Anybody else think sony bring back resistance?

It's just weird how badly Sony treats their legacy catalog. At the very least all games should be playable on modern hardware, remastered or not.

I really want the OG God of War trilogy + side games.

Yes, it was one of the more interesting series on the Playstation side.

Although I'll rather have more Ratchet and Clank games and also a new Infamous game more but Resistance would definitely be the one I want to return most after those two.

Honestly, just slapping the Resistance name on a new game doesnt guarantee it'll recapture the old magic

A modern version would need more than nostalgia, it'd need a clear vision, the right dev team, and a reason to exist beyond "Sony needs shooters"
Funny how you could already say that about the main trilogy as well. Anyway, I actually believe there's a new game coming.

Have you seen Concord and Marathon? Mediocre is a big step up for Sony these days.
PS3 babies will cherrypick some meh stuff from Sony's current output while trying to pretend that Resistance 2, MAG, SOCOM 4 or Confrontation weren't absolutely shit.

There's a ton of things you could do with the franchise as it's simply an alien invasion of earth. You could go to new locations for example. Maybe somewhere like in Russia where the outbreak started.

It's the same as Killzone. There are plenty of stories you could tell.
You could say that about a ton of other franchises.

They tried that with both Killzone and Resistance(R3 and Shadowfall). New characters, new location, new story. Neither game did enough to stand out. Sony likely knows if they just slap those names on new FPS games and they do "okay" that's the end of those franchises in any media. Which is why you haven't seen another one.

Are they making a new one? Maybe. But if it's just Resistance - but in Russia, then it's highly likely to massively underperform.

Better question is what do you want from a new Resistance game?

What about the original trilogy did you like that you're not getting in any games being made right now?

Here are two of the most distinctive points:

  • Interesting setting that blends science fiction with an alternate history of the world.
  • Very creative weapons that were fun to use.

Also, back when the first game was released at the launch of PS3, a 40-player online game was a rare treat. I barely play any online games anymore (whether they're first-person shooters or otherwise), so I haven't kept up on newer games of this type, but the PS3 games were incredibly engaging.

Because those are 3 very different games.
The lore and setting. The chimera invading earth. It's literally sonys version of gears of war lol. What's not to like.

Resistance had a brilliant concept but sadly the execution did not match it. Levels were too small and the set pieces weren't as grand. The game pretty much uses the formula of Ratchet & Clank of making gimmicky weapons but never realized to it's full potential. What it needs is a total makeover and no doubt with the technology of today, and a better storytelling. And most importantly, if they can nail the multiplayer, they might have a real hit in their hands.

That's a good point. Gears may have lost its way, but with the remaster coming out, people are going to probably enjoy it again. It's also coming out on Playstation. That's going to be the comparison. If Sony can't make a version of the game that's better than a 20 year old Gears game, would you buy it?

Probably sounds like I'm being a huge downer or hating on Resistance.

Not doing either.

Just asking the question Insomniac and Sony probably asks themselves every time this comes up internally. What can we do with Resistance that would be different enough to warrant a massive budget and production?

Fuck man I'd just take a remastered trilogy at this point.
1 and 3's campaigns (splitscreen baby!) and 2's online modes? Fuck yeah sign me up.

A single player scfi-fi FPS with a war/invasion setting. An FPS game with weapon progression like Resistance 3 would be nice too.

Please do. I regard it as a masterpiece. The intensity, the feel of the weapons, the detailed graphics, the soundtrack or even characters like Radec.
The famous E3 trailer was fake but it forced Sony and Guerrilla Games to somewhat live to the expectations and they delivered something really outstanding.

I played Resistance 1 and 2 alot back then, especially online. Nathan Hale story is cool by the way.
I lost interest after that. 3 is a completely different vibe, Retribution and Burning Skies weren't that great imo.
>Masterpiece
>30fps
>Laggy controls

🤮

It's a shame people didn't connect with Resistance 3. Was a good reset and something to build on.
Back in the day I wasn't part of communities like Reddit or Gaf, so I wasn't aware of such negative sentiments around the third game. I thought the game was great, better than 2 even.

