"More Japanese 360 games on the way

Microsoft prepares for July announcement - Shenmue 3 expected

Microsoft Japan is gearing up for another wave of announcements, designed to complement the eastern talent already secured for Xbox 360 game development.

The announcements will be made during a Japanese Xbox 360 event in July, with one Microsoft representative quoted as saying the information would contain a few "surprises", reported Japanese games magazine Famitsu.

But what might these be exactly?

Along with an expected naming of new third-party publishers, popular speculation points to a third instalment in the Shenmue series.

Currently, the episodic story of Ryo Hazuki's quest to hunt out his father's murderer - which started on Sega's Dreamcast in 2000 - is hanging in limbo, with fans desperate for a conclusion."

Id rather see it on PS3 so it could actually get some sales.

Agreed, but at this point I'd be ecstatic just to see another installment (or final installment). Please let this turn out to be true...

This or Phantasy Star Online(either the PS2 port or a new one) would make my day.

Panzer Dragoon Saga 2, Ninja Gaiden, a traditional style RPG from Square or Shining Force would all fit nicely into what I desperatelly want to see for the 360 come out of Japan.

Please let them shut up. I hate starting to hope again, and again, and again. So now I don't want to believe anymore.

Weren't these rumors just started because of the Gargoyle Mechanics deal and their obscure past relation to the Shenmue series?

shenmue is dead!

does sega or any console manufacturer really believe, that the third installment in the series, would sell millions of copies? no mainstream gamer cared about the first two games and now there are years between them. come on, does i have to watch 3 hours of video before i get in the story of shenmue 3? i dont think there will be a shenmue game with the story continues from the past games...

Best case scenario:
If Sega still has the DC emulator they worked on, and if Shenmue works with it Microsoft should fund the development of Shenmue 3(just finish up the series), make X-Box shenmue2 BC compatible and release a Shenmue Series CD featuring Shenmue 1, 2, and 3. Completing the series in 3 all on 3 or 4 DVDs.

Worst case scenario:
Every time a new system launches or Suzuki Yu's name is mentioned in any press release we will get teased with the prospect of a new game being released.

Merge Shenmue 1, 2 and 3 into a super Shenmue with updated graphics for whatever nextgen system :)

Updating 1 and 2 with anything other than what's provided by their emulators probably isnt happening, however just providing them along with a nice conclusion to the series with next-gen gfx seems like it' d be a the only thing to do if the series is ever to be completed. Time is running out for the series to be completed... I'm not getting my hopes up though.

They should have just [properly] ended the saga with Shenmue 2 when they [should have] realized that Shenmue would never be the big seller it would need to be to play out the original scope. I hate being left to hope for years on end for an extremely unlikely conclusion.

I´ll even buy a Atari 2600 for Shenmue 3 .

Btw , what´s the point of this rumor . Just that MS is gonna announce some games ?

I wish that MGS will fund Digital Rex with 3 or 4 money hats

Move to China to get your Shenmue fix, when Shenmue Online hits! Developed by South Koreans for the Chinese...I didn't know Shenmue had much of a market in either of those countries.

Please be true...

I don't care anymore if the final chapter of the series will be a game, a CG movie or a book, I just need to know what happen after Shenmue II.

there is actually a shred of hope. think about it. if Bill Gates actually plays an xbox and has played shenmue and loved it, maybe he has thrown digital rex a few money hats for his own personal pleasure. :lol

Even if it does happen I'm still not getting a 360. Sega pulled this crap last-gen and left me with a one-hit wonderbox... -_-;

I sincerely hope you're not talking about the XBox.... For your sake. :lol

woot! I'm back baby.

They should rename this badboy to something like "Pheonix Rising: Shenmue III" because Shenmue is a weak name by itself.

Night night, keep you're butthole tight /chapelle

It must suck to be a diehard Sega fan. The only thing that would be worse is a retarded Nintendo fan. Oh, that's right, all 7 of them are retarded anyway. My bad. :lol :lol

*drops match and flees flame war*

I want this so bad. I will buy whatever system it is released on. They should bundle emulated versions of 1 & 2 while they're at it.

Why did Shenmue never catch on? :(

Why did Shenmue never catch on?

Because despite the (then) pretty graphics and the initially amusing battle system, most folks don't dig "museum" games that don't have any real puzzles or interesting mechanics?

Really, the series was just art direction wank for the fevered Japanphile (and/or Sega fanboy). To the average consumer, collecting various virtual Sega trinkets and driving a forklift is about as appealing as being stabbed in the genitals with a Knuckles key fob.

Amusing battle system??? It was basically VF-lite...it was great if not perfect. Also, Shenmue did catch on as that title went on to sell a million copies worldwide. Shenmue 2 would have done as well (if not better) had it been released on a system that wasn't being phased out. Shenmue 2 DC was also the MOST imported game of all time...that says something.

It was silly of MS to try and release it on the Xbox hoping for sales though.

Shenmue is not for everybody, to be sure, but there are special moments that made the series worth it...paticularily the final 4+ hours of Shenmue 2...the trek up the building to the boss fight and Guilan...just awesome. My personal favorite moment is when Ryo is just standing around listening to Shenhua sing...Anyways, to each his own..

Whatever system gets Shenmue 3 is an automatic buy for me. I don't care if I have to whore myself out nightly to old men with strange fetishes, it will be mine
