For me, what always made scalping scummy are:

I. The systematic second hand market of it all. If someone was just buying something, and re-selling on Ebay at a higher price. Fine. But having an entire business w/ all these things in place to tilt things in your favor (bots, people working for you). Cornering the entire market, and exploiting the lack of supply. That to me is the difference between someone flipping, and a scalper almost existing as an industry/or company in itself.

II. Abusing the rules. Like no adhering to 1 per customer at certain stores. Figuring out ways to cheat, and get around them.

III. Buying ENTIRE stocks worth at stores. Because again, they are operating as a business. Instead of being like a regular store that gets stock from warehouses, they are literally going to stores and buying entire stock (I think this is really problematic, but I also think stores should do a better job preventing this). Even though stores still get their money, they could lose customers that were fucked over by them allowing one person to buy up all the stock.

So that's my own views on it.

Basically, just pre-order everything. Nintendo's got to be laughing. "Won't buy our system? Fine. We'll force you to buy our toys!!! (insert evil maniacal laugh)"

I came into collecting late. SO I had to buy all of Wave 1-3 together in a months time. I just missed out on pre-orders for Wave 3.

Moving forward, I will always pre-order. But I think I'm going to ONLY pre-order through Amazon international. I'm done with NA and their shitty release dates, and shitty supply. This Wave has taught me real quick, that I don't like the customer experience NoA is giving NA consumers. I'll glad pay an extra $5-8 to import, and cut out all the non-sense.

I personally think Sheik looks bad in spots. The textures are cool, and the pose is cool. But her face/hair looks kind of herp derp to me. She's my least favorite Wave 3 so far. Also, what is that silver stuff on the front of her bandanna? I had that on mine, and assumed it was an error in paint. I'm not 100% familiar with her in games (I do love her in Smash Wii U, she's actually one of my most played now).

Is that apart of her design?

EDIT: Oh it must be the pin.

Also to be clear, her pose is awesome. Her overall textures are great. I just think her face/hair looks a bit off. But my original post was a bit harsh. She's still awesome.

So that's my own views on it.

The thing is, there are going to be people who are not going to get one. That's a truth. The thing that matters is how the people who DO get one do it. Will they receive one at fair price from someone who picked up a few extra? Or will they be forced to buy one at 3 times the price from a scalper? You can't worry about the people who didn't get one, because there's not going to be 1 amiibo for every person who wants one in the first place.

That's why I feel its the intent that matters.

Thats how I see it anyways

Edit: Thanks for the closeups!

I personally think Sheik looks bad. The textures are cool, and the pose is cool. But her face/hair looks kind of herp derp to me. She's my least favorite Wave 3 so far.

Lucario is my least favorite. Not much detail and mine has weird marks all over it. I finally closely examined all of my amiibos the other night and decided that Lucario is the worst one.

Eh, less derpy than some Marths and Diddys. I still want a Sheik, I just can't find one.

Oh yeah, she's no where derpy as those haha.

Maybe my post was a bit harsh. If you look at her overall amiibo, she's sick. I love her textures and her pose. I just mean her actual face/hair is a bit off to me. But you are right, she doesn't look as bad as those others.

So far Wave 3 has been really fuckin nice quality wise.

Iiiinteresting. I haven't looked that closely to Lucario. But I'll take your word for it. I can tell from a glance he doesn't have that much detail. So that makes sense.

Does anyone know where I can get a decently priced Villager Amiibo? Amazon.de is out and third party sellers won't ship to the U.S. anymore. If anyone here is selling one can you shoot me a PM or link me to a good place I can order one from. Don't care about packaging to the honest. Thanks!

my Tali amiibo arrived today

T_T I want my other preorders to come in already

Lucario is ugly as hell, that's why I hesitated to preorder him 2-3 times on AmiAmi. I guess people like the character. I'm still gonna line up at TRU on Friday (Canada) to see if I can grab one though.

Hmm.. the diameter is 1 and a half inch? It's not too bad since I'm not collecting them all so I guess it's worth considering. Thanks.

Lol. Can't believe you missed our discussion on this last night. I was thinking you were disappointed you lost the file with all the layers and such. But yeah, NeoGAF actually saves a copy of all avatars. Shun actually posted the link last night http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=150227378&postcount=3661
Notice how the image link is NeoGAF itself. So I guess in the future we can be a bit more at ease about accidentally deleting our avatars since GAF has a backup? =P

No, the outer 2" diameter with the inner diameter at 1 3/4"

Maybe I mis-read what the guy said (I didn't see his original post whenever he made it). But he did mention 5, and I said I got 5 Rosies on release. So I just assumed maybe he meant me. If not, my bad.

I did only buy 1 per store (had to go to two Targets that day). And I bought 3 when they sold them online for 40 min (as 3 was the limit). To be clear, I'm not upset or angry. I can understand the debate against buying extras. People complain about scalpers going in and buying multiples (which then cut them out of the hands of others).

So what is different between THAT and someone buying extras to give away free to others, or trade. Well, the difference is the scalper is taking those to flip at 3x the price. So the end result is different (what they do with them). But the issue of someone getting more than ONE..is still the same for the person buying extras for friends.

My personal stance on that has always been, to always follow the rules. If a store has 1 per person, only do one per person. Even though I had someone with me that could have been another person, I still didn't have them get a second one, because other people were in line. We drove to another store that had no line, and had a Rosie, and got the 2nd one. Then found out target.com was selling them for 40 min, so I bought whatever the limit was.

