Not sure if this was posted yet, but Engadget is the first online publication with the Nexus One.

They've got crisp screenshots and hands-on impressions of the phone. Click me.

Why is Google doing all of this work for a "Google Phone" when it seemingly is just an unlocked, faster version of the Droid? Aren't they competing with themselves by releasing their "own" Android phone, but promoting the platform? I don't see what they have to gain from this. It reminds me of 3dfx buying STB.

Besides being a bit faster and having a better camera, it doesn't look like much of an improvement over the Droid. Plus I like qwerty keyboards on my phones.

So what's with these weather and RSS apps?
Are they 3rd party or part of 2.1?

Yeah it isn't RSS, just a Google News app. If you want the best RSS reader on the Android (Or even iPhone IMO) just make a homescreen bookmark towards your logged in Google Reader.

Although NewsRoom is kinda cool, I've been having problems with it recently and it just has too much overhead. At the end of the day I prefer functionality over flash and it doesn't even have Google Reader import.

As cool as the Nexus is, as was said a few posts up, the differences between it and the Droid are thankfully not making me regret owning the Droid by any measure and once 2.1 officially drops onto it even less so. Plus I got my physical keyboard. :) Sounds like even the Nexus is still a tinge laggy in parts too according to Engadget. If it had more RAM I'd maybe be a bit more 'eh' but still the Droid is on Verizon and the Nexus isn't so it isn't even an issue - I love my Droid. :D

If people don't mind, I'm thinking of putting the "Meet the Nexus One" thread together this morning. I would expect the next week is going to be crazy for updates.

I think this is a good idea. We're close enough to (supposed) launch at this point.

If it actually goes on sale this Tuesday, I will most likely bite. I'm hoping the single-plan subsidization thing isn't true. I don't want to change my now-grandfathered plan (Family MyFaves plan).

Side-note: It appears the Nexus One has already been rooted.

You don't have to. Just get the phone for $530.00, no need to lose your grandfathered plan.

I think the rumor of the phone being sold under only one contract is true. T-mobile themselves have spent a lot of money promoting the myTouch 3G and I don't think they want the Nexus taking away from that.

From the looks of the leaked screen-shot it looks like even the subsidized version will be sold through Google. So T-mobile will not be showing this phone on their site. :-/ Thus I don't believe there will be more plans available for this phone, at least for a while.

I'm buying one on Tuesday, if they are selling them. I will just have to get a no contract plan.

Time will tell.

There's no way in hell I'm giving up my 1000 minutes + 400 text + unlimited web for less than $100 bucks a month with two lines for the rumored single line plan.

$530 or bust! :D

Really? I'm still getting the error. :-/
What that means--- is that the 404 not found error is gone... the url is registered into Google DNS (most likely) and the page/url is now just not active which is why it went from a "404 Page not found" error page to a Google sanctioned "Oops! We cannot find that page!" which means it's just not switched on yet.

Im heading tommorow to go pick up a Samsung Moment, is there anything I should know about the phone before getting it? I did a search in this thread and didnt come up much but im excited about it because of the full keyboard and android OS.

That's LOLworthy if true. So no even AT&T gets it first? For shame. PEACE.
That's definitely a strange move.

By the way, what satisfaction do you get from the PEACE thing? How come it doesn't matter to you that it's aggravating to the forum members? Is it simply a "I'll do what I want to and everyone else can mind their own business" attitude?

Been here longer than most members, and probably most mods. It's stood the test of time. People will complain about piddling shit forever. I don't need to pay them any mind. I've been doing it for 15+ years (since usenet) so... "from my cold, dead hands." PEACE.

Please post your thoughts once you've had some time with it, I was excited for this one to come out since it's the only decent android phone sprint offers with a hard keyboard afaik. I never got around to checking it out in person since the reviews put me off a bit. It's running 1.5 and isn't scheduled to get the update to 2.1 until "1st half 2010" per the last update I saw from Sprint. If nothing decent comes out of CES for sprint I'll probably grab one myself for the time being...any android phone has to be better than my old flip.

