Any reason to have Steam other than HL2?

My computer is in no way ready for Half-Life 2, so I'm wondering if there's any value to Steam. I seem to recall Counterstrike and HL1 previously being available for it, but I have no idea if that's the case any more.

So, the question is the subject line... any reason to DL steam, or would it just be a huge waste of bandwidth?

It only exists for Half-Life 1 (and its mods such as Counter-Strike) and Half-Life 2 at this point. If you own neither of these games there is no reason to get it.
