Quick question. I just installed Wavesecure (free account until the 31st March now, thought I'd missed it!) and wondered if I have to leave the app running in thhe background the whole time or is it ok to kill it with ATK?

I don't think it can be completely killed or that would defeat the purpose of it, I know the website said it can't be uninstalled from the phone.

Not Android per se (but maybe will support Android apps???) but here's a short concept video of Googles Chrome OS running on a tablet.

Zero chance it will support Android apps until someone writes an Android emulator in Javascript. Ergo, not within this decade.

10-inch-plus screen tablets = Chrome OS
9-inch-and-below screen tablets = Android

For the foreseeable future, at least.

Those little Androids are awesome!
I'm kind of disappointed there "blind packaged" so you have no way of knowing which one you'll get. Personally the only one I'd want is the plain green one.

And just like that, it's official. Verizon Wireless has today announced that Motorola's scrumptiously named Devour will be heading to its network next month, with it being the first VZW phone to feature Motoblur. Not that we're seeing any surprises here, but a quick specification run down draws our attention to a 3.1-inch capacitive touchscreen, a touch-sensitive navigation pad, a pre-installed 8GB microSD card and Bluetooth support. Unfortunately, there's no apparent mention of multitouch -- and we wouldn't expect it out of the box, since the Devour runs Android 1.6 -- but we're crossing our fingers (and toes, for that matter) for Google to sling that delightful Nexus One update to the rest of its high-powered Android phones in the very near future. There's nary a mention of an asking price, but we'll be sure to keep an eye out as launch day approaches.

Droid has the better everything, except for probably price. Heck it's even running a newer version of Android despite being released earlier.

Indeed, if cost is not prohibitive, the Droid wipes the floor with that thing- though I admit it might have the edge in keyboard layout.

Anyone read this? Not quite sure why Jobs feels so threatened, i don't see Google as wanting to kill the iPhone, i believe the devices are different enough to appeal to different userbases and thus co-exist.

Jobs feels so threatened because Android will eventually become market leader. iPhone is Apple's cash cow of the future since iPod margins will continue to fall an and the monopoly begins to erode. Him being angry at Google for entering the market is perfectly understandable.

I went to the blog where these are being made, but there is really no info as to where I can buy one...Amazon? Google Phone store? They better make these easily available. I'm not much for collecting things (my last "collectible" was a Big Daddy from Bioshock since I liked it's design). But I want these.

Edit:

Found the answer
Series 1 will be available later this month right here in an online Android collectibles shop and in specialty retailers

I just want the plain one. Knowing my luck, I'll never get it. I'll pick up a box. Trades? :D

Trade? It depends where you are located. If you in the states and I happen to have an extra one, sure.

If it's sim free then the Nexus One (Not 'officially' available here but Google will ship to the UK), or the Motorola Milestone via Expansys for £400. On contract it's still got to be the HTC Hero, if you can wait a few months though you'll have the HTC Bravo or perhaps the Xperia X10 to look forward to. Depends on what you want (ie hardware or touch screen keyboard) and what your budget is.

best android phone available in the UK? Don't mind contract or simfree

I'd say Milestone or Nexus One, if you can get it there. Waiting for Milestone in Canada, supposedly Feb 18th.

The Dell Streak (5in Android MID/tablet) has passed through the FCC with AT&T 3G bands.

Yup, seems all but confirmed to be at least AT&T 3G-capable now. Disregarding AT&T's questionable voice coverage, their 3G bands make the Streak a worldwide-capable device.

I ordered the Nexus One and haven't looked back, I love it. It cost me £366 but I'm still waiting for the vat bill which will be about £60. I'm hoping I've got away with it as I received the phone over three weeks ago now but I really can't recommend this phone highly enough.

Motorola Droid + Nexus One + HTC Incredible (+ HTC Droid Eris + Motorola Devour)

HTC sure has an incredible line up of high-end Android phones. (ba dum tish)

HTC Incredible spotted:It's coming to Verizon. IMO, it's nice...but the N1 is a better buy b/c of specs

Holy crap! I think I found my new phone! This looks like a true sequel to the Hero! FINALLY!

but the gui for this one looks a lot smoother than the N1, no?

It does, but it's a matter of preference. The N1 has 512MB of ram. Personally, I'd rather have that over Sense. Sense is quite purdy though.

I'm impressed at how Verizon is providing new Android phones. Keep it up! This is so not expected of Verizon who, before the Droid, was known for having the most boring selection of phones ever.

Once sense is available on a 2.1 handset one of the clever clogs over at XDA will create a custom Rom for the nexus one which adds in the best parts of sense mixed with vanilla Android. As long as you don't mind rooting your handset you won't be missing anything by buying the Nexus.

Wonder if that's a prototype and the final version will have more ram, but I think I'd like the optical over a trackball, this may finally be the phone I've been waiting for.

So, I just won a free Samsung Galaxy from Bell (Canada)

Whats the general consensus on it? Its running on Android 1.5, and its a nice phone...but I have no experience with android. Screen on it is amazing, and its pretty quick on Wifi.

I dont have it activated, since im on Rogers and I cant find anywhere to unlock the phone.

Honestly? Ignoring 1.5 and the older processor it seems to be a really solid phone. It has the most internal storage on an Android device ever (I believe), which of course can all be used for storing apps. As you mentioned, the screen is also AMOLED, the first and the only until Samsung's Behold II and the Nexus One. It's got the other baseline features like Wi-Fi (as you mentioned), a headset jack (which was actually big news because when it was announced the only other Android phones were the G1 and Magic, both of which lacked it), USB, Bluetooth, and MicroSD slot.

If it was Android 1.6 and was available for ~$150 USD on contract I wouldn't hesitate recommending it. And for a free phone, you can do a ton worse.
