Any idea what could be wrong with my vision?

And yes, I will be making an appointment with an eye doctor as soon as is convenient, but since it's an issue I can work around and that my next two weeks are packed with very important business of several sorts, I'm going to see if I can't put it off until the second half of the month.

Basically, when I'm out driving at night, the headlights of cars have started to blind me really badly. It's like everyone has got their super high beams on at all times. Depending on the type/color of light, I will see trails (normally on red tail lights) or a prismatic rainbow effect (normally on white headlights). The blinding appears to be related to the contrast of the light and the darkness of the road in front of me.

It's not so bad that I can't drive, but it's somewhat worrying. I already drive like I am trying to kill children or myself, so this could get ugly fast. Is this an age thing? Have I been experiencing some sort of LSD or ecstacy flashback, and if so how can I profit of it?

At first, I thought it might be because of the heroic amount of ibuprofen I had been consuming the past several months, but once I stopped, there was no change. Wikipedia indicated that ibuprofen can cause photosensitivity, but things did not improve when I stopped.

IIRC, when something like that affects you, you have to wait a few months for it to go away.

I get weird shit now at night myself.. But it only started after I was wearing glasses for like 1 year +, the glasses don't help it either. Lights everywhere just pull and stretch, I can't even stand to watch TV in the dark anymore before of it. :(

I assume you would have mentioned if you had LASIK recently. Those symptoms are possible side effects and both happened to me.

Just to be clear, you aren't seeing halos around lights are you? That is a symptom of increased ocular pressure and should be considered an emergency.

Have you taken any other medications? Specifically, any antibiotics such as Minocycline? Those can all cause sensitivity to light that takes anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to go away.

Could be a form of night myopia. Does it occur at all distances?

I'm of the opinion that, as they get older, people with generally wonky vision just get generally.. wonkier. If I'm on a small road at night where cars in other lane come really close, I get the same blindess from their headlights, especially people with those god damned blue ones they probably think are so cool. I slow waaaay the fuck down in anticipation of someone about to pass me, and it just seems to get worse all the time.

On that note, I also get this extremely bright silver spot that flashes once in my left eye, and a blue one in my right eye, happens every couple of days. Also, if I look at the daytime sky, it's full of weird flashes and motions that make me dizzy. Luckily, I'm not a hypochondriac so I just sort of ignore them.

Yeah, that's what I was told in a previous thread, weird to just develop it when I was 18 though I thought. Also, I'm not sure about all distances actually, never paid that much attention to it. :[ I just know it aggravates me and makes me angry at night.. Lol..

Ok yeah ... those should definitely be checked out. Soon. Like, now.

I would go to a normal eye doctor that gives you glasses prescriptions. Then they will get you into a specialist if need be quickly if it could be serious. There are retina specialists, neurology, etc.

Searching on google can direct you to forums and websites detailing vision problems. But if you see a possible problem that would need surgery you'll get freaked out if your anything like me. And you'll also see things that make you think it's nothing to worry about. But in the end, you just don't know. (Side note: If It's HPPD stress from worrying about your vision can make symptoms worse.)

Also, getting initial appointments can take a while and you might get sent to different specialists or for tests. So if you wait a few weeks it might be a month or two and it'll be on the back of your mind. Make sure you let them know it's an emergency and not a general near or far sided vision test.

Dude, don't wait two weeks. This is your health. I'm no doctor (well, not that kind), but failing vision can be a symptom of other things. Seek professional help.

Congratulations, you probably have glaucoma. I have the same problems, so I went to an eye doctor and found out I only have 30% optic nerve left. Here's the kicker, I'm only 28, people my age usually don't get glaucoma. The good news is, I passed my Field of Vision test with a 100%, so I caught it in time. I'm about to go see a specialist to make sure I wasn't just born this way (which is another possibility).

are you sure about this? i had all kinds of weird issues with lights, including halos, for a couple of years and my optometrist at the time (who was ridiculously good) didn't seem to think it was that big a deal.

also i think it's entirely possible that i'm stalking you whitey

does it also feel like you have this glassy presence over your eyes?

This is what I plan on doing. The thing is, I went to get new glasses in July of last year, and I had my eye doctor do the full load of tests since I had not seen an eye doctor in about 5 years. He specifically said that my eyes are in above average condition considering my age. He could have been blowing smoke up my ass to make me feel good or something, but the sentiment stuck in my head.

It's really not an option, or else I would go sooner. Until the 16th, I'm doing some of the most urgent and important work I've had since 2006, and it's all tied to a deadline on the 16th.

Also, no halos. It's more like the crossy glare effect you sometimes get in photos. And when on ecstacy.

I also do not wear contacts, just glasses.

My sleeping habits are incredibly inconsistent and rather unpredictable. I've had pretty severe sleeping/insomnia issues since I was a wee tot, but they have not been particularly worse as of late, nor have the issues been happening when I was tired or anything of the like.

No feeling of glassy presence, either.

Thanks for the responses, folks. I appreciate them

You're finally paying the price for living off tuna for months on end.

If it wasn't you that lived on tuna and subsequently got mercury poisoning, it appears I'm paying the price for breathing antifreeze fumes several years ago.
