Anybody else listens to the radio?

Basically just NPR and classical stations. Everything else is loud and shill and like 50% ads, and radio ads are even more obnoxious than tv ads

NPR member station WNYC through my laptop for a bunch of shows including The Brian Lehrer Show among others; WKCR FM once in a while which is Columbia University's volunteer operated radio station for a huge diversity of music including jazz, Brazilian music, hip hop late at night, and talk shows; sometimes random Latin music stations that play top 50 stuff or rock. I wish The Luis Jimenez Show was available as a podcast because I could listen to that man and his crew talk all day. Edit: It turns out that it is! Will subscribe.

I listen to out local NPR station, but that's about it. Use to listed to 97X (actual indie radio station) in Cincinnati until that was shut down and turned into a Spanish radio station, though that was ages ago. Recently I would listen to WNKU (college/indie station) as well, but that's also been shut down and replaced by a country station.

Radio all sounds the same when it comes to music. For music, I usually go with satellite.

I only listen when I am in the shower.

Around year 2001, watching an Simpsons episode made me want an shower radio. I found one online and ordered it. More then 15 years later and it is still going strong. I only listen to one very local station that doesn't even have commercials, mostly 60s tunes. They survive on donations basically

If it breaks then I will just get some wireless water-resistant solution and listen to Spotify instead. But as long as it does not give up me, I will not give on it.

But listening to regular stations with their commercials and talk talk talk. No way.

At work in the office.

But only because my co-workers are into it and I prefer it over silence.
The local stations play trashy music and we are not allowed to use internet radio.

My job is making websites for radio stations, so, you'd hope I'd like it. Radio at its best is still worth so much time and attention. There's some dross, sure, but some brilliant stuff out there. Man if you think repetition is bad when listening, imagine if you work there and it's on in your office. :p

Stuff I listen to in the UK: Moyles on Radio X is good, it's a bit of a change from the old R1 show but is still fun to listen to. Mills on Radio 1 is still funny too - teaming him up with Chris has been a fun dynamic.

For music, Absolute and the decade stations are still strong, particularly Absolute 80s, so are nice to jump between. Abs 80s is one of my go-tos. I'm also quite fond of Union JACK, a JACKfm spinoff playing user voted music, but all British songs. They drop in some bits of comedy in there too.

And comedy, Radio 4/4extra play some excellent stuff, Jon Holmes on TalkRadio is basically a parody of speech radio on a speech station.

I listen to radio in my car because it's easier to operate while driving than my phone. There aren't many good stations in my area, so I just bounce between NPR, 80's and 90's hits station, 60's and 70's hits station, and the classical music station if there is a baby in the car.

I listen to Radio 4 in the morning (although the Today show has got increasingly vapid recently). And Radio 1 if I want some music. Although all the shows that have the music I'm interested in tend to be on in the small hours of the morning, so I usually just end up listening to them on-demand instead of live.

A healthy bit of NPR. Morning Edition, All Things Considered, Car Talk repeats, Wait Wait, etc.

And I’m a big fan of A Prairie Home Companion..

BBC Radio 3, which I enjoy especially when they're playing baroque. If they start playing a Strauss waltz or a mid-twentieth century film soundtrack I switch to YouTube and select something I like. The radio constantly introduces material I haven't heard before, without trying to second guess my tastes. This means I don't feel boxed in.

We have some pretty good and a few great stations in the Terrestrial Philadelphia area. Plus I listen to a lot of sports talk. So yeah I listen to the radio often. Probably like 4-5 hours a day.

Rarely. I drive a lot for my job (field tech) and I'm always listening to podcasts or music on my iPod.

I used to listen a lot before the rise of podcasts and spotify, and the radio is worse than those in pretty much any way imaginable. The limited playlists is the main thing that gets to me though. Seems like no station I've ever listened to have a play list that is big enough where the same song isn't played 1-3 times over a work day, and that shit just gets infuriating after a while.

Back when I worked evenings there was some decent talk radio, but still nothing close to what I can get from podcasts.

Yeah most days actually we have a Bose system and that has presets which is handy for obscure internet stations we also have a digital radio in the kitchen for the more commercial stations.

