OK, is it me or should Verizon unveil this thing already?!

omg rite said:What exactly is WVGA and the other two I've heard you talk about? I'm a newb at stuff like that. Never really paid much attention to phones, but I'd like to learn.
On that note, VERZION, JUST ANNOUNCE THE DAMN THING. I need to decide if I'm sticking to TM or moving.
WVGA = WIDE-SCREEN VIDEO GRAPHICS ARRAY !omg rite said:What exactly is WVGA and the other two I've heard you talk about? I'm a newb at stuff like that. Never really paid much attention to phones, but I'd like to learn.

W refers to wide-screen.
Q = 1/4
H = Half
F = Full which means that the screen resolution is slightly more.
For exmaple,
QVGA = 240×320
WQVGA = 240×400
FWQVGA = 240×432
HVGA = 320×480
VGA = 480×640
WVGA = 480×800
FWVGA is full wide VGA which is 480×854
HXGA = 480×1024 ( There is only one mobile phone in the world with this screen resolution so far. XGA is 1024×768 ).
...etc.
They are the most common mobile phones display resolutions these days.
I hope that was helpful.
Sadly, you can't.I think I'll get that HXGA phone.

Fatalah said:Just a basic question. What makes a "Google Experience Phone"? And can a non-Google experience phone become one via flashing?
jonnybryce said:Google experience pretty much means nothing, even the Sprint Hero says with Google on the back (the first few shipped didn't, though.) It can be said that it ships with all the Google apps, but it really means nothing.
Andrex said:Oh snap!! Yes, everything I dreamed for, even multitouch! Though, pinch-to-zoom was the reason I wanted multitouch, but small steps...
Two things:
1. It seems they're disregarding their previous Icon Guidelines for 2.0, switching from an up-and-right perspective to just front-on. Don't know if I like this yet.
2. This photo, with the white background, is awesome, and the kind of UI retooling I was hoping for, so I was disappointed when the rest of the settings screens still featured the gray background. Eh. I also love the new "tabs" which you can see at the top of this photo. Very slick, just like the new app tray tab.
Stock Android from AOSP + Proprietary Google Apps = Google Experience
I think there's a difference now between the two.
Google Experience is what I mentioned above. "With Google" is when a phone manufacturer licenses the apps from Google, and negotiates a further deal to put their name on their device. It's getting a bit confusing and I wish Google would put up a chart or something on the Android Developer site or something.
Skittleguy said:I still don't get it. 1.6 is just out on T-Mobile (and being incorporated into other roms) and Google hasn't even begun to discuss 2.0 features and whatnot, then WHAM, we get hit with what looks to be an almost production release of the rom. What the hell, Google?
jonnybryce said:Oh. Droid Dog had posted that there's no difference, but if you see one then it is simply yet another thing that Droid Dog has gotten wrong.
Also is there a rumor that the Moto Droid ships with 2.0 or did I make that up? (edit: No I didn't, just wasn't sure for a second. With all the rumors it's easy to become confused.)
Contacts seem to be much more roomy and theres some great functionality built right in. Instead of hitting the contact and then diving through it to find the contact information you need, just tap the contacts photo. Up will spring a clean and tidy sub-menu with the pertinent information which can be clicked on. Send someone an email instantly, open up their Facebook profile, or even call them! Very cool and all great things that we love seeing.
I figured. It just doesn't make sense to not have an announcement concerning Eclair features, but still deliver an Eclair to the Googleplex. I guess they'll have to say something soon now.Andrex said:When they were trying to clear up the "Trunk Names vs Version Names" nonsense, they hinted that they work on all the sources in tandem, and I think that's why 1.6/Cupcake took so long - they were working on 2.0/Eclair at the same time.

Sony Ericsson Q3 slump buoyed by new financing, a rumored November launch for XPERIA X3

Bad news, good news, and potentially great news time, folks. First with the bad: Sony Ericsson posted another loss for its fiscal third quarter, to the tune of 164 million euro (about $244 million US), blaming a large chunk of that on a drop in sales. Sales dropped year-over-year 40 percent to 1.6 billion euro, and unit shipments comparably down 45 percent. That's the bad, now what's good for SE is that its secured more financial backing to reshape its future into something more profitable. External financing totals a reported 455 million euro ($676 million US), 255 million of which is already in the company's position and 200 million as a two-year backup. SE also managed to beat analyst estimates, losing less than anticipated, and that's gotta induce some bittersweet smiles in the corporate boardrooms... oh, the potentially great news? Well, SEMC blog has boldly announced that the Android-imbued Rachael (a.k.a. XPERIA X3) is due out this November, same specs as we heard before and two color options, Sensuous Black and Luster White. Unfortunately, we're not seeing exactly where this news is coming for, so until SE speaks the magic words, we're considering it a rumor for now -- but we're hopeful.
PSGames said:That SE phone sounds interesting. What are the specs on it?
jonnybryce said:Seeing as how AT&T hates Android, does anyone think there's any chance T-Mobile USA will pick up the X3 or will it be one of those "You want it, pay hundreds online at SE.com" phones?
SE's W810i was locked to Cingular IIRC. It was software unlockable though. Actually, I think a lot of SE phones were locked back in '06 and before. PEACE.Andrex said:Three WVGA Android phones before 2009 ends (Moto Droid, Xperia X3, Acer Liquid), one of them with a keyboard and two of them with Snapdragon... This is an awesome, awesome year for Android. I'm glad I made this thread.
The latter, most likely. I can't remember the last time I've seen a locked S-E phone, (did they exist to begin with?) Of course, my knowledge of S-E is limited in any case.

Husker86 said:Not sure if you're limiting it to the smartphone segment, but SE has quite a few phones on AT&T that are AT&T branded.
Totakeke said:Cool, Eclair has native Exchange support, another plus for me.
I'm wondering if Rachael still have the custom UI, because that photo there surely doesn't have it. The video that was shown few months back was very cool, but was clearly still a mockup.
