Android Gaming Thread New OP

Just downloaded Namco's TNA game.

The graphics are very reminiscent of the Nintendo 64 WCW games. The controls suck for me, but that's because they are on screen controls and not using the Xperia gamepad which has totally spoilt me.

Little to no instructions on how to play - it's all button (screen?) mashing really.

Roster quite up to date - you can play as Mr Anderson, Ric Flair etc but it has a couple of odd choices, such as the departed Jay Lethal and Kevin Nash

6.5/10 - hoping it gets better with updates.

Did anybody download Yoo Ninja when it was available as Amazon's free app? I kinda like what I've played so far. It's kinda like VVVVVV meets Canabalt.

I have the free version from Android Market and it's so great! The level design is really well done, I was impressed with it right away. Great bathroom game.

Verrrry quietly, Konami has released an Android version of their 1992 Arcade game X-Men alongside the iPhone release. Grab it now, $2.99! (LINK)

has anyone tried this yet? I hear the controls aren't so hot, but I have no idea if it's down too the usual issues (maybe people complaining were on very old devices)

the iPhone version (released same time) controls are supposed to be fairly tight, so far as plastered-on touchscreen controls go..

i dunno if that game is worth it even if the controls work well, i picked it up on psn and it was kind of boring

wondermega, been playing your 180 game for the past 2-3 weeks and I have to say it's pretty addicting. I'm only at 3 hours and a half though, still need a lot before I "unlock" the game!

thanks for playing :)

For those not in the know, you can buy the full version for 1.99 or get the ad-supported which is free, of course. As you play the free version, features unlock and eventually the ads will disappear permanently as you accumulate time on the game-clock.

I am considering shortening the unlock time - do you feel frustrated that it takes too long, or does it feel fair?

You can make it work. Use google for directions. It is fairly easy to do.
Thanks! Managed to get it via mediafire in the end, not sure what I was expecting but damn PvZ is a disappointment anyway :/ Terrible graphics, awful interface, zero progression/career mode...

I tried setting up a US only account, pulling the market app to my phone and even signing on through a US VPN but still couldn't get around the region restrictions - are there any new ways around it apart from those?

It's just another tower defence game. Tower defence games are to this gen what Tetris clones were to last gen......

It was incredible on the PC though, my favourite tower defence game by a mile... seems to have lost all of that goodness in the port unfortunately

Downloading it right now! (Will be slow since I can't seem to get 4g access by work today)... any other games you (or other GAFfers!) made that I should keep an eye out for?

It's fair... I mean at 4 hours, all 4 modes are already unlocked, and the ads don't really bother me.

10 hours does seem like a lot, but it's really not that bad. I'm sure I'll hit the 10 hours in 3 months time.

Just tried yer 180 game and it feels like a perfect phone game, nice one! Love the idea of unlocking it the more you play.... I thought it was going to be some sort of math based puzzle nightmare (or darts) from the name but was very pleasantly suprised

Xperia play exclusives form one side, Tegra exclusives in the other. Google needs to sort this mess.

I'd rather keep the ability to install apps from any source, like on my PC, instead of being limited by what Google thinks is acceptable.

On my PC, I can buy and install any game without caring about my Mobo manufacturer.

Why do Sony or nVidia not have the right to promote their products as they wish?

They do, but is certainly not good for the consumer or for the platform.

Unfortunately we don't support the Nexus One's 2x1D two finger gestures. Needs to be a phone with actual multi-touch screens, unfortunately.

That's really cool, I wish more developers would do that.

I finally got around to playing Majesty after the free Amazon sale, and I'm pretty impressed with this version. It really manages to capture the spirit of the full version without getting too bogged down in the interface. My only gripe is that your heroes seem much more suicidal, and as far as I know there's no good way to keep them from killing themselves on high-level enemies. They'll run when they're drastically outleveled or low on health, but usually only after it's too late. :(

None that I know of, sadly. I'm assuming there are and have just flown under the radar, because its a perfect fit for a touch based interface. Feels like a piece of the android gaming market that needs some help :^(

Oh man, I didn't know Plants vs Zombies was out on amazon's marketplace. I may have missed it when it was free, but it was totally worth the $1.49 to have it on my phone finally.

