Anyone else skip this gen?

I've started to fall off at the last gen: didn'r get a PS4, 'cause it had no backward compatibility, instead switched to Switch. The current PS5/XBS/S2 gen is a joke, IMHO. Either way, my main gaming stuff occurs on PC, so I don't think that I'm missing anything.

No, that would be stupid if you like videogames because this gen is having a lot of great games.

Every year has been difficult to choose a top 10 best games of the year because there are like 5-10 more that feels really bad to leave them outside the top 10.

Console wise this was the first gen I skipped. Originally I had plans to get a ps5 but than they were impossible getting at launch. I than figured I'd wait for something to come out worthwhile that would get me to bite but nothing ever has. I had thoughts of getting a pro but spending 1k on old tech I just could never justify. GFN has been a saving grace for me that has gotten me through the generation, and July of last year I bought a steamdeck which has been my favourite gaming purchase in a long time.

Was anyone else in the same boat and skipped this gen?
Console wise I know a lot of people who jumped to PC this gen. PS5/XSX being hard to get at launch and during 2 years, prices of games on consoles (80€), subscriptions becoming very expensives, etc. But I don't consider playing on PC "skipping a gen", PC gamers play the same games that console gamers.

have not skipped it but I have participated in playing games from it far less than any previous generation. There just aren't that many games that come out nowadays that I have interest in.

Doesn't help that my backlog stlil contains games I bought 20 years ago.

Yes.

A few years ago my geforce 2070 died so I turned back to my Xbox One X, then it died.

Bought a GeForce 4070, and I am glad I went back to 100 percent PC gaming again.

160 fps, keyboard and mouse without having to use an adapter, being able to pick any controller of your liking, emulation which is most of my playtime.

Can never go back.

Will also skip the next console gens easily.

If you have bought a SteamDeck, you aren't really skipping anything as SteamDeck is capable of playing most of the current gen stuff.

I got a PS5 Pro and Switch 2 and this might be it for me. No worthy upgrades, same thing, plus 3/4 of my games I never played.

Thought I was the weird one but I've seen this a lot lately. People stocked up on games and aren't interested in expensive new hardware with diminishing returns.

If anyone didn't fully read the OP, he technically didn't skip this gen because he bought a Steam Deck and is enjoying it, but I'm guessing that he doesn't consider a steam deck a part of any console generation even though it's a hybrid portable.

I've skipped the consoles this gen so far. Had always got a Playstation for Gran Turismo and other exclusives but it's not been that compelling, too many ps4 remasters, no ND or GG and the price is increasing making the likelihood of buying decreasing. GT7 took a long time to get updated to be on par with previous games and launched with predatory mtx, probably is forgotten by most how bad it was with the heavily increased grind and lack of cars but I've lost interest now.

No, but I should have. The PS5 became a dusty paper weight, my Series X became the family DVD player, and the Switch became the holiday co-op machine. Everything else I just play PC. Don't really know why I didn't just stick to my guns and go PC only, but I jumped in to all of em like a jackass again.

I'm gonna do my damnedest to not jump in on the next gen. My PC is more than enough, and I need to be more careful about spending as my daughter's getting older, as I wanna be able to buy her a car on her sixteenth, and buying up every piece of game hardware, regardless of how much I'll use it, just isn't intelligent anymore.

I haven't though I'm much less invested than previous gens. I'm buying fewer games overall and almost nothing day 1. GTA6 will be the first day 1 purchase I make since Elden Ring.

Nah I bought everything.

Plenty of regrets tbh … But going in I had no idea that the software output would be so low, and had no plans to have a PC in the living room either making consoles irrelevant.

If you bought a steam deck did you skip?

Quit being a wanker mate. You know you want to play RE9 on the pro and RE4R.

I started the gen waiting for a decent concentration of exclusives on Xbox or PS to decide which one I wanted more. I'm still waiting, so… kind of?

