Hey guys! The company I work for just launched its newest game for Android and iOS! It's called Letter by Letter! It's an awesome new kind of word game that's sort of Boggle meets Othello. Games are cross compatible with iOS users, so you can play with anybody! It also works great on the Nexus 7! Please check it out!

Hey, I have been playing this game for the last couple of days and it has been great fun. Played against a few randoms and won all my games. I like the large board as well which I think kind of minimises the luck factor involved. Am I correct in assuming that the same word can be created multiple times by either player?

What are the coins used for? Just the Bombs for clearing the tiles?

Edit: If someone else here is playing this, feel free to start a game with me. I have the same username on there.

Yeah, I also get that, seems like the game has a fixed aspect ratio. But the blacks on my GNex are so deep that they blend in with the bezel, so it doesn't really bother me.

Unfortunately, my phone is white. D:

I am enjoying it as well, but it doesn't seem to support my phone's resolution. I get black bars on the top.

The IAPs seem very expensive for what they do. I wonder how many people actually buy those special items and the bottles.
It's fun, but I'm uninstalling once the free bottles run out. Hilarious prices for the IAPs.

I'll just play the regular Zoo Keeper DX that I already paid for.

Bought Catan to play for the first time.

I'm addicted. Does the Android game simulate the board game very closely? Same rules and all that?

Yes, along with some rule variants you can select. The AI players aren't very strong, though - I played a game of Cities & Knights the other day, and won 13-3-2. Since you *start* the game with 3 victory points, that's pretty dire stuff from the computer...

Damn, Zoo Keeper Battle is very fun and addictive. It's a bit of a shame that you can't play versus friends (only randoms), and it's also a bit annoying that you can only amass two CP/"turn points" (not sure what the 'C' actually stands for) at a time (to get more you have to pay for them - hell no). But it's still a very nice game to pick up and play for two or three rounds (you can usually get another CP charged up while playing the first two rounds) and then wait 12+ minutes (you get a new CP every 6 minutes) before picking it up again. And I guess the 2 free CP limit prevents me from wasting too much time on the game, which I'd very much risk doing otherwise. The game has an extremely strong "just one more round" factor.

I downloaded it last night and me and girlfriend couldn't stop playing it. Works and looks really good on the N10.

It's such a simple concept im surprised it hasn't been done before. The round lengths are a perfect length that you probably won't ever be sat staring at the screen looking for another switch. So frantic.

is there a pay version for this?

So I ordered my Note II about a week ago, and it should be here any day now. I've always been indifferent at best to smartphone gaming, but I'm willing to give it a shot. If there is one game that would convert me to an android gamer (paid or free), what would it be? I'm interested in all genres so that's not a factor.

Pendulo's Yesterday has been ported to Android. Gorgeous point and click adventure game. It's about 5 hours long. There's a free trial and a paid full version for 5$.

trial - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bulky.Yesterday
paid full version - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bulky.Yesterday.premium

Paper Monsters is also on Android now
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.crescentmoongames.papermonsters

Is it true that it's similar to Square Enix's recent Android ports in that it's a lazy ios port with no resolution optimisation?

Does most of that 5 hours consist of restarting it when it crashes mid-cutscene? Because that's how the demo went...

Aaaalright guys! I'm getting a Nexus 7 from my gf for Christmas, yay! I'm looking for some Android-only games (and/or apps) that aren't available on iOS, I already have an iPhone for those. :) Input is very muchly welcome! Either just a "best of all"/"Personal favourites" of yours, personally I like TBS/strategy best, but I'm open for anything.

I'm just getting started exploring the strategy offerings on Google Play. I'll put together a post that links to the standouts. What do you like to play on iOS in terms of strategy games?

Touch one because most games come out on both.

I have an iphone and the games I have on my nexus that I also have on iphone play a lot better on nexus so might be worth trying them.

Here is some stuff I currently have installed

Dark meadow
Free. Has IAP's but you dont need to buy any of them. They basically buy you gear. There is plenty of gear you can buy just by playing the game and finding money. You can also find items but they are rare. Its like a first person adventure game mixed in with infinity blade style combat. When you die you wake up agian in your room. The idea is to find a way out of the mansion. I have only put a couple of hours in so far but its pretty fun and looks really nice as well.

Dead Trigger
Zombie survival first person shooter.Again its totally free and you definitely don't need to spend any money to play it. Again there is just a bunch of stuff you can buy with there IAP credit but you dont need any of it. There are plenty of things you can buy with the standard currency. You can also plug in an xbox controller and play it with that.

Shadowgun and shadowgun Dead zone
Shadowgun is a single player game that costs a few £ but I got it in a sale. Its a gears of war style game from a gamplay point of view. Story is a bit cheesy but it is fun and with the free expansion its about 6-8 hours long. I also had this on my iphone. The bigger screen is a lot nicer to play on and if you get the THD version it has extra effects that take advantage of the tegra 3. Dead Zone is the free online multiplayer version of this game. IAP's are purly for cosmetic stuff or paying for a premium account which gives you a few perks. Both work with xbox controller.

