Anybody else listens to the radio?

As a kid, the radio was a cool novelty (especially having one in my room) but when my family got a computer and internet I went there for my music needs. Even when I got my first vehicle in college, I scoffed at the idea of a radio and just used a cassette aux cord and played music from my phone.

Now as an adult, I listen to the radio everyday. I don't know what it is, but it just seems so much more entertaining now. I listen to The Breakfast Club with Charlemagne the God on my way to work, Michael Baisden Show in the afternoon and the Quiet Storm with Freddy Cruz in the evening. Also found a ton of music I never heard before that is dope. I'm so much more invested in the actual conversation and dialogue that takes place now.

Still hate how long the commercials last though, anybody else listen to the radio daily? Why?

I listen to NPR pretty much all day every day. We have a local classical music program that's awesome, and I love listening to the more entertainment-focused stuff on the weekend.

Not since all the good oldies stations went the way of the dodo

I do (well most likely did) once a year on Christmas Eve/Day because you get all thesse crazy old songs and radio spots and plays... well used to the station seemed last year to just copy the broadcast of one of their much lamer sister FM stations.

I'll turn on NPR sometimes, and will occasionally tune in to Preston & Steve on WMMR. Usually I just listen to podcasts, though.

NPR for Morning Edition/All Things Considered and then local indie station when those aren't on.

Only really stream in my car for longer drives.

I work in radio. I'm on a morning show and then have my own shift during mid-days. Outside of that I do commercial production for the rest of my day. They also let me talk about video games on their talk station for two hours every Saturday.

Judging from contests we do, facebook followers and the like there's PLENTY of people who still listen to the radio.

When 1 Direction started taking over the world and then Radio 1's Chris Moyles left the Bbreakfast show, my listening of the radio took a massive cliff dive.

I can't stand anyone on anymore.

Yes. I listen to NPR, BBC Radio4, the BBC World Service, Radio 6 and other random things.

It’s the last refuge of proper debate, discussion and in depth analysis, that isn’t plagued by the visual style over substance approach of tv or the attention grabbing clickbait shreiky bias of websites.

Sometimes when I'm in the car. Between constant commercials and shit playlists there's very little worth listening to.

I sometimes listen to BBC6 stuff through their online player if that counts.

Sports radio when I drive is about it. Not sure how radio survives these days with the tons of commercial free options out there.

I listen to npr occasionally, or when I'm running behind and can't be assed to set up a podcast playlist.

Other than that not at all.

I listen to 6 Music quite often, particularly for Gilles Peterson's weekly show. I quite like Smooth and Absolute Classic Rock for the old jams too.

In the car, yes,I listen to CHOM FM but rarely at home...when I listen to music at home,it's my Spotify playlists or the whats new and what not stuff.

I listen to a volunteer/donation driven station that plays some really different music and new releases which has helped me discover a lot of new stuff. Couldn't stand another second of top 40 or classic rock 80s stations which play the same songs over and over again. I had an oldies station that went far enough back that the songs were actually different but I started losing the signal for some reason and felt their song selection had started to age up into standard classic hits 80s shit.

95.7 is how I get to work and back. I love the station! It actually plays good rock/metal music (and also lots of the typical radio friendly stuff too, but I generally like it), and the hosts are all consistently funny/interesting.

Plus the station does a ton of cool things for the community, so that's always fun to hear about.

Sounds like we have the exact same job for the most part. Once there is a good contest/giveaway going on you'd think there were a thousand people listening at one given time.

I listen to talksport (UK) in the car but that's the only time

There were a few things on Radio 1 (Fabio & Grooverider, Mary Anne Hobbs, Giles Peterson) I used to listen to online but that was a good few years back

Like a lot of others, I usually listen to NPR when I'm in the car. Otherwise, I listen to podcasts and SiriusXM when I'm at work.

I really prefer the format of SiriusXM or even radio that have actual DJs to talk about music and artists, and expose me to new things I might never have otherwise listened to. I feel like I discover many more artists and bands that way.

The six I'll switch between in my car in Boston:
1. WCRB - Classical music
2. WERS - Emerson College radio, good variety of music, one-off commercials
3. WXRV - The River, independent radio, also good variety of music
4. ALT 92.9 - Typical big company rock station, for when you want to hear Green Day for the 1000th time. Used to be my alarm clock station but they switched to shitty talk in the morning. I don't care to wake up to fart jokes.
5. WGBH - NPR Station #1
6. WBUR - NPR Station #2 (Yay Boston for having 2 NPRs)

Rest of the presets are whatever else the auto-scan picked up.

At work I listen to Spotify, on road trips we'll prep music ahead of time or just scan the airwaves for the local NPR

All the time when I'm driving, DAB (digital) radio so plenty of choice. Sometimes on the Amazon Echos at home.

When 1 Direction started taking over the world and then Radio 1's Chris Moyles left the Bbreakfast show, my listening of the radio took a massive cliff dive.
He's on the Radio X breakfast show now, still makes me laugh.

NPR in the morning, sometimes
Local sports radio in the afternoon, most workdays
My favorite podcasts, morning and afternoon
Amazon music downloads, morning and afternoon
NES music app, any time I get the urge

That's my car routine that I switch back and forth on.

Two cannibals are eating a clown. One turns to the other and says "does something taste funny to you?"
Still listen to Jim Rome on the way into work. Don't even watch sports anymore.

The Ed Lover Show with Monie Love in the morning baby. And then around the house on weekdays I usually have the Echo Dot playing the Dan Patrick show off TuneIn or IHeartRadio live.

They're always playing ads on the radio saying how radio is a bigger market than TV, social media, etc. I heard a stat that like 95% of Americans catch some portion of a radio broadcast every single day.

Depends. Where I live, there is only one English station, and its usually bombarded with One Direction and other pop song requests. So at the moment, not really.

Thank God for Spotify.

I listen to the radio in the morning cause I drive my wife to work (she doesn't like any of my music), on the way home I force her to listen to the bombcast.

I still enjoy listening to the radio but these days it's primarily NPR and sports. I love music podcasts that are formatted like I'm listening to a college radio station.

I mostly listen to the radio whenever I am driving with time to time exception of streaming music/podcast every once in a while. Commercials don't bother me but I work in marketing so I find them interesting. I can't remember the last time I listened to the radio outside of my car.
