Anyone else find watching sports incredibly boring?

All team sports are terribly boring to watch, really.

However things like gymnastics are amazing to watch. Or synchronized swimming, stuff like that.
i agree

(i don't agree)

I like watching the more fast paced sports like Hockey and Soccer on TV. American Football and Baseball are the worst though, they are only fun if you are in the stands drunk.

I end up spending more time watching all the highlights on ESPN most of the time. I really only sit down and watch an entire game of any of the major 4 US sports when they are in playoffs.

Baseball, golf, and auto racing are extremely boring to watch on TV. However, they're a lot of fun to watch live.

Love watching football, basketball, hockey, soccer, tennis, poker, volleyball, billiards, boxing, MMA... and I'm sure others.

Also, sports are usually a lot more fun to watch socially. The crowd will definitely get you into it.

Funny, I was going to make a thread about something very similar.

I love American Football. But lately my love of soccer has destroyed my ability to watch the NFL at all. I really want to watch and I want to enjoy the experience. But, honestly after watching so much soccer (and to a lesser extent basketball) it's just so wasteful of time and all that.

Oh look they kicked and commercial.
Now everyone takes a ~43 second break
and there's 10 seconds of action
time for another ~43 second break as the reporters gush about some player
and another 10 seconds of action
Oh wait, it looks like something went wrong.
Let's all stop for several minutes to make sure everything was all nice and fair for everyone. Wouldn't want anyone to feel things weren't fair.
Commercial break
Oh and now we're back and it seems the white team made the blue team feel sad that's a 15 yard penalty
Wait about another minute.
Another ten seconds of action
another ~43 second break. More reporters gushing like a porn star in a squirt film.
Oh they didn't make it ten yards. They'll have to kick the ball
commericial

It's gotten infuriating. Sure, people like to complain about soccer players faking but at least while they're faking the clock's running.

NFL RedZone brah

That shit is a motherfucking GOD SEND!

0 Commercials, almost all games shown that Sunday (except Sunday night football)

You get all the good parts, any team driving the game switches to that, I can't believe I lived without this for years

Sometimes they fucking Quad Box, Last week 4 teams were in the RedZone, it was fucking amazing, 2 teams scored like 1 play apart, 1 kicked a FG after 3 plays, last 1 fumbled, all 4 simultaneously going on...SO FUCKING GOOD!

That is why I love talking with GAF in NFL weekly thread due to it, when they talk about their game, 95% of the time Red Zone shows me what took place

Talk in the nfl thread? That shits basically a twitter feed during game day.

The most entertaining sports are the ones that semi-literate ADHD apes find to be boring, with not enough scoring or violence, e.g. soccer and baseball. Those are also the only two sports where TV commercial breaks make sense: only at halftime for soccer, only between half-innings in baseball.

The most boring sports are the ones where there is so much scoring that each individual point loses almost all meaning, and the nuance of non-scoring events is so unimportant that there is little to separate the knowledgeable from brain-dead casuals, e.g. basketball (specifically the NBA).

Ignorance and arrogance in one pretentious package.

I stopped dating a really cute girl because she was too into sports. I can watch a live game, and get really into it with crowd, but I find following a team and being a fan, a pretty pointless endeavor.

To each his own though...

I'm about to stop talking to the girl I'm with now because (edit: not the only reason) she doesn't know anything about sports. Sports are one of the few things I can talk about constantly, at least about my teams. I have yet to find a girl who knows anything about sports, professional or college.

As for the topic, no, I do not get bored watching sports. I can watch just about anything: basketball, football, soccer, baseball, pool, bowling, golf, swimming, hockey, racing, even darts or poker. The first 4 are definitely my most watched though. And basketball is my favorite thing to do, without question.

Its hard to care for a sport if you have no team to follow or you don't regularly play said sport. I'm pretty happy with following sports a lot myself and enjoy watching matches and games.

I have a pet peeve for people who say they love sports, and then talk about what their favorite professional teams are. It's obvious that what they mean to say is that they love watching sports, which isn't the same as loving sports. Similarly, when I say I don't like watching sports, people ask me why I don't like sports...but I do.

Team sports is like religion, apparently the majority of humanity is supposed to be enraptured by it but I must be an alien or something because I find ZERO appeal.

It also causes the same amount of fanaticism, so perfect analogy

I think they can mean pretty much the same thing. While I like playing (American) football, I like the sport more because I appreciate its strategy and fundamentals. The same is true for most other sports. These qualities are best exhibited by professionals or talented athletes, which is why I watch more than I play. I still feel I'm justified in saying, "I like sports."

I can (and usually enjoy) watching any sport but fucking baseball.

Most boring activity on the planet.

I don't even know why I played baseball for so long, I fucking hated it.

I'm always the odd one out at family gatherings because I find televised sports boring as hell. The only team sport I can tolerate watching is soccer. I will say sports are better in person at a stadium.

The absolute best part of post college these past eight years is that I've never had to watch a sporting match unwillingly. I have two older brothers and a dad who only watch sports, baseball being my dad's favorite. My college years were spent having to watch NBA regular season games with my room mate. The only thing less boring was studying, so thank you NBA for getting me to study.

