Say this to her when he sees her instead of contacting her via twitter. We don't know what knowledge Iggy has about hip-hop culture. I really wonder if Iggy would get anywhere near as much hate for not rapping in an Australia accent if she just used a general American accent.

I've always thought a large part of the hate is the very specific Atlanta accent she uses.

I'd have to look up the linguistical explanation but that seems to be the case.

I've never heard singers say it's intentional, but it seems most accents are lost when singing in English. I think it's only certain phonemes that carry over, but most don't seem to be the ones that carry an accent (Jamaican seems to be an outlier). Think of all the British invasion bands. Sabbath really comes to mind. Can barely understand Ozzy when speaking. Or think of Shakira.

Rapping on the other hand is much closer to a speaking voice. While you can intentionally hide your accent, you don't have to as much. More comes through, at least when you aren't actively hitting pitches.

It may be how people are traditionally taught to sing, I don't know. But anecdotally this seems to be the case from the music I've heard.

Some of it's phonetics and some of it's tradition. I know when I was in choir, my instructor told us how we should pronounce our vowels. But I just read an article that said a lot of it has to do with the fact that a song's melody washes out the intonation of one's normal accent and following the beat washes out the cadence of one's normal accent. Which makes some sense. The result is a more "generic" accent that just happens to somewhat resemble "standard" American English.

However, I would say that there is a notable exception--country music.

As for rapping, I'm not sure. Following the beats of hip hop might standardize the cadence of one's speech to an extent. But since there isn't as much of a melody to follow, accents are probably more likely to shine through, I would think. That said, I do know that people lose their stutters when they sing. And I'm fairly certain that's true for rapping as well. So while rapping is perhaps closer to normal speech, it's definitely not the same.
 
I can't believe people are still commenting on that GIF as if he's Anonymous. He's not Anonymous. He's literally the opposite of Anonymous. But that's okay. Keep making your fat jokes. Francis doesn't care. He's heard them all.

This whole thing is probably their version of a satire of what NK did to Sony by making threats that they can't possibly deliver on. Unfortunately it's not informative or funny.

I am pretty sure he's from Hackney and I know a fair few white guys that sound like him or Ashley from phoneshop. That's just the type of people they hung out with.

Seems there's some Twitter drama between @TheAnonMessage, who pulled this stunt, and @YourAnonNews, who wanted no part in it. @YourAnonNews is focused on activism and fighting censorship; they don't give a shit about celebrity beefs and they're better for it, imo.

You're right i've just checked his wiki and he is from Hackney, i know the accent you mean as well, plenty of London rappers have it.

Greens just seems put on and forced to me though, he uses the accent in his tracks when he's trying to sound all street but in interviews it mysteriously vanishes.

This part seemingly makes sense. But I don't think Q-Tip was suggesting that any white person associated with hip-hop is stealing black culture so I'm not sure who T.I. is talking to.