I've been playing the Lite version of Grand Prix Story, by the Game Dev Story guys, I found it more interesting than Game Dev, you run a racing team, hire drivers, mechanics, develop cars, upgrade and research parts, and the you go to races, there is a qualifying lap, and then a one lap race, it's automatic, but sometimes you get a boost power and you use it when you want, then you get sponsors, you can have more than one car for the other type of tracks (asphalt, ice, sand..) and more than one group of mechanics..

It plays pretty similar to Game Dev but I like the setting more, it also uses full screen graphics and you can turn the screen too:

It is a really fun game. I played it for hours when I first downloaded it. I haven't played too many games on my Evo yet and this worked great. The touch controls worked well and I had no problems getting my plants in the ground. The game can feel a tad repetitive but when it starts to, you go to a new area of the house and getting more plants always helps. Corn is the best of them all though. I am replaying through the adventure mode right now and Corn cannot be stopped.

Yeah, I'm kinda surprised how well the touch screen controls do work. Especially since the area where you have to tap seems so small.

By the way, I'm using a HTC Droid Incredible, and the game seems to run perfect with no lag. This is a great version of the game.

HexDefense is a tower defense game that needs more love. Graphics are stunning, performance is flawless, and they regularly update it with new content.

I got it for free when it was the free app of the day on amazon app store, but it is definitely worth the price. They recently updated it to 1.3.1 that includes a new mode. http://www.hexdefense.com/

Anyone play Squibble?

If anyone is familiar with Amazon Mechanical Turk, there is currently a "HIT" on there where you get paid $0.50 to make a positive post about Squibble on a gaming forum. Ha.

So there are two games I've noticed my iPhone-using friends play lately. One is called 7 Little Words; you essentially just solve crossword hints. The other is Doodle something (can't remember); you're shown a doodle representing a movie scene and you have to say what movie it's from. Unfortunately neither game is available for Android phones. Anyone know of any good clones?

Other good word game suggestions are also welcome. I already have Words With Friends and play that a lot.

I played GeoDefense Swarm on the iPhone and from playing the first level of HexDefense (on my Nexus S) I've found it's:

- basically the same game, though with some new ideas and some neat things missing
- less pretty, but pretty enough
- upgrades don't increase the range of some towers, which is odd
- the "thumper" analogs don't slow down the creeps like GeoDefense, which is dumb (ie. there's no way to slow creeps down to pound them with splash damage from rockets)
- the sound tends to crap out when things get frenetic (effects either get cut off or are not played .. this might be an Android limitation or poor programming)
- taps on the start hex to kick off a new wave don't register at least half of the time

All up, if you've not played GeoDefense then it's probably a great game, but for me it's a bit of a disappointing imitation.

You could try Wordfeud, there's a free Ad-Supported Version in the Market. It's supposed to be very similar to Words With Friends (which i've never played) but the better app technically, more stable and so on.

$4.79 is really fucking heavy for a mobile game.

However, the good news is that because of GPS release, Hot Springs Story is 80% off for $0.99! Now that's a reasonable price. Just bought it now.

Btw, isn't it kind of ironic that Kairosoft is just regurgitating clones of Game Dev Story, while in Game Dev Story, the easiest way to do well is to just release sequels of your most popular game? :P

No, I don't think 4.79 was that much specially for a game like GDS, which was quite meaty for a mobile game.

Have you played Grand Prix Story? is VERY different from the others.

Grand Prix Story looks fantastic! That's actually the first game I'm going to be jealous that my girlfriend can get on her phone that I can't get on mine - why not iPhone release eh Kairosoft? Shame as she probably won't play it either, will see if I can borrow her phone this weekend.

Hope it's more like Gamedev and less like Hotsprings, I found the latter to be confusing, overwhelming and completely uninteresting.

Huzzah for Kairosoft, another great little game in Grand Prix Story.

Love these little cutesy strategy games, would love to see them tackle something on tablets that has a bit more depth and variety. (Or at least pave the way for civ/sim games to make an appearance on android)

Sim Tower Tablet edition anyone? :-P

Does another N64 apart from N64oid exist for Android? I want to play Zelda: OoT but I'm having problems with N64oid atm, lags a bit. I have an SGS i9000.
