They are going to always take most of the attacks due to the simple fact Sunnis are a majority and have branches of ideologies with lots of followers who are encouraged to wipe out any non-Sunni Muslim.

Regarding Shia in Iraq: considering how they have taken most of the damage and had to go through all the crap in modern times compared to any other Shia group it's hardly surprising some bad apples popped up there.

If Iraqi Shia were US and they retaliated in the same manner the US did for less than 3000 civilians then the corresponding response would be blowing up the planet.

I agree but it's unacceptable. When you have a country like Saudi Arabia openly spreading hatred against Shias(and other non-Sunni groups) with severe fatal consequences(ie. innocent people getting murdered by the dozens), the world shouldn't stand for it.

There was a thread not too long ago about a domestic terrorist setting fire to a planned parenthood facility in the US. A mod decided to change the word terrorist to arson in the title. Not that this incident isn't terrorism, but you have to admit the word is used selectively.

Suicide bomber blowing himself up among Ismaili Shia Muslims in Saudi Arabia

Ministry: one killed after Saudi mosque blast

The Saudi interior ministry on Monday said at least one was “martyred” after a suicide bomber targeted worshipers who were exiting a mosque after finishing their prayers in the Saudi city of Najran, close to the Yemeni frontier, Al Arabiya News Channel reported.

While the ministry said one was killed, Al Arabiya News Channel reported that at least three people were killed and 19 others were wounded.

Initial reports also said the attacker targeted the worshipers inside al-Mashhad mosque in the southwestern city but the Saudi interior ministry said the incident took place at the courtyard of the mosque.

Further information about the perpetrators behind the deadly incident was not given.

This is not the first time mosques have been targeted by bombers in the kingdom.

In mid-October, five people were killed after a gunman opened fire on a Shiite Muslim meeting hall in the Eastern city of Saihat.

In August, at least 12 security officers were killed after a suicide bombing targeted a mosque used by special forces in the southern Saudi city of Abha.

Roughly half of Najran's population belongs to the Ismaili Shiite community.

The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) militant group claimed responsibility for two separate attacks which took place in May and August.

The militant group has also targeted Shiite mosques and places in other regional countries including Kuwait and Iraq in attempt to create sectarian strife.

Saudi Arabia: Three dead following gun attack and explosion at Shia Mosque in al-Ahsa

Three are dead and seven wounded at a Shia mosque in east Saudi Arabia following a gun attack that took place during Friday prayers.

The timing of the assault appears to have been planned to cause maximum casualties, occurring when the Imam Rida Mosque in Mahasen, al-Ahsa, would have been packed with worshippers.

Unnamed security sources put the death toll at three with at least seven wounded. The number of casualties was expected to rise as knowledge of the situation developed.

Mohammed al-Nimr, the brother of recently executed Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr, told Associated Press in the immediate aftermath of the attack that a number of wounded had been confirmed and ambulances and security forces had quickly rushed to the scene.

Two gunmen appear to have been involved in the attack, both wearing suicide belts. While one of the attackers was able to detonate his explosive device in an outer courtyard the other was stopped and arrested. Videos shared on social media have shown the time of singe blast as well as footage of worshippers attacking the second militant.

What was initially believed to have been an an ensuing firefight was, in fact, warning shots fired by the security services as they stopped a baying mob from attacking the captured militant.

Saudi Arabia has been plagued by a series of sectarian attacks in over the last year stoked by radical Islamic State (Isis) ideology. The country's eastern Shia governorate has been under a state of emergency since two IS attacks in 2015. At present no individual group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

In August last year the militant group claimed responsibility for a suicide bomb that killed 15. In May, a suicide bomber killed 21 and wounded 81 in the village of al-Qadeeh, again during Friday prayers.

Tensions between the Sunni and Shia communities reached breaking point earlier this month when officials executed Nimr al-Nimr. The incident also sparked a diplomatic stand-off between Iran and Saudi Arabia.
