Any reason the thread about wether Sony won or lost from their opposition to the ABK aquisition got locked?

I hope that NeoGAF doesn't become one of these boring boomer forums where fun and exciting discussion is no longer allowed.

The problem with an aging population of users is that old people hate fun and they are more conservative in their views.

So they would rather lock and shut down discussion because for them "they are too old for this shit".

I hope that EviLore looks at these threads being locked and sees that not everyone wants to have boring conversations where you can't properly argue and have fun.

Why not just DM a mod or use the contact feature down below if it's that serious? Why even make this thread?

There’s an active mega thread where you can talk about it.

Isn’t it a stupid question anyway? MS was offering Sony a four year deal for COD that turned into a ten year deal. Is anybody with a brain spinning it into an even worse outcome for Sony? So the more years Sony extracted out of COD, the worse it got for them? What

Thanks for actually answering with a good response, but I was just trying to ask a similar question to OP to show that it’s just baiting people. I guess I failed on that one :messenger_loudly_crying:
The initial thread idea was actually a good one, and would have made for some interesting conversation/speculation. In and of itself, it wasn't baiting. I think you're projecting. Not everyone has ill-intent or some ulterior motive; some interests/questions can be genuine.

A big problem I see on Gaf, is that people believe everyone is just like them, or many people just aren't sincere/honest about their views or why they're here. Too many people put their egos before constructive or progressive conversation. If people come into a thread with the purpose of having progressive dialogue, and don't view their own opinions as higher-than-thou, many threads might actually reach somewhere.

Actually, no. If you were to try to have that discussion in that mega-thread, you would only have three likely outcomes:-

1- It would turn into a flame war, and Pro-Sony supporters would pile on you.

2 - The thread would break down.

3 - You'd be warned or banned for derailing the thread, or "baiting", or "instigating console warring".

So, what's the next alternative? Maybe a dedicated thread where people can discuss just that alone? Nope; thread gets locked. No conversation allowed.

We're very mature and progressive here, at Gaf.

MetroUK is continuing their ridiculous habit of presenting editorial views disguised as «reader’s» opinions.

Heres what MetroUK thinks Sony should do:

A reader has some suggestions about how Sony should respond to the Activision Blizzardacquisition and get people excited about PS5again.

So it’s all but confirmed that Microsoft has won its battle to buy Activision Blizzard and nothing is going to be quite the same in gaming again. I know some people try to downplay this, because they don’t want to deal with the fact that things are going to change, but you don’t pay $69 billion for the world’s biggest third party publisher and not expect a bit of a upheaval.

Nintendo won’t care but obviously all eyes are on Sony. They weren’t the ones opposing Microsoft in court, but they might as well have been given what was said and who it was affecting. Sony obviously understands the danger that Microsoft now poses to them and have given their all to try and block the deal. But now that they’ve failed what do they do next?
A lot of fans are calling for a new showcase and new game announcements and I agree that would be the crowd-pleasing option. I really can’t see it though. How is it going to look if they make it obvious they were keeping all this back until the acquisition question was settled? I’m not even sure that is what they’ve been doing. They’ve been acting so odd this year that I just can’t work them out at all.
What I would do, if I was in charge, is set up a regular schedule of mini-showcases from now till Christmas. Make them 10 minutes or so and focus on a different game or topic each time. Announce new titles – whatever the reason for keeping them secret they must have several they haven’t revealed yet – but also give updates on PS Plus (especially Premium) and PlayStation VR2.

I have no idea how people that bought either of those two things are feeling right now but I bet they’re not happy. Astro Bot: Rescue Mission 2 has to happen straight away, at the very least, and I can’t begin to imagine why it hasn’t been talked about yet.

Then they have to start showing us these live service games that they keep going on about. They must know that many people are not excited about them, and resent the money and effort being spent on them, so for heaven’s sake just show them and try to convince people that they’re worth getting excited about. Who knows, maybe they’re actually good, but we’ve no way of knowing until they actually show them.

These aren’t exactly radical ideas and yet I feel they need to be spelt out. Especially as there are a number of things I think I can reliably say nobody wants to hear about. For a start, no PS5 Pro talk. No one has the money and there’s no need for it given how few exclusives there’s been so far. I say this because I have a horrible feeling it’s going to be one of the first things they do open up about.

And no going on about that stupid Project Q handheld. No one cares and no one has the money. They’re definitely going to have a showcase on that because it’s out soon but, really… I can’t think of anything less important at the moment. At this rate they’re going to have more new hardware announced than new games, especially if the PS5 Slim rumours are accurate.

Sony need to get a grip of themselves and they need to do it now. If they’re still floundering about, acting all secretive in another three months’ time people are going to be thinking very differently about what new console they want for Christmas. And if it’s not a PlayStation 5 then Sony has only got themselves to blame.

I disagree that it’s a good concept or that it could invoke interesting discussion.

Sony opposed the deal after seeing a 3 year offer. They’ve ended up with a 10 year offer.

Anything else is just bluster.

Console warring, baiting, provoking, derailing, concern trolling and what else those stupid fanboys do all the time is not fun for everybody I think i almost got around 100 threads on ignore and no, i'm not a boomer.

I would rather users get warnings or thread banned instead of simply locking a thread.

We need to understand that here at GAF users have different opinions about things and we can't just shut down the conversation because you interpret any console specific posts as "Console warring, baiting, provoking, derailing, concern trolling ".

If you don't want to engage in the thread then simply keep ignoring and move on.

Cmon that guy just continued to accuse me of shit, and when I responded factually with a written response all said user did was post annoying gifs. Fuck that guy. Im there for a discussion not for snarky responses. Im fine with being banned if I'm the asshole but I felt that guy wasnt even discussing anything in good faith, just wanted to comeback with snarky gifs.
