Points of interest in the video:
>+200k apps
>Roughly 140k of those are games or demos

>Among the most common words used in game titles are many genre names like "Simulator" or "Shooter"
>Also plenty of fantasy themes like "Dungeon" or "Dragon"
>Both "Cat" and "Cats" also made to the top list
>So did "Hentai"
>Entire list here

>Around half of the 50 top rated steam games are considered indie
>Only 4 game developers have more than one game among the top 50 (Valve, SCS Software, Larian Studios, Capcom)
>Entire list here

>Only 12 games in the entire store have an Overwhelmingly negative score, the lowest being War of the Three Kingdoms
>Most of these worst games are spin-offs of popular and well-liked series.
>Entire list here

>Steam offers a total of 447 predefined tags
>Among those, some of the most unusual and rare combinations of otherwise popular tags on their own include:
>>Plataformer + Auto Battler (3 games)
>>Card Game + Shooter (14 games)
>>Rythm-based + Tower Defense (3 games)
>>Fighting + Romance (3 games)
>>Cooking + Sci-fi (10 games - though some just include cooking as a feature)
>List of all tag combinations involving genres (rpg, platformer, etc), themes (fantasy, Sci-fi, etc), perspective (first-person, isometric, etc) and dimension (2D, 2.5D, 3D):
>>Genre-Genre
>>Genre-Theme
>>Genre-Dimension
>>Genre-Perspective
>>Top-themes

>Steady rise of 3D releases, with 2024 having almost as many 3D games released as 2D ones.
>>Graph of dimensions over time

>Around 10% of games have the "female protagonist" tag
>LGBTQ+ tag saw an increase in proportion over the years
>>Though its only present in around 1% to 4% of total releases
>>Oldest game with this tag is Secret of the Magic Crystals, a game about breeding horses.

>Platformers and Roguelikes are twice more popular among indies than AAA (who would've guessed)
>There was a significant increase in the amount of Roguelike Deckbuilders over the last 5-6 years.
>>"Coincidentally" right after Slay the Empire got released.
>Despite increase in releases, most titles in this genre remain niche

The only From Software game in the top 50 is Sekiro. The Steam user base knows what's peak... :messenger_sunglasses:

Didn't know Terraria had more than 1M reviews, that's insane.

Kinda wish Valve would be better gatekeepers of their store. Finding good games thru their own discovery system is nearly impossible these days.

Steam pretty much filters everything that's poorly received, the problem is that there are too many games that aren't necessarily bad getting released. You'll have a sea of 7/10 or 8/10 games to navigate through that you aren't interested in.

Personally i just filter by the tags i want through the interactive recommender when i want to find stuff.

I wonder how much money they make from the porn games....I would prefer them not to allow them, but I bet they are rolling in even more cash because of it.

Doubt its much. Steam isn't a good place for porn games to begin with given how weird their terms for explicit content are.

I'd say majority of the "porn" money in games comes from the gacha industry, most of which aren't even on steam.

I would think they wouldn't keep offering them it it was not profitable.

Time to get working on Chess Spaceburger Time. A science fiction derivative of burger time. You recruit and upgrade chefs who run around a 2d platforming level to compete against other players to prepare meals for aliens by stepping on the giant ingredients. You might actually stand out from the crowd of 100k other games with this design.

Science fiction, cooking tags must also be my speciality genre because I can name 3 off the top of my head. Space Quest 4, Automachef, Last Call BBS.

You can also use Steam Labs for some of their AI based recommendations.

I rarely get weird suggestions from their queues or see those “cat games”. Between filters, ignoring stuff you don’t like, customizing to get rid of games with certain tags and Steam’s discovery mechanism, Steam Store is by far the best at both discovery and filtering out crap.

They probably aren't making a lot off of individual porn games but altogether it's a decent amount. Similar to the plethora of indies that fly under the radar (or are low effort meme games).

Besides, they have to pay a fee to get on Steam in the first place ($100 i believe, unless that was changed). Money is money baby.

Majority of their profits come from their own games and the top sellers combined. The rest is basically extra cash