The way I look at it is my dad is pushing 71. Interactive entertainment didn't exist in his day. He worked his ass off and the weekend was about grown men playing games. I'm sure a 7-hour double header between the Red Sox and Yankees is like what South Koreans get excited about over a Starcraft Tournament.

I just find it boring as hell unless it's the World Cup or the Olympics.

I just dont get team sports at all. So you just want to get the ball or puck into a net or basket more than the other team? That's amazingly boring to me and I don't get it! I was born with the inability to be amused by this strange setup. I also am not big into the tribal aspect of working with a team, rooting for a team. I'm independent, fuck teams.

But MMA or boxing.. That I get. Taking down another human is intuitive to me. Same goes for snowboard stunts or anything like that.. That's innately impressive. Anything speedy is cool too: racing, skiing, whatever.

Team sports is like religion, apparently the majority of humanity is supposed to be enraptured by it but I must be an alien or something because I find ZERO appeal.

lol hel! yeah

Kind of sucks how everyone is excited for football season and stuff and I can't get excited.

Though, dunking in basketball is pretty freaking cool. Also, in football what some dude runs past all these tacklers and gets by them is kind of cool. It seems kind of like a war going on I guess.

But hitting the ball and trying to get a home run is kind of cool...I guess I kind of understand sports. They're basically just games or recreational activities. They're usually fun to play, but can be really boring to watch. But on the other hand, you're watching people who dedicated their whole lives to these sports and they're the best of the best which I guess I understand can be exciting. And if you like to play these sports, you may wonder how you would perform if you gave it your all and stuff like that. Like you try to picture how you could match up to these guys or how you could reach their levels. That I understand can be exciting.

But its kind of like playing video games for a living. May be fun to play, but watching not so much unless you're actually taking part in the competition.

...That's why I'm kind of not interested in playing team sports because I'd never be able to play with big dogs especially at my age. I mean I am pretty sure there are a lot of dads who want to live through their sons and see them play professional football or basketball because they weren't able to.

I thought RedZone was the coolest thing ever for a few weeks then it lost me. It's basically like watching someone play pinball, all flashing lights and loud sounds. Sort of lose some of the nuances of the game

Yeah, this is another thing I agree with. Like how would you decide what team to root for in the first place? It doesn't make any sense to root for any other team except the home team because they're success means more economic success to your city/state. It brings reputation and pride to your city. You can feel proud for being from a winning city/state. I cannot think of any other reason to root for a team.

Honestly, I want to only play in sports that I can actually compete in and gain recognition for. And NBA, NFL, MLB and football (soccer) are obviously out of the question. The only thing left for guys who haven't played those sports their whole lives can do is like pick up running or weightlifting or something. I want to compete, yo!

Baseball is the worst sport evarrr to watch. I prefer watching golf. That's right, I prefer watching golf to baseball. Come at me.

Well said. It's hard to watch because it's barely a sport.

My office overlooked the Angel's spring training camp for years and I got to watch what actual "spring training" entailed...

A couple of hours talking...sitting and talking more. Playing light catch for 10 minutes, and a couple jogs back and forth. Hell, we'd see player smoking during 'practice'.
Pretty much lost all respect for the sport at that point. I still goto games every now and then but it's mostly to spend time with friends and drink, not to watch the games.

It's such a horribly boring hobby. At least golf allows you to drink and smoke. Baseball tries to pretend it's above that.

On a side note. I've never see so many non-sports fans in my entire life in one place at one time. I guess it's surprising but then again this is a video game forum.

Because you really like the players on the team and like the sport?

Always have. No interaction, nothing of interest, and it feels like I'm watching talent being wasted on figuring out pointless statistics, when those folks would be better suited crunching numbers for more productive organizations.

Sport fandom is inherited. I care about baseball and football because my dad beat Cincinnati sports into my head since I was born. I know.

I can watch any NFL game but only care about watching the Reds in MLB. Don't even bother with the playoffs.
I don't think so. My dad only watches football occasionally, I started watching cause me and my brother liked it (he's a Lion and a Lakers fan). I watch Football and Basketball whenever they are on. I'm a fan of the Rams and the Rockets, yet I live in So Cal. I make no sense as a fan.

Boxing is the only sport i enjoy.

I also hate when its a big soccer match in Scotland, my entire facebook turns into a sports news feed.

Wow this thread.

Sports haters of any sort don't understand the game nor have they played the sports themselves, so they don't appreciate what happens in sports games.

I used to hate on every sport out there, but after watching them live in-person and learned what's going on by actually participating, I've changed my views about sports in a positive manner.
lmao this is what sports fans always say...

I played just about every sport when I was a kid. I understand the mechanics of each of the games. I can still watch basketball sometimes, but not for a whole game. Some people understand the sports and legitamately find them boring. I don't know why that's hard to comprehend. (Going to games can be pretty fun though, I will give you that)

Do you like reading books? No? I guess you don't understand how books work. Do you like My Little Pony? No? I guess you don't know how cartoons work. It's a ridiculous line of logic.

Never been a sports fan since I was little. The only thing my parents drilled into my head was education and more homework. >.<

However, growing up and participating in athletics/sports is much more fun with friends. I'd rather take a nap then watch any sports on TV.
