Any reason the thread about wether Sony won or lost from their opposition to the ABK aquisition got locked?

Console war shit. More threads should get locked.
How is that a console war? Jesus Christ, if that's the line then half the threads on here would be shut down.
It's a legitimate question about a factual thing that happened during the aquisition.
There nothing to with which console is better, or which company is better, or which exclusives are better, it about a strategic approach taken by a company and asking if it paid off or not is a reasonable question.

Because the thread developed into that. You just cannot have a normal discussion about that whole topic. People gonna turn that into a fight. It is what it is.

Then there is no point in bothering to talk about anything about the consoles then, because there is always going to be comparisons about them. If a post asks "who has the better exclusive line up this year, Playstation or Xbox", it's going to get locked? Or if a post talks about any exclusive game really it could be locked just in case.
Mods should just delete posts that cross the line, not just lock a thread.

Thread won't get locked if people don't start behaving like teenagers. So it's up to the posters.

I honestly can't see a reason why that thread was locked; it was a dedicated space for people to feed their speculations, and would have made for some very interesting dialogue.

I had finished writing a comment in that thread, hit post and was surprised to see it locked. I suspect this one may get locked too.

Regardless, I'll quote what I had initially written:-

"It's hard to say whether it harmed or helped them. There's a logistics side to this and a metrics side to this, where we can objectively determine if certain outcomes harmed or helped. However, there's really no telling what the future holds... There's a possibility that this deal might actually harm Microsoft, in ways we can't even foresee yet; that's the beauty of life. Not everything that we've planned for results in the outcome we planned on having.

Back to the objective observations:-
Sony got a deal of lesser value than Nintendo, and some others. The initial deal offered to them, was the same deal offered to Nintendo. Objectively, they'd be better off with the original deal. This new deal doesn't offer with it, the same benefits the previous deal did. That's a loss for them, and it's solely due to their actions, in trying to stop the deal.

Have their actions hurt (some of) their relationships? I don't know. Maybe it has, maybe it hasn't. Only Jim and the other parties will know this. However, at the end of the day, business is business and not all of these people are actual friends (in the conventional sense of the word). While corporations can play up certain roles of friendliness, and while people can still hold grudges, they still have obligations to their shareholders and the board; profit, growth. If any decision results in more profit or growth, then you can bet that's the decision these companies will make, whether that be going to bed with their "enemy", pandering to consumers or making "allies". What I'm trying to say is, the quality of these relationships are defined by the profitability of these relationships.

There's an irony here that, their position as market leaders saw this deal through. If Sony were the ones buying Actiblizzard, they'd have less success of this deal going through than MS did, because they're already so strong in the gaming space. I guess there really are pros and cons to everything...even cons to being the top dog.

Lastly, although some here know my position on this acquisition and that I was rooting for Microsoft, that is for two reasons only: The benefits I'd receive as Xbox gamer, primarily (I do own a PS5), and 2ndly, because I think it will shake up the industry and promote even more competition (from all parties), which is better for us, the gamers/consumers. That said, I have no problem with Jim Ryan or what he tried to do. I honestly don't. I respect Jim for doing what he thought was needed, to protect his brand, his company and their dominance. I would expect no less of anyone else. I don't hold Phil on any pedestal, nor do I hold Jim. These people are just people, doing what they think is best (at any given moment) for their business and their customers. Sometimes they make the wrong moves, sometimes they make the right moves. But, for the most part, they always act with the intention to protect their interests (profitability and customer satisfaction). They won't always get it right. I think Jim is a strong leader who has made brilliant plays this generation, and he knows what direction this industry is heading (largely due to MS's interests and strategies) and he definitely doesn't want to be in last place there. He sees the change happening, and he's moving swiftly to keep up with it. Putting games on PC, bolstering their subscription offerings and buying a platform agnostic publisher/developer are huge indications of this - all being a first for PS. Jim Ryan is no fool; I respect and tip my hat to the man."

I'm not sure where else to ask this, but the thread got locked and there was no feedback as to why? All the posts were in good spirits.

some people couldn’t cope with news like adults and the thread turned quite quickly into war. This is about both sides.

This is stupid. THIS is what this forum is all about. You can’t discuss just games separated from anything.
Clean, surgical conversation is boring.

Of course people will have sides and opinions as they should!!!
Imo closing a thread equals defending Microsoft and they certainly deserve getting looked at and critiqued. They are the least side to play clean lol.

And how can you ask people on a forum about games and platforms, to not have favourites?! Wtf. We are fucking human lol

I agree with this, for the most part. I think threads being locked should be a rarity. Give people warnings...maybe even ban some people, if warnings don't work. But locking a thread should be the last resort. I didn't read everything in the other thread, to see what it turned into (outside of the first few posts), but I'm really not surprised it turned into fanboy warring.

I think even a little playful trolling is fine, granted people don't start insulting, berating or belittling each other. Or, attacking the person instead of the argument. Debate is fine. Arguments are fine. Expounding on a point is fine. Defending a point is fine. A harmless joke, here and there is fine. Outright warring, insults, moving goal posts, dismissive attitudes and disrespect though; not fine.

Did Microsoft win or lose from their successful acquisition of Arkane?
As of right now; they're losing lol. Arkane is yet to put out something truly captivating. Death Loop is, in my opinion, overrated. I guess, having their catalogue on GamePass is a plus for Xbox gamers (and by extension MS), but all in all, Arkane specifically is yet to prove their worth. They can redeem themselves though.

Missed the point. I am not advocating for no discussion and no debate. I am pointing out that there is no reasonable discussion to be had because it ends up in ad hominems and general shit flinging. If people can control themselves while discussing shit, then by all means, please, discuss away. It's just that most people can't or don't want to. That's at least what I have seen, especially in the threads that were spawned out of the whole Microsoft vs. FTC vs. Sony vs. CMA nothingburger.

Of course people prefer one thing over another but fanboys go further and it’s not normal discussions but more like an obsession. I ignore all threads about the ABK acquisition here because to me that whole mess has ruined so many good talks, it’s like listening to kids fight over toys and I get enough of that at home but at home they at least become friends eventually and can play together and share the toys.

I bet console fanboys would prefer if the other side pulled out of consoles all together and left their favorite in a monopoly situation. It has never been about competition. It’s about winning. Doesn’t matter if the other side actually bring good things to the hobby. People have picked a side and the other side needs to lose. And that noise infects other threads as well, it’s a serious problem. I settled at using the ignore function, makes the board less active but better.

Asking the question is like watching someone buy a sandwich and then asking them if the sandwich was tasty before they've taken a bite.

Besides, it could have just gone in the megathread

You have to ask that if it's a subway sandwich. The answer to that is always NOT SURE.

Thanks for actually answering with a good response, but I was just trying to ask a similar question to OP to show that it’s just baiting people. I guess I failed on that one :messenger_loudly_crying:
