Another reason why FF7 remake for PS3 is happening

FFVII Demo Footage Comes Home
Square Enix to include PS3 footage with Dirge of Cerberus.
by Anoop Gantayat

November 18, 2005 - Square Enix has an awesome pre-order bonus planned for the Japanese version of Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII, the upcoming PlayStation 2 entry in the company's Compilation of Final Fantasy VII series. Those who pre-order will get a DVD titled Compilation of Final Fantasy VII: Reflections.

Included on this DVD are the Advent Children and Crisis Core trailers that were shown at the Square Enix party back in July. The DVD also includes the Tokyo Game Show 2005 trailers for Dirge of Cerberus itself and Before Crisis.

Likely to be the most anticipated footage on the DVD, though, is the Final Fantasy VII Technical Demo for PS3 trailer. This demo, prepared by Square Enix as a real-time demonstration for the PlayStation 3 and first aired at Sony's E3 press conference, is a recreation of the opening moments of Final Fantasy VII. Square Enix has only showed this trailer to the public at a few exhibitions, but this is the first time we'll be able to enjoy it in direct feed on a television.

Square Enix is quick to remind us that the inclusion of the FFVII trailer on this bonus DVD is no indication that FFVII is being remade for the PS3. Keep that in mind when you're watching the trailer when the 1/26 Japanese release of Dirge of Cerberus comes about.

There's no word yet from Square Enix on the possibility of this DVD's release in America, but we'll keep you posted.

The trailer has appeared at Sony Party, Square Enix party, E3 2005, TGS 2005 and now we get a dvd. :D :O

all I want from the remake is a fully orchestraded soundrack with exact same composisions, if S-E ever releases that there'd be no need for a remake and we can move on to other things, like the Laguna and Seifer games

With all this FF7 milking and hype lately, FF7 fanboys have now replaced Nintendo fanboys as the bottom of the gaming food chain.

Just sounds like a good way to get the most out of the 2 months of effort they put into the footage, doesn't necessarily make FF7 for PS3 any more likely.

I donno about that.

FF7 fanboys just have a need to see Cloud and Sephiroth's romance reaffirmed over and over and over again, and have tin ears.

Nintendo fanboys, however, convince themselves that the future of gaming involves a TV remote and has nothing to do with the Internet (except when you can d/l roms! which everyone will want to do! Because it's Nintendo!) and are the primary people who are responsible for killing console 2D games this generation.

You're even more biased than I am.
I guess all those 2D created this gen weren't ever on the Cube or GBA.
Nope. The PSP. That's the savior of 2D gaming!

WTF? I could see your spin on everything else but now you've turned into a hilarious mockery of yourself!

You have been saying the same damn thing again and again Jive, we get it. Jeez, one FFVII is mentioned it's like a Bat symbol or something for trolling.

Nah not a Batsignal...Just FF7 fanboy jizz stains.

Some get tired of constant MGS4 threads.

Others get tired of constant Revolution speculation threads.

I personally get tired of FF7 fanboy circle jerks.

All of them gum up the boards...

You know there's this strange forum option where you don't have to click on threads that don't interest you. Try it out some time.

No, it ain't, and no handheld will ever be the savior of anything.

As I keep repeating and repeating over and over and over again, there are more 2D (even more so if 2D-only-in-gameplay titles are included) PS2 games than people care to remember or admit.

It's really quite simple; if you're like me and you want to see console 2D games, you buy console 2D games, and ignore handheld games. If successful handheld games translated to further console support, we'd see a PS2 River City Ransom or 2D Dracula. Do we? Nope. Anyone who buys handheld games wants to see console games supported less than they are now; this is ultimately how the companies view your purchases, whether or not you agree.

If you disagree more or need to bitch, pm me.

Back to how PS3 FF7 is still not officially announced.

:lol Like that ever stopped you. :lol

What does that have to do with me? You're the on whining about FF7 fanboys circle jerking. If you don't like it don't click on a FF7 thread where that's obviously going to be happening.

This still doesn't say much.

Regardless, I'm a FF7 fanboy and damn proud. If I'm at the bottom of the chain, I know I have millions of others there with me :D :D :D

for fun Square should pack in that playable SIGGRAPH FFVI demo in with a game. Even though it's like 10 years old I'd still love to give it a whirl. :)

Yes, because technical demos always become games...

Dude they have showed the demo at all major events since E3, what does that tell you? With the FF8 demo they only showed it when the PS2 was unveiled. We all know that the development for the FF next engine is well underway but there is no reason to show the FF7 tech demo over and over again if its just at tech demo.

Hey FF7 fans, I got a secret for you. FF7 wasn't that great.
It was great for its time xtard.

why? It's an interesting little piece if video game history. I feel the same way about Resident Evil 1.5 (the game that was scrapped and reworked into RE2) and now RE 3.5 (which, again, was killed various times). Mostly just out of curiousity, but I love things like that. :D

xtard? I'm a more of a sony fan. It was GOOD for it's time. I enjoyed it when it came out. But it was a step back in quality from FF6 (which was great).

Kitase confirmed his team will begin working on next generation games, but the hardware platform(s) had yet to be decided. However at the same time he confirmed that he will work on the previously announced PlayStation 3 installment of the Final Fantasy series. No concrete plans have been made so far, as he was just beginning to understand what could be done with the next-generation consoles. Since the quality of the games will increase, development cycles will inevitably become longer as well.

Tetsuya Nomura for his part explained that once the development of Kingdom Hearts II was completed, he would move on to a new project. He ruled out that this new project would be a remake of Final Fantasy VII, and simply put he would not work on a remake or sequel.

Ouch...

Final Fantasy 6 sucks! How can people tolerate those hideous graphics? Bleh!!1.

Well the gameplay and storyline for one thing. That's Final Fantasy's most enduring trait, the presenation of it's grand epic adventure and combat.

FFVI was one of the best looking 16-bit games (and arguably still is) to this day. It was the first SNES game to use all 256 colors, which is laughable now, but 11 years ago that was pretty impressive.
It was also the beginning of more complex FF stories (thanks to Kitase's first major influence on the series)- subjects such as genetic engineering, suicide, imperial genocide, and apocalypse, just to name a few.

Even though I don't feel that FFVI is 'overall' the best, I do think a lot of people really discredit it's importance to modern RPGs. Even though FFVII is far more popular and ultimately did more for the genre worldwide, FFVI really lead the way regarding making darker and more mature storylines acceptable in console RPGs.

I tried to play it on a PC emulator but I couldn't stand the graphics. I hate 2d :(

Wow, some people in here are gonna hunt you down and skin you alive for that remark :lol
