Amiibo Thread 3 | Where release dates are made up and preorders don't matter!

it's a Mecha Drago, boss of Ch1 in Mother 3, my favorite game of all time. Had partial influence in my username. :)

This specific clay model comes from the Fangamer Mother 3 handbook, a labor of love guidebook to the game made by fans. Had tons of effort put into it, including a ton of new artwork and clay models for the main characters and bosses. Which reminds me, I need to buy a copy while they still have them in stock. Should do that this week...
Gotta get into that series. I downloaded Earthbound on Wii U, so it's in the backlog.

Also, when I first saw your username, I thought of:

Edit: I'm calling it, the single run amiibos will just be variants, like Silver/Gold Mario. It just has to be!

I think I'm done with Amiibos.

Nintendo clearly doesn't give a single fuck about the supply problems. They are doubling down on the issues by creating "exclusive one-run sets".

FUCK that, man.

If it's the Silver/Gold Mario then maybe I'll pass since I don't want to deal with that mess. If it's a character I'd want... I'll be prepared to do anything.

It's going to be a repeat/variant.
Nintendo is heartless with Amiibo but not enough so that they would limit functionality only to this Amiibo. Hopefully.

I can understand were Iwata is coming from with retail space considering there is going to be 50+ amiibos at the end of the year. Retailers can't hold all of them. Maybe an exclusive deal with Amazon could help soften the blow for older characters. It is a tough situation to call right now.

This limited run Amiibo unlocks Earth Bound 2 an unreleased title in the US and is the exclusive way to play. Limited run of 10,000 in NA
I wouldn't put it past them...

Or, you know, Nintendo could sell they directly from their website, too.

Ideally, they would sell them directly through their own web-interface

Maybe a few months later as to not piss off their retail partners

I keep waiting for that to happen but given that it is Nintendo, who knows. Maybe they are waiting to do a limited run of OOP. After all they have to introduce Marth back into the internet somehow.

Something is wrong with me. It makes me want it more. I am the guy they are going after and they have won. I love hunting them down and the satisfaction of finding them, ohhhh yeah. Seriously walked, skipped, out of Toys R Us with Ike, Dedede, Mega Man, and Sonic today like a boss! So dumb that an on sale! $12.15 toy can make a 33 yr old dude so happy. I keep telling myself its for my 7 yr old daughter but who am I kidding? I am the one that has been paranoid about King Dedede for weeks!

They've outright said today the biggest limiting factor is their production capability. As in they don't have enough production lots to make more than what they're already doing (Something I speculated a while ago in a thread on the issue). And this is an issue that can't really be solved quickly, especially since Nintendo is probably using a third party to actually produce them, meaning they need to negotiate and work with the third party to get anything done

Couldn't care less about gold and silver Mario, just like I couldn't really care less about getting the Super Mario series amiibo after buying those characters already. After smash, I'm going to be able to be a lot pickier.

Luckily (or, unluckily for my wallet) there are only 2-3 smash characters I don't really *want* to buy... Lucario being the first so far, but I can take that $39 hit to have the whole collection.

After smash, all rules are off.

Hey everyone, want to know the best way to prevent scalpers for stuff like this? Ignore them and encourage other people to do the same. Scalpers are going to stop buying stuff if it ends up being a loss for them because they can't sell.

I get that amiibo supplies are limited (especially in America), but people need to realize that Nintendo can't just wave a magic wand and instantly increase their production capacity, even if they want to. And part of the issue is that America is a huge ass country with tons of stores that would stock Amiibo's throughout, which is going to greatly limit how much any given store can actually supply

I'm looking at the Best Buy website at Ike and it says Pick Up Today at a couple Best Buy near me. Can they sell it now or what? Everything is closed right now and I may not be able to do anything in the morning about it.

Speaking of Ike, I probably could've gotten one today. I stopped near one while on the way to dinner and they had two. Guy went to get one but his manager said they were for pre-order. Wouldn't want him to get in trouble anyway.

Geez, so now posting about having an extra of something for an even trade is "scalping"? Come on people. Now we're going to start fighting with each other? *sigh*

Wat. They aren't bad thoughts that will stop buying things if we don't believe they exist. If you are telling people to not pay scalper prices for things, you are preaching to the choir, but others still will.

Id definitely get the gold and silver Mario, if that's the limited ones.
They'll be like trophies, really. Evidence that I beat Nintendo at their own game.
I'm not letting them get anything by me, if I can help it.
It seems like they desperately want to keep me from getting it, which makes getting it that much sweeter.

The release date is the 20th, they can't sell it to you yet.

Are we talking Skull Kid limited or Scarf in NA limited.

You will have to get in on two separate preorders, one at gamestop and one at amazon. The gamestop one will go live 5 minutes before the announcement and be sold out by the time it's announced, and the amazon one will go live sometime in the next two weeks after the announcement, likely when you are busy. the preorders will be hard locked and any attempts to transfer them to other people will result in them being cancelled.

The preorders are for two different parts of a key. Which you will have to receive in the mail, and then take to the Nintendo World store, where the first 10 people to get both sets of keys to the store will get the rare gold mario amiibo, while the next 90 people get the silver mario amiibo. If you get there after the first 100 people, don't worry you can still buy a regular mario amiibo for $12.99.

...
is it bad that this idea doesn't actually sound more dumb then a limited hyrule warriors edition exclusive to the nintendo store? It really should, but it still boils down to a no chance in hell I would ever be able to get it without paying a ton of money.

To be fair I don't mind at all if nintendo wants to make limited runs of figures, as long as they aren't unique figures. They can make all the gold and silver mario characters they want and I won't lose sleep over not owning them. Now if a figure unlocks something cool in a future game and I can't get that content without paying high prices because I didn't buy the figure during preorder that is a different story.

Well, I finally was able to come across a Toon Link (that didn't have a fuckawful paint job lol) and I am planning on that being my only amiibo.

While I was hunting for N3DS' and Majora's Mask 3D, the only amiibos I ever saw were Mario, Peach, Diddy, Weegee, Bowser, Zelda, and Pikachu. I saw one Shiek, and one Link. Eeeesh. I feel for you guys.

I figured. Just weird that the one I went to today says there are none available but another close to me says they're available today. They're register locked till the 20th I'm assuming?

Friday morning is going to be ridiculous.