Im absolutely in love with this phone so far, though I've yet to put it through its paces I only got it a few hours ago. My biggest thing so far is how responsive its been when scrolling so far, its synched up with my gmail account so I had a ton of contacts in there. Scrolling up and down doesnt slow to a crawl if I were to go too fast if you know what I mean. There was no hang up. Ill post more impressions in a few hours gonna sit down and get some apps etc for it now.

Magic's getting 2.1? Guess it doesn't count as "first generation." Of course, I think the Rogers version has more RAM than the MyTouch.
Rogers is 32A/EBI1, which means it's essentially a Hero without the 5MP camera.

It's also what made porting Dream roms so goddamn hard...

I've come to be completely accustomed with an on-screen keyboard with the iPhone so a physical keyboard is not a requirement for me at all. I've never actually used a cell phone type physical keyboard before anyway, so no loss there.

I think I've settled on T-Mobile due to the hardware advantage over Sprint in the near term; I can't keep bleeding with AT&T waiting on Sprint into the summer, or even this spring for that matter. I'll just try to use the Sprint rates as a bargaining chip when I setup T-Mobile. I've done all the calculations with taxes and discounts and worse-case I would be stuck paying about $7-$10 more than Sprint per month. Hopefully I can get them to a least match Sprint rates.

This Tuesday will be really interesting with any Nexus One info.

Edit: Any comments on the quailty of T-Mobile service/coverage in the Orlando/East Orlando(UCF) area? Coverage maps indicate great coverage with 3G and maybe EDGE in most areas. But any real world comments?

Whats wrong with the Samsung Moment I was also in the same boat I finally gave in and purchased the Moment.

no, the everything plus 500 plan is technically a referral only plan, and doesn't show up on the website. In theory, you need to know a sprint employee and go through a specific website.

HOWEVER, in practice for promotional purposes, one of the company's VP's made his sprint ID available to anyone in the public that wants to take advantage of the offer. I'm at work and can't search as well as I'd like to here (constant interruptions) but I've posted it before, and can repost the info again if you're interested. It's 50 more minutes than the everything 450 for $10 less per month, so there's no reason not to take advantage of it.

edit: here's the info.

If you didn't get on SERO deal, but would like to get on the Everything Plus Plan, Sprint's VP of Strategy Russ McGuire had posted his email and last 3 digits of the employee ID so people can get on the deal.

http://delivery.sprint.com/m/p/nxt/epc/epclanding.asp

Email: russ.s.mcguire@sprint.com
Last 3 digits of employee ID: 383

I get an employee discount of 25% can that also be applied?

edit: nvm I read on it seems not....has it been confirmed?

Hey, sighting of a new Sony Ericsson android phone.

We just got tipped with a new shot of an unannounced Sony Ericsson phone. We don’t mind getting images of unknown phones and actually we love taking quick peeks at what's cooking right now. Especially when it's phones as cute as the Robyn - an Android smartphone that rightfully deserves a name along the lines of XPERIA X10 mini.

After the QWERTY-equipped Kanna that we told you a few days back, the Robyn is the second Sony Ericsson device that surfaces this year.

The Sony Ericsson Robyn looks exactly like the already announced Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10, but only… twice as smaller. The cutie still packs a touchscreen and runs the Android OS.

Another picture Robyns.

You know, if Android's speech to text is good enough, this might be more than viable as a budget android phone that doesn't stink on design.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but after reading Sprint's CES coverage it doesn't seem like they've got any new phones coming in the immediate future. I guess it's time to go check out the Moment and hope that the 2.1 update comes sooner than later.

A couple concerns after reading more user reviews on it, maybe some of you guys can chime in on these if you've got one:

- Complaints about lack of LED notifications after texts, missed calls, etc.
- Complaints about GPS issues and phone reporting your location incorrectly
- Complaints about face dialing once you've answered a call (accidentally muting, speakerphone, etc)
- Battery life even after changing some of the more battery intensive settings

Is the 2.0/1 update supposed to improve battery life across the board or is it just with certain phones?