I used to listen to FM radio when I first started driving in 2011. Then the stations I liked started playing music I didn't like. And then they started with a morning talk show, which I just can't stand. Then when I got my new car, I just stuck with SiriusXM because I could at least listen to music I wanted again and without the extremely long commercials.

Anytime I'm in the car I listen to local news radio. Something else I've started doing is reading the newspaper. Think I'm getting old.

Yes, mostly stations from Luxembourg or Belgium, because German radio often sucks. The only exception is Deutschlandfunk, which likes to do hour-long specials of rather unknown bands (BLK JKS for example is one band I found through them).
Belgium has Classic 21 which likes to play more unknown 60s/70s rock (they like to play Watcher of the Skies), while Luxembourg has RTL and 100,7, the latter getting really avant-garde at times.

A good amount of great stuff, and I also record some internet radio stations via Radio.fx, mainly The Current, Radio Paradise and several Soma.fm radio stations.

I subscribe to SIRIUSXM to get radio without the commercials. It's very nice sometimes to have someone explain the context behind the music that is being played.
Oh, and I do listen to NPR's Morning Edition sometimes.

I listen to it in my car, especially to & from work. Talk shows for prime drive time and rock stations when there isn't good talk on.

Also just got a new car with SiriusXM and have been loving the rock/alternative channels they have on there. Don't know if I'll keep it up after the trial, though. They sent me a renewal invoice and the prices are outrageous. Like they want more than Netflix and HBO combined, wtf?

I've been listening to WFMU for about 17 years. It's such a great source of music. In that time I rarely hear anything I've heard before.

I'll listen to NPR in the morning for actual news and then Michael Savage on the way home for the lunacy of right wing radio.

We have a pretty good Alternative station here in KC (KRBZ the Buzz). The afternoon drive time guys are funny, and they break new bands early on a pretty good track record. So I usually flip past that, and then we have a couple of great public radio stations, one NPR and one totally unaffiliated community radio station... the only syndicated thing they play is Democracy Now in the mornings. That's KKFI and they're really amazing. And even our butt rock station (KQRC) has a morning drive time guy (Johnny Dare) whose show has been in place for 20 years and has really exceptional interview skills, and should probably be syndicated or on some national show. He also does some charity events around the holidays that get so emotional, but are so great to listen to, the way he presents them. We also have a couple of pretty good sports talk stations. Oh, and another great independent listener supported station here is KTGB the Bridge. They're commercial free, and the actual format name is "adult album alternative". But they play some really great stuff, deep album cuts, and a lot of new music.

So there's actually a lot of pretty good options on the radio here in Kansas City. I have a long commute in the car, and listen to quite a bit of radio.

BBC 6 Music nearly every day.

It's good stuff, helps me concentrate on the work rather than flicking through spotify or something.

Radcliffe and Maconie are especially great.

Morning radio in LA. KROQ. Kevin and Bean (and Ralph)

That's it. Maybe if I'm in the car and there's a good classic rock station, but nothing current or pop because they don't play Carly Rae Jepson nearly enough.

I listen to NPR (WBUR and WGBH) in the car via the radio, and stream NPR while making dinner, but that's usually streaming NPR digital programs. I have local sports talk saved on the dial but rarely listen to it, only on Football Sunday mornings really, sometimes on Mondays for 10 mins or so until a commercial comes.

I listen to it while I take my kid to school in the morning and it's fucking awful. The local djs on the hard rock and alternative rock stations are garbage and Bob and Tom are fucking unbearable. As soon as my kid is out the door I throw on a podcast.

NPR. I don't have the patience to listen to shitty radio DJ's who don't even have the power to select the music they are playing.

Yes. The radio is turn on all the time at work so I listen it every single day. It's an oldies music station with some modern music too so we listen from Elvis to Adele lol. I enjoy listening to radio.

NPR.

Listen to it while driving to train, stream it while on the train. When I'm in the minivan, I like to blast thrash metal when it's just me, and the 70's channel when it's me and the fam.

Yeah, I listen to the radio whenever I'm in the car, as my car has the factory stereo, which is just am/fm and a cd player. I usually just listen to the rock stations though.

Respect for the AM love. But out of curiosity why? Is it due to frequency reception or a specific love of a station that is only on AM?

I only ask, as it is as peculiar as listening to SW or LW these days, particularly on a tech savvy forum.