Heros of order and chaos
Just came out yesterday. Only played it a little and seems OK. Its free and its a MOBA. It takes a very similar format to the free to play MOBA's you find on PC.

Hero's call
Again its free. Havnt seen a single need to use IAP yet. Again I think its just to buy gold for if you have no patience. Considering its a dungeon crawler in the vein of diablo (but slower paced) I dont know why you would ever buy anything as the point of these games is finding loot, not buying it lol. Has a pretty nice control system.

I plan to pick up both dead space and the mass effect game when I see them on sale. I played though dead space on my iPhone and loved it. Think it will be a lot nicer on the nexus 7 screen. Mass effect I got about half way through until the iphones tiny screen just annoyed me to much and I stopped.

Again these are all available on iPhone as well but almost everything I can see worth playing is on both systems. However if you only have a iPhone and not a iPad its def worth trying them out. Especially considering almost all of those are free with IAP's you dont NEED to buy.

Oh yeah and plague inc is cool if you havnt already played it

Do we have a list of console ports or remakes? I know Chrono Trigger, Jet Set Radio, GTa and Sonic CD exist. I wanna know if there's a good list of everything from official game companies.

Same crap happened with GTA3 and Max Payne...Android version has been weeks late.

Apparently VC actually came out the same time as it did on iOS but the verfication server died due to high traffic so no one could play it.

Also, Max Payne STILL isn't compatible with the GS3. Which doesn't make any sense since my phone can handle plenty of high end games like mass effect and avengers.

Been meaning to ask gaf this. I just bought the Samsung Galaxy S Relay, and was wondering if there were any good games that support QWERTY keyboard sense this phone has a sliding keyboard.

I can do one better. I bought Max Payne when it released. Downloaded and played it for a bit and it ran fine. Then after a while Rockstar put in limits as to which devices are supported and can buy the game. Both of mine aren't in the supported list so now I can't even download the game from the Play store anymore. A game that I paid for, that actually runs fine and they blocked me from downloading it.

Damn, that's dirty pool.

Sure doesn't do any favors for the image/reputation of digital distribution. The app store should always allow you to download something if you've already paid for it. The device restrictions should not apply. They should only apply to new purchases.

Yea it's some pretty shady shit. I'll be getting a Nexus 7 in a few days so let's see if that finally lets me access the content I paid for :|

Who else thinks the Play Store needs some serious redesigns? I want to be able to browse by top downloaded/bought in the past week, month, etc... not a list of best sold of all time. Ugh... Discovering new apps and games through that clusterfuck is next to impossible.

A bunch of EA games went on sale and are for 1$ including Dead Space. I'll post a link to them soon. On my phone right now.

You guys need to check out Cytus, it just got updated. It's a hidden gem, music game that plays basically like DJMax Technika from the arcades. It plays really well on phones.

Can anyone recommend a TADS interpreter for Android? I'm trying out a few Z-machine ones (Jfrotz, ZMPP) but TADS seems less common

Is it actually the top of all time? I thought it was by week/month or something

The transition from phone to tablet is so hard. Wanna install it on my phone instead of tablet but want to keep my phone game free haha

Pretty sure it's updated on a weekly basis. The featured games page seems to get updated every Friday so I have to imagine that's when they update the lists too. It's definitely not an all-time thing, just current popularity.

Cytus is definitely worth getting considering how much it costs, though to be honest I'm not a fan of a lot of the songs and I feel like the note charts could be better. My current music game of choice is O2Jam U. I wish the game wasn't so IAP focused but it has a great song library and the game is way better than it was a couple months ago - Momo Corp actually responded to complaints. Now there's more free songs, you can buy songs with the gems you get from completing songs instead of just the points you need to pay money for, and you can now buy songs permanently instead of only pay-per-play.

I really wish the Play Store allowed me to download the US version of TapSonic, but alas it doesn't.

Contre Jour is finally available for Android, it's one of the best iOS game of 2011

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=LPV7iHzCok0

Play Store

You accidentally linked the video twice :)

There seem to be 2 versions of the game... some kind of region locking going on, so one of these should work

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chillingo.contrejour.android.ajagplay

or

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chillingo.contrejour.android.rowgplay

The game seems to have Cut the Rope kind of gameplay with the aesthetic of Limbo.

google should extend their "refund time" longer for the big file games. it's good both for the consumer and publishers. no one will wants to risk 7 dollars for a game they haven't try yet.

If you're paying 7 dollars for a mobile game then you should know if it'll work and what you're paying into. Some people just don't research and expect it to work regardless, especially if it looks like it's just been ported from iOS
