i got accept to DIGIPEN but was worry abit about, if it is worth going all the way from east to west. any suggestion??? anybody else who is currently attending a college with video game major please say anything

The question ultimately comes down to how sure you are about working in the game industry. As recent threads about the EA wife and similar working conditions with other companies, the game industry will require hard work, long hours, and comparative low pay compared to other computer science fields. Digipen has a good track record of getting its graduates hired into the game companies, but be warned as it will limit the number of other fields you can get into if you change your mind later on.

If you are the slightest bit unsure about working with games in the long-term future, I would recommend attending a university and majoring in computer science instead. Many universities offer courses related to game development and design, so you'll still be exposed to these things. The university setting will also expose you to a wider range of topics which will be beneficial to you outside of games.

Are you a loyal Nintendo fan?

I do know that video game companies and movie studios that do cinema graphics hire from schools with this specialization. I've heard good things about the schools like USC... They sometimes get heads of game studios to give lectures...

We recently gave a lecture on game piracy at George Mason University in Fairfax. Quite interesting, the response from the students on abandonware. :lol

I'm currently in the "Video Game Design" program at the International Academy Of Design in Toronto. I put the name in quotes because the course is pretty much a joke. If you live in the Toronto area, no doubt you've seen the commercial for this school a million times. It's too bad that they don't spend as much money actually hiring good teachers and getting half-decent equipment as they do on the advertisments.
Anyways, I'm dropping out of the program at the end of this term (3 weeks from now) after sticking with it since April, and I'm heading to Seneca in January. Oh yeah, so is over half of my class as well...that's how shitty it is.
I figure why waste $30,000 on a school that teaches you either nothing worthwhile (half of the courses) or the bare basics of a bunch of subjects you have no interest in. There's no possible way I'd have the knowledge to get a job once I graduated, so what's the point of throwing all that money away.
Anyways, sorry for going out on a rant, you can tell how disapointed I am with this "school". As far as other school's, DigiPen is great if you're extremely dedicated, but as previously stated, you might be better off with a degree in CS from another school.
