I love American Football. But lately my love of soccer has destroyed my ability to watch the NFL at all. I really want to watch and I want to enjoy the experience. But, honestly after watching so much soccer (and to a lesser extent basketball) it's just so wasteful of time and all that.
Oh look they kicked and commercial.
Now everyone takes a ~43 second break
and there's 10 seconds of action
time for another ~43 second break as the reporters gush about some player
and another 10 seconds of action
Oh wait, it looks like something went wrong.
Let's all stop for several minutes to make sure everything was all nice and fair for everyone. Wouldn't want anyone to feel things weren't fair.
Commercial break
Oh and now we're back and it seems the white team made the blue team feel sad that's a 15 yard penalty
Wait about another minute.
Another ten seconds of action
another ~43 second break. More reporters gushing like a porn star in a squirt film.
Oh they didn't make it ten yards. They'll have to kick the ball
commericial
It's gotten infuriating. Sure, people like to complain about soccer players faking but at least while they're faking the clock's running.
Talk in the nfl thread? That shits basically a twitter feed during game day.GraveRobberX said:NFL RedZone brah
That shit is a motherfucking GOD SEND!
0 Commercials, almost all games shown that Sunday (except Sunday night football)
You get all the good parts, any team driving the game switches to that, I can't believe I lived without this for years
Sometimes they fucking Quad Box, Last week 4 teams were in the RedZone, it was fucking amazing, 2 teams scored like 1 play apart, 1 kicked a FG after 3 plays, last 1 fumbled, all 4 simultaneously going on...SO FUCKING GOOD!
That is why I love talking with GAF in NFL weekly thread due to it, when they talk about their game, 95% of the time Red Zone shows me what took place
xbhaskarx said:The most entertaining sports are the ones that semi-literate ADHD apes find to be boring, with not enough scoring or violence, e.g. soccer and baseball. Those are also the only two sports where TV commercial breaks make sense: only at halftime for soccer, only between half-innings in baseball.
The most boring sports are the ones where there is so much scoring that each individual point loses almost all meaning, and the nuance of non-scoring events is so unimportant that there is little to separate the knowledgeable from brain-dead casuals, e.g. basketball (specifically the NBA).

To each his own though...

I think they can mean pretty much the same thing. While I like playing (American) football, I like the sport more because I appreciate its strategy and fundamentals. The same is true for most other sports. These qualities are best exhibited by professionals or talented athletes, which is why I watch more than I play. I still feel I'm justified in saying, "I like sports."Karsticles said:I have a pet peeve for people who say they love sports, and then talk about what their favorite professional teams are. It's obvious that what they mean to say is that they love watching sports, which isn't the same as loving sports. Similarly, when I say I don't like watching sports, people ask me why I don't like sports...but I do.

BocoDragon said:I just dont get team sports at all. So you just want to get the ball or puck into a net or basket more than the other team? That's amazingly boring to me and I don't get it! I was born with the inability to be amused by this strange setup. I also am not big into the tribal aspect of working with a team, rooting for a team. I'm independent, fuck teams.
But MMA or boxing.. That I get. Taking down another human is intuitive to me. Same goes for snowboard stunts or anything like that.. That's innately impressive. Anything speedy is cool too: racing, skiing, whatever.

All white ball sports suck to watch.krameriffic said:Baseball is the worst sport evarrr to watch. I prefer watching golf. That's right, I prefer watching golf to baseball. Come at me.

Most boring activity on the planet.
I don't even know why I played baseball for so long, I fucking hated it.
I thought RedZone was the coolest thing ever for a few weeks then it lost me. It's basically like watching someone play pinball, all flashing lights and loud sounds. Sort of lose some of the nuances of the gameGraveRobberX said:NFL RedZone brah

Ketchup Boy said:Yeah, this is another thing I agree with. Like how would you decide what team to root for in the first place? It doesn't make any sense to root for any other team except the home team because they're success means more economic success to your city/state. It brings reputation and pride to your city. You can feel proud for being from a winning city/state. I cannot think of any other reason to root for a team.
I don't think so. My dad only watches football occasionally, I started watching cause me and my brother liked it (he's a Lion and a Lakers fan). I watch Football and Basketball whenever they are on. I'm a fan of the Rams and the Rockets, yet I live in So Cal. I make no sense as a fan.daycru said:Sport fandom is inherited. I care about baseball and football because my dad beat Cincinnati sports into my head since I was born. I know.
I can watch any NFL game but only care about watching the Reds in MLB. Don't even bother with the playoffs.
lmao this is what sports fans always say...claviertekky said:Wow this thread.
Sports haters of any sort don't understand the game nor have they played the sports themselves, so they don't appreciate what happens in sports games.
I used to hate on every sport out there, but after watching them live in-person and learned what's going on by actually participating, I've changed my views about sports in a positive manner.