In the case of Target.com, I feel everyone has the same chance as I did to order. It was up for 40 min and there was no site crash. I didn't buy more than what they said I could.

And yet, I can still see the problem some have with it. Really, for me. I've just gone way out of my way to spend money and time to get extras for others. And I've done this 100% free. I never charge anyone for shipping or for the amiibo itself. So basically, I've only gotten extras just to put them in the hands of others that could not get an amiibo they needed. I just want ONE (don't even care what region) of each Amiibo, as I'm opening them and putting them in my display.

But if the conversation starts turning towards that being morally/ethically wrong, I would rather just not do it. As I'm spending my time and money on it. And eh. I don't want to be viewed as a morally/ethically bad person doing something just as bad as scalpers. That doesn't feel good.

Just my thoughts on it. Basically, I can see the point being made. I have no idea if he was talking about me. If he was, I'm really sorry for buying 5 Rosalina's. Just know all 5 of them will go to someone for free (that needed it). I only bought 1 per store and never took more than that. I followed the rules. But if that's still a bad thing to do, then I can't say anything than sorry.

Well do you see what happens when you assume? It wasn't about you it was about another poster here who bought 2 for himself and three for friends just think how you would feel if you got up or was a bit late and someone bought two before you because their friends couldn't be bothered or whatever excuse they'll come back at here with me to get their own.

Just saying I buy one - also so much writing over little figurines.

Damn you guys are right. I just looked closely (took him out of the case). LOL

I think it's was worth having a discussion either ways. I do apologize that I assumed wrong. So I apologize to you. But, i still thought it was worth to discussing. And to be clear, even if you had been talking about me (I know now you weren't), I wouldn't have been offended or upset. It's more along the lines of, didn't know that what I was doing COULD be seen as bad.

Also, I like writing a lot, sorry. For me, it wasn't just about a toy, it was more about the idea of scalping (the morality/ethics behind it), and how much that differs from those that also buy extras (and do the same thing as scalpers).

After braving the dangerous winter roads, I arrived at the Target closest to me. Place is nearly dead.

Went to the game section. Saw the clerk unboxing a brand new shipment of Rosalina Amiibos.

HAPPY DAY.

Apparently the website lied about them having Toon Link though.

As I read your post I see your avatar. He seems happy, very fitting.

I've only seen him in pictures, but I think King Dedede might be the best amiibo yet. It looks picture perfect.

IMO It is.

It has heft. It feels well built. The textures really are intricate and pop (when you hold it in your hand and feel it). It's really amazing. Meta Knight is great too. But it has some eh painting. So actually, I should revise. I like the way Meta Knight pose is, and how he looks at a distance. If you are looking up close, I guess he has some painting issues.

I was originally going to buy all the Pokemon amiibo but after I saw Lucario I just decided not to bother.

I thought it was pretty obvious that Dedede and Meta Knight were going to be the best looking ones. Characters who are too tall or detailed are going to look strange at amiibo height and production quality, while Dedede, MK, Bowser use their width a lot more and have very circular designs.

I think ideally the new policy for limited items like amiibos that stores should enforce is 1 per customer, and if there are extras after everyone in line has gotten one, then you can buy a second one if you go to the back of the line.

Sadly most stores don't care since they get their money either way.

Brickseek says there's Rosalinas in stock at a Target like an hour away. I'm tempted to drive there tomorrow night after work. Ugh.

I actually really like the Lucario amiibo. I thought he looked a bit derpy in the promo images when they announced wave 3, but seeing him in person he's actually quite nice.

Probably helps that I'm a big fan of him, he's surpassed Mewtwo for me :p

One thing I'm learning quick is that, everyone has their own views on which ones look good or bad. And I myself, sometimes think something looks worse than I thought if I go back and look at it again closely. So I'm just going to keep it to myself hahaha (with ranking).

How does Shulk look btw? He IMO looked super derp in the face based on pics. But I haven't seen a close up of his face in person.

Quick swung by Meijer for coffee creamer & checked the amiibo section. 1 Bowser & 1 Toon Link. Will check GameStop tomorrow at Noon after class to see if they've got anything new/updates on their Shulk shipment

Yeah I will probably like it if I can get my hands on one, but I didn't want to import one.

Fair enough. Here's hoping she handles this new found power responsibly.

In other news, someone on reddit was able to buy Megaman, Sonic, King Dedede and Toon Link at Toys R' Us in Winnipeg (Canada). Also in stock was Lucario, Ike, Rosalina and Luma, Bowser and Sheik.

At this rate, I'd assume they'll continue making their way east by the end of the week. However I'm not sure if that shipment is the only one or one of a few.

It's Nintendo, let's assume the former.

Damn can any Canadian Amiibros and Amiigals hook us up in the US with DDD, Sonic, and MegaMan? Lucky. Are they rare for you?

I agree with you on Sheik, Dedede and Meta.

Sheik is one of the worse ones tbh. Can't really pin point what is wrong with her though, just not a big fan.

Dedede is fantastic. Not much else to say.

Meta Knight as you said, looks great at a distance. Having him on my shelf is mighty impressive, the wingspan looks amazing. Up close though, eh. I don't like how his mask is so spotty, they made it look like battle damage, and the tip of his wings were made to look realistic which doesn't work. It's mainly my issues with his Smash design itself though, the actual amiibo made to reflect that design is fantastic I guess.

I will take some Shulk pics now, he's my favourite.
