Any other E-Reader fans on Gaf?

I love my kindle, but my usage doesn't correlate with my love for it, for whatever reason.

I picked up a kobo Clara had recently, upgrading from a book glow light and I'm impressed what it is for $90 but I sitll feel like PPI is lacking and the whole industry seems to be stuck there.

Built in overdrive is a game changer though. I haven't had to buy a book since I've gotten it.

I just typed up a reply talking about which games I had until I realized this was in Off Topic and nobody else was talking about scanning in cards for Animal Crossing on Gamecube.

I think they are neat, I just prefer hard copies because I'm a grumpy old man. They have come an incredibly long way since 2010.

I love my Kindle Paperwhite - I’d love a colour A4 Kindle for magazines.

My laptop is a 2 in 1. When I read mango I just flip it so I use it as a e-reader. FUCK SAMSUNG though.

Absolutely. I've been hooked on Kindles since the 2nd generation. They suck for everything but linear books/novels, but they certainly excel at those!

Currently using a Kindle Oasis and I love it. Feels like they finally got the ergonomics right.

I was never really a reader but I'm trying to get into it, mostly Stephen King and I'm actually very excited for Ready Player 2. Got a 2018 Kindle Paperwhite in May. So far I've only read 1.5 books on it. It would be a lot easier to read if it weren't for the fact that video games are amazing. Anyways, I love the device itself. My only complaint is that in dark mode, the light can't be turned completely off like it can in the default mode.

Love my Kindle Voyage I just can’t concentrate if I try to read on my iPad with all the damn notifications and alerts so dedicated e-reader is the only way to fly for me. I’ll still bust out the kindle iOS app from time to time thigh if I’m bored waiting for my wife shopping...oh wait that hasn’t happened in like 6 months #Covid.

This is mine, btw. Sharing that would probably work better in a thread that wasn't 90% paper advocates, but you work with what you have. :messenger_tears_of_joy: (Really cool convo, too)

It's probably not long before I go full Gollum over it. Hoping to get a nice leather cover for it as well.

I may despise 2020 cuturally, but if the tech isn't completely awesome.

How do you like the Oasis? I've been using eReaders basically since first gen and still have my old keyboard based kindle. I'm using a Kobo Clara right now that I shifted to for warm lightning because I mainly read at night. The Oasis looks like a really nice unit and I tend to gradually work towards premium tech for things that I frequently use, but it feels hard to justify the cost. At $329 CAD I'm stuck waiting for a decent sale

Could you expand on that?

Screen refresh rate on e-ink is too slow and the devices in general are just a bit too sluggish to make jumping around a book really feasible. An iPad or similar proper tablet is much better for things like that.

Rocking a Paper White. Not the latest version (a couple back now?) and I still have a customised Kindle Keyboard from back in the day. Aside from the lack of touch and lighting I liked the Keyboard because it did audio as well.

I absolutely adore it. I come from a different perspective, though. I started with the budget Kindle (no light), worked up to the original smol Oasis, then got this bigger version with the amazing cold/warm backlighting.

At every step of the way, I've had big new, gamechanging features that felt worth that price. It sounds like your Kobo already has the warm lighting, and I've no idea on the screen size.

I will say that the design is absolutely awesome. I love, love, love how thin and light it is, and how the 'bulk' of the device is all shifted to a narrow part on the side, perfect for one-handed, casual reading. The covers, at least on my old Oasis, as I haven't gotten one for this yet, also feel fantastically implemented, and like part of the unit itself.

If you have most of the features already though, from buttons to warm lighting to 300 PPI to waterproofing, it's a little hard to make that recommendation for the price. It is fantastic feeling and looking hardware, though.

The Amazon leather cover for my new Oasis came in today. I tried a billion times to take a decent shot, but it kept showing up weird, so... professional one, lol.

It looks amazing. I'm not a fan of the Oasis just docking into a hard plastic holder, nor seeing a little bit of cheap plastic in a $70 purchase, rather than the pure magnetism of the previous Oasis' cover.

But. It is so awesome. The design of the Oasis, with or without cover, is absolutely fantastic.
