I just tried to go to my reccomendations based on the movies I've rated and I swear I just spent 20 minutes taking different editions of Kid's Songs dvd's off my reccomendations list. I'm sure they don't have as much data as netflix, but why even have the section if it's this worthless.

I've mainly rated crime and horror movies to this point, kind of scary that this would be what to reccomend to someone with this kind of taste.

I ignore lists like that. Unless the "recommendations" are hand picked they're probably worthless. Except for with http://www.whattorent.com/ maybe.
