Anyone else don't really enjoy horror games?

I don't play horror games, but I like it when regular games throws a horror element on the player. Even if it's just a cheap jump scare like the Arkham games did when Bruce's noodle is cooked with fear gas.

But its fun and andrenaline pumping especially after playing silent hill 2 remake for Ps5. And you get to appreciate great visuals and effects which is mostly found in survival horror games.

I enjoy it as long as it has a great story to tell. Love to play it in the cold dark night for a more immerse experience.

I liked these type of games earlier in life when we are always bored and trying to find excitement, without a care in the world. I remember playing REmake shortly before I could even drive.

Now real life is stressful enough and I want the opposite type of game, to take me OUT of a fight or flight state.

The closest thing is mass zombie survival, but that isn't really horror. That's the same kind of cathartic stress release as a John Wick movie.

Yep - I absolutely am not scared by horror films, but horror games and I just can't get into them... Alien: Isolation was one of the ones which really fucked with my head lol

I love horror movies and shows, but for some reason I can't easily get myself to play too many horror games. I did finish Outlast 2 last year, which honestly felt boring.

The evil Within 2 has been waiting for me to continue with it for many years now, lol. I did play the trial of that, which was like several hours, and it was only the starting area, I need to go back to it.

I really like Horror games but to be honest not even one of them ever scared me (outside of typical jump scares). I like gameplay, atmosphere, puzzle solving etc.

Same story with horror movies, I really like them but rarely they work on me. But "Haunting of the Hill House" is something else - this shit was intense (watching alone in the middle of the night).
Have you ever played P.T.?

I like horror and survival horror games but I think the variety has gotten a bit stale.

I'd like to see less reliance on zombies and creatures and more attention to atmosphere and psychological themes.

I think the trick with horror games is that developers end up falling into the trap of "see scary thing, shoot with gun, run away, repeat" but I think there's actually plenty of runway to do something more that's less dependent on tropes and more in line with some of the atmosphere and mechanics of PT with more exploration.

I am a pussy no doubt. Tried playing Amnesia the dark descent when it launched and damn I am not good at First Person camera, absolutely no spatial awareness and that in a Horror games is really scary. Just too immersive.

I will have my Resident Evil TPS games thank you.

I honestly love horror games and the mysterious, unerving aspect of them. I hardly get truly scared but when I do I know the game is truly special

I like action horror - where I have many guns or ways to kill the monsters like RE, Silent Hill, Dead Space and shooters like DOOM 3, FEAR.

I do not play games which just have horror ( I can't kill the monster ) and cheap jumpscares like Outlast, many indie horror stuff ( Madison, Supernatural, etc )

I think at this point I don't consider myself nearly as much of a horror game fan as I would have years ago. All of my favorite horror games are 2 generation old or older, and the majority of recent horror games that I've enjoyed are remakes of games from those generations (5/6/7th gens). There are exceptions of course like Chillas Art and Puppet Combo games, but most modern horror games are shit and somehow still chase that early Pewdiepie and Markiplier audience. I prefer the moody and atmospheric horror games like Silent Hill, early RE, Fatal Frame, Siren, etc. This also mimics my taste in horror in general as when it comes to movies I don't like slashers (dreadfully boring and repetitive) and prefer stuff like how the Japanese handle it (Kairo, Dark Water).

Silent Hill 2, Fatal Frame 2, and Dead Space are my holy trinity of horror games.

Lots of violence, blood, scary atmosphere, disturbing OST (some music can be nice, like vocals in Silent Hill), hellish monsters, zombies... :messenger_fearful:

Like, give me a break!!!
You sound like a little bitch lol

just fucking with you

Although I love Resident Evil and Silent Hill I never felt well after playing them.

I'm convinced horror games (and movies) are detrimental to mental health.

Horror games are awesome. I can watch walk throughs, but I can't play them as they make me a nervous wreck and induce panic attacks. Doom 3, Fear 1&2 and The Last of Us Part 1&2 pushed me to my limits lol.

Horror games can be great when the mechanics have depth and are implemented well...but so many horror games suck at game design it's not even funny.

The amount of them after Amnesia that are just walking simulators with slight puzzle elements bores the fuck out of me.

A lot of horror games overlap with stealth gameplay, which I don't enjoy. Plus you tend to be artificially limited in what you can do in horror games or in ammo, which is not fun for me either. But I do enjoy the RE games for the most part!

Some horror games end up really good and some are boring. As with anything it has more to do with the underlying game itself and if it is fun.

Never touched them, did find the likes of Alien Isolation engrossing to watch though, it was a Alien movie in its own right.....recently finished watching a walkthrough of "A Quiet place", which was similar to Alien Isolation, but a lot more to be aware of in terms of the noise you make....but a game like that I can't see it being something you would return back to after completing it....

Horror games are probably my favorite genre of videogames.

They often benefit from the most striking art direction, most intense gameplay moments, most interesting stories, and most satisfying puzzles,

I haven't been able to take them seriously since the early PSX era (and me still being a kid prob had a lot to do with that)

I don't enjoy them 99% of the time

Last one I bothered with was P.T. because of the hype which I played through with a blank stare on my face....

The only exception being the F.E.A.R series the maps/gameplay are just that damn good but the horror aspect does nothing for me

Depends on the game. A lot of horror games nowadays are just glorified walking simulators and I don't care about any of those at all.
