Anybody else think sony bring back resistance?

Honestly, just slapping the Resistance name on a new game doesnt guarantee it'll recapture the old magic

A modern version would need more than nostalgia, it'd need a clear vision, the right dev team, and a reason to exist beyond "Sony needs shooters"

It appears single player FPS games are a thing of the past (in the AAA world) Sony would probably try to make it a live service shooter game lol.

Right, because they need to take desperate measures to get Halo under control.
You rang?

I'm not seeing it. The franchise already struggled after the trilogy.
Killzone on the other hand had a stellar game for the Vita for example.

A Killzone 2 remake with even more stellar graphics for PS6 now that would be something. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Doubt it, and honestly I wouldn't really care.

The only memorable thing from Resistance was the unique weapons. I'd actually prefer if Insomniac just ported those weapons or made new weird ones in a new IP with a better art style and story.

I gotta get around to playing Killzone 2.
Please do. I regard it as a masterpiece. The intensity, the feel of the weapons, the detailed graphics, the soundtrack or even characters like Radec.
The famous E3 trailer was fake but it forced Sony and Guerrilla Games to somewhat live to the expectations and they delivered something really outstanding.

I played Resistance 1 and 2 alot back then, especially online. Nathan Hale story is cool by the way.
I lost interest after that. 3 is a completely different vibe, Retribution and Burning Skies weren't that great imo.

Yes they should.
And killzone too, they have customers that like shooters and fps.
... and that are starting to feel a little bit fed up of the same ol 'action/adventure story driving cinematic' formula in every single first party. It was nice for some time, but after so many times, every big studio doing the same shit (only changes the ip) over and over again, they funking ruined the formula to saturation!
So, in my humble opinion, i think it's pretty much time, and a safe bet, to bring back some old school shooting action. And i mean real action _ fock the long cinematic bullshit movies making me lose my bonner!

My exact thought process brother. Enough of the open world 3rd person games. Let's get back to first person action.

Should they? Yes.

Will they? Probably No.
This unfortunately.

The Resistance series sold worse with each entry which is funny because Resistance 3 is by far the best of the trilogy and an amazing games. I actually just played through Resistance 3 again the last few days so this thread is weird timing.

I would buy a Resistance trilogy for PS5 day 0. Same thing with Infamous and Killzone as well.

I could see them maybe pushing out a compilation (though leaving out Burning Skies), but that's it. 3 was a definitive end point for the narrative, and as the most solid entry it's also a good one to go out on, so it's hard to see the appeal to a sequel.

Never played it, but when R1 came out it looked cool as a combo of COD 2 and sci fi. And Resistance games looked slick where you can see bullets and comet trails. Something you dont always see in games.

I'd be down for this, but if I'm honest I'd rather have inFamous or Killzone

Hell, even remasters of any of these games would be nice, get them off of being trapped on PS3 at 640p

0% chance.

Resistance 3 sold less than 2 million units despite great reviews. Doom: The Dark Ages sold well below expectations despite great reviews. Titanfall 2 sold poorly despite having an excellent campaign.

Story driven first-person shooters are dead. People don't buy them.

I was a big Resistance supporter. Came home with me the day I bought my PS3. Defend this guy to death, but only recently did I watch (scrub through) a genuine playthrough. I really did not remember how crude the maps and encounter designs are. Shocking would not be too strong a descriptor here. I want to replay it before I'll formally condemn it, this is all still in theory phase. The only thing I can think of is maybe the frame rate and controller really changed what the devs expected the player to be able to do that informed the encounters. Clearly they were trying to ape Halo but did not understand which parts to steal. Random chest high barriers and enemy themed furniture: check. Thoughtful enemy placement and group demographics: nah, random is fine. Elevation, but only during traversal and between encounter areas. In some cases damn near boxing it in.

I'd be down for a new Resistance. I would absolutely prefer it to Marvel assembly line stuff, but if I had full creative reign to deploy them on any project I wanted, I could find better uses for their time.

Unless it's rebooted, they shouldn't. With BF6 most certainly printing a lot of cash for EA, Sony should stop fucking around and bring MAG, but evolve the IP instead of releasing some copy pasta from well over a decade ago.

Better question is what do you want from a new Resistance game?

What about the original trilogy did you like that you're not getting in any games being made right now?

Because those are 3 very different games.

There's a ton of things you could do with the franchise as it's simply an alien invasion of earth. You could go to new locations for example. Maybe somewhere like in Russia where the outbreak started.

It's the same as Killzone. There are plenty of stories you could tell.