Might jump in next gen and play catch up on the cheap. Then again, might just go the Steam Machine route.

I might not be fan of 1st party game from Sony but 3rd party absolutely delivering on bangers after bangers.

1st party is not everything.

Yes. Skipped consoles this generation because I didn't care for any of the exclusives that have been released. My gaming PC was too old to play anything new, so I gifted it to a kid in my neighborhood so he could play Minecraft with his friends. I got my Steam Deck with the very first batch and have been playing through my backlog on it for 99% of the time.

Props to you for giving to the next generation.

This gen? Yes. NCAA football and MLB the show will be available on the current Xbox for the foreseeable future. Other games? Well the 5070ti will handle the rest. I'll upgrade my 7700x when the 10080X3d becomes stable with my mobo.

Fucking nope. Lots of great 3rd party games this gen. If I didn't have a ps5 and a series x, I would have gaming pc. Only Nintendo I skipped due to Canadian pricing of hardware and games. I might go for if they release an oled model and have more games I want by then.

Got a Series X day one. Haven't used it much in the past couple of years as I got a good PC now. It's still waiting on GTA VI like the rest of us.

I'll probably bite on the Switch 2 once it gets a pile of games I'm interested in. Maybe when Winds and Waves releases.

By "skipping" in principle. Yes, my only exclusives that I've played on the PS5 are Ratchet & Clank + Demon's Souls. + Returnal The rest were PS4 tiles. Then that was the end of it. Total waste of money.

Nah, I just skipped on bad games, but I do that every gen. This is the first time I didn't get a Nintendo console on launch though, so there's that.

I played the superior pc version of both of those via gfn.

And I only got a steamdeck last July so I been without a console for most of the generation. Some might argue that steamdeck isn't current gen as it struggles to play most demanding games this gen.

I bought a PS5 and XSX at launch, barely used them and eventually sold them. Down to PC and Switch 2 for current gen.

There are few games I'd like to play on console but not enough to warrant another purchase.

I have to laugh when people say stuff like this. There are WAY more non-gamers than gamers out there. Don't be silly.
You laugh because you don't understand questions I see. The topic isn't about non-gamers vs gamers. "Did you SKIP this gen", asked in a damn gaming form, was a question to gamers.

Got a ps5 early. Barely used it, sold it.
Got a Switch 2 day one. Barely use it.

Console exclusives wise this gen was such a disappointment so far.
I always went PC + PS + Nintendo, after this gen that will definitely change....

might as well have. my PS5 has been a youtube machine pretty much since i got it. the only games i've played on it are games i didn't want to wait for PC release and the only reason i haven't got rid of it yet is because i don't want to wait for GTA 6 to come to PC.

sony hasn't released any of their games that interest me. this has easily been the most boring playstation generation yet. i doubt i'll be getting a PS6 seems like a no brainer to skip it.

It's been a mixed bag. Had the Series X, downgraded to a cheap S which is only kinda next gen and is effectively a 360 mini and halo box. I was gaming on a 3070 but the PC is down. I got the Switch 2, but it's an ass place to buy third party games. I try a lot of stuff, but always seem to retreat to the safety of eternally stable decade old PC and Switch 1 with homebrew/Retroarch.

Not in the slightest. I always welcome a new gen. The problem of being an early adopter is that dev cycles got too large that the first few years in a new gen haven't been all that exciting. That's why I think consoles lost some of its luster.

Now, can't really complain on the PC side. I play everything, from older emulators to the most recent ones, and new PC releases. My joy is on playing stuff that entertain me.

I was happy to upgrade to PS5 because PS4 was loud, almost all 30fps, and the awful slow hard drive. PS5 was a nice upgrade.

Now you can skip generations, PS4 games (Star Wars, god of war, cod etc.) are playable and the gap isn't that big between generations, I think PS5 and Series X delivered, GT7 and Halo Infinite were good, btw you can really arrive to a generation late and it won't matter.
