The v30, Note 8, and S8 all look more aesthetically pleasing to me than the X. Not feeling the lack of a fingerprint scanner and fast charging brick in the box either.

Managed to get my hands on a free Galaxy S8+ (IPhone 7+ current phone).
I have that itch to come back to android honestly. whats the general consensus of it? Apps aren't an issue. I'll only really miss imessage and some icloud features.

Iphone X is lame. Can't believe someone would pay $1000+tax for that.
Apple just invented OLED displays and wireless charging. It's revolutionary. If anything $1000 is too cheap IMO.
I do wonder what next years will be called. Will they skip over iphone9 now, like Microsoft?
I'm glad that internally the iPhone X is a beast. Makes it more likely that Samsung gives me the dual camera that I want for the S9 and puts more pressure on other Android OEMs.
4K 60fps is the benchmark now.
Hope that the on screen fingerprint scanner is an issue the can get down, otherwise fix that placement.
I think the most important thing that I can hope for is 6GB of ram, but I don't want them to get lazy on improving their software (which has seen improvements over the past few years).

Well their plan is having a wide variety of devices some at affordable price points. Phones are just a repeat of the windows/OS X playbook.

Haha, that iphone camera/sensor cutout is so ugly, and takes up most of the upper area of the screen. They'd may as well have put a bezel there.

As a lover of all things tech who leans Android, Apple haters are far more annoying than anything else, especially in Apple threads.

I'm struggling to figure out what I prefer in regards to slim/no bezels vs usability.
I give the S8/+ the win for design, but I still feel that bezels serve a purpose (the edge screen has gotten in my way more than a few times. Or rather, my hand has gotten in the way).
On the other hand, my Pixel XL bezels make me sad every time I look at it now.
Though that is a longstanding issue with Apple. Probably goes back further than even the iPod.

Google would do good to price their Pixel XL at 649 this time around.
idk if I can be bothered waiting for announcement -> release with the toss up that my carrier here in aus might not even get the pixel although in my heart I know that after having the 6p pixel two is probably the best choice

And suck it, everyone who said Apple would "never do wireless charging like that"

This is going to sound like a stupid question, but how slippery are Qi charging pads? Because they're smaller than the phone, and they also have a bit of height to them, so I'm afraid I'm going to end up accidentally knocking my S8+ right off the charging pad (and off my nightstand).

It depends on the pad you buy. some have magnets in them to hold the phone in place and some have rubber pads (Like the official samsung one does afaik)
Of course you can buy cheaper ones which are normally just plastic so have no grip.

The animoji shit.. that can be done with a normal camera with tracking. Sure the extra sensors on the X might do a better job. But how fucking detailed do you have to get to put a tiger mask on your face? I rolled my eyes during the presentation of him talking about how detailed snapchat is. I know its a popular program but is there really that big of a difference between the normal camera and the more advanced face tracking on the X?
I believe only reason why Apple did adopt the Qi standard is because of so many automakers and other major manufacturer's who have already adopted the standard. Apple Carplay or Android Auto is a software thing. Qi chargers is a hardware thing. I don't think Honda, for instance, would want to deploy different options of their car depending on which phone you have or if they can integrate different wireless charging standards into their cars.
If Apple was going to adopt Qi for the convenience of their consumers, they would have gone with USB-C for their phones. They just make more money with proprietary connections.
I do agree with you, that Apple adopting Qi will help the industry move forward, but I don't think the move was out of generosity from Apple, they just couldn't negotiate with the auto industry and other major players and have them adopt another standard.
Regarding the AR stuff, was Apple just showing basic demos? My Xperia Z3 Compact had an AR feature that mapped whatever surface I was looking at and let you add silly things like these elf looking characters that would walk around the surface. They would react to stuff that you did to them.
