I really want to sample some of the user-made mods out there for source and I was wondering if there's any consensus on which are the "better" made ones, and mainly those that are single-player.

The one I've been waiting for is of course the complete total conversion of the original Half Life to Source by the "Black Mesa" mod team, but perhaps there's already some decent exciting mods out there already?

Minerva Episode one was pretty good, and episode two dropped yesterday (gotta download that). Good level design that fits right in with the actual HL2 game.

I've heard Combine Destiny is okay too.

I also keep a lookout for SP mods, but all the teams are copping out and going MP to avoid doing the work. most HL2 mods are very buggy and barely playable. http://www.empiresmod.com released recently. you can test out all the vehicles, etc on an offline server and they said thet would implement bots "sometime".

Chapter 2 of Minerva is fantastic.

Another one called Causality Effect is also good, but there's some absolutely crazy load times for some reason.
