Apple juice and cider are different things.

Looking up on wiki... not really.
For example, according to the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources, "Apple juice and apple cider are both fruit beverages made from apples, but there is a difference between the two. Fresh cider is raw apple juice that has not undergone a filtration process to remove coarse particles of pulp or sediment. Apple juice is juice that has been filtered to remove solids and pasteurized so that it will stay fresh longer. Vacuum sealing and additional filtering extend the shelf life of the juice.

So, in other words, cloudy apple juice.

No, if anything cider should just be apple juice and the shit they sell as apple juice can be called apple flavored sugar water beverage or something like that.

That being said I'd love to find a local bar/store that had a proper selection of good "hard" ciders that weren't super expensive. They are just so refreshing!

Mmm, this thread makes me want to try more ciders. I've had a few but I basically only remember Strongbow. I think it was a bit acidic for my liking, but I shall try more.

yuck, strongbow.

American Cider - Sweet
English - Bitter
French - Dry
(generally speaking imo)

The dry ciders that I've tried are Strongbow, Magners(Manger?), and Redd's Apple Ale. Not my thing, I prefer the sweet. If I want a dry taste, I might as well grab a beer. Gimme the Angry Orchard any day, and Hornsby's. I'm trying to remember what Woodchuck tastes like, I think it's on the sweet side.

The larger has the unfortunate nickname of "wife-beater" around these parts.

Now it's the first thing I associate with the brand. =/

I shall. And yet it seems like you're a member of the sweet cider army, which means we must forever be enemies.

I don't mind if it's a little dry.. the pear cider definitely isn't sweet. I just don't like champagne tasting cider. Some are too dry.

I've grown to love Rekorderlig. It's sugary sweet, but goes down so easy.