I don't think they will but I'd love to see it if only for Insomniac to not become a Marvel franchise-only studio.

Anything but Ratchet and Marvel IP would be appreciated. And I did enjoy the Resistance games back then, even though I didn't feel they were anything super special.

Sony should bring everything from PS3 to their modern platform and they don't need this to be a "remake" or even a "remaster" - just port the damn things.
It's mind boggling to me that Nixxes was put on making a HZD "remaster" for PS5 of all things instead of that.

Yah because pulling insomniac off the free Marvel money with Spider-Man and Wolverine, is a good bet to go sell 1 million copies of a franchise that only got remote traction from console warring back in the day.

Resistance sucked and I played all of them.

If Sony isn't bringing back Killzone, they're definitely not going to bring back Resistance. A shame that the trilogy was never remastered, I never experienced it but it seemed cool after reading about it and watching some gameplays.

I always thought the franchise was mid. I bought the first one on day one and remember trying to convince myself its good while Xbox360 had Gears of War. Also it was short as hell. Even for that time it looked like it was one foot on the PS2 side and one foot on PS3 graphics wise.

Yeah, Resistance multiplayer was surprisingly fun. I miss the PS3 era multiplayer games (Resistance, Killzone, MAG, Uncharted, TLOU Factions, GTA IV).

It appears single player FPS games are a thing of the past (in the AAA world) Sony would probably try to make it a live service shooter game lol.
we are still geting a new metro , next dying light , judas ( if it ever gets released ) , next cyberpunk , blade , inxile next game

AAA fps genre is still alive although not as popular as it was back in the day , if the Half life 3 leaks are true and the game will have all those features we are gonna get one of the best FPS game of all time

thematically it would make sense. More than having Days Gone and Last of Us kinda close to each other.
Resistance is Wolfenstein mixed with Gears/Quake.
Killzone is futuristic kinda dark CoD. (so also a bit Wolfenstein, a different bit, in there)
And Last of Us stays of course their zombie thing.
Maybe even revive MAG/Planetside somehow and ultimately make some GaaS MP crossover shooter thingy with all their main characters, characters people might actually care about. When Geralt can apepar in Soul Calibur, some Portal magic whatever can unite Sony's characters.

Right, because they need to take desperate measures to get Halo under control.
Why does it have to be about competing with Xbox? Some of us just want a decent first party FPS game with a single player and multiplayer mode, like Killzone for example.

Don't worry though, Sony will keep shitting out remasters and remakes of games that are barely 5 years old.

I agree, but wasn't this series conceived of as a Halo competitor to begin with? Like even when they made games they only made it in reaction to something.

Not questioning the usefulness to gamers, just the motives of Sony management. As a direct reply to OP nah, I don't see it.

No once Sony abandons an ip for sometime they usually don't really go back. The only ones they seem to be consistent with if we are going from the franchises they have debuted PS1-PS3 is

God of War
Last of us
Gran Turismo
Ratchet and Clank and little big Planet (Which might be in danger going forward due to sales)

Uncharted seems like it's in Limbo and I'm not sure we will see a new installment anytime soon.

More games is better, but did you want it back as a $50 game in anticipation of sales like 2-3mil or a $70 game that sells 2-3mil. If it wasn't full-effort top graphics, I bet most the people asking for it would not buy it.

I'm not seeing it. The franchise already struggled after the trilogy.
Killzone on the other hand had a stellar game for the Vita for example.

A Killzone 2 remake with even more stellar graphics for PS6 now that would be something. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

No way man. I'm in my fifties. Can't handle the weight of heavy weapons 'nomore.

After Spider-Man 2 and the mess that Wolverine seems to be, i'm not sure I want Insomniac to touch Resistance again.

Saying that, Resistance Fall of Man is one of my all-time favourite online FPS games whilst Resistance 3 has one of the best FPS campaigns i've ever played.
