Anyone else think an exercise bike integrated with a quality game is an untapped market?

Will videogames & exercise equipment turn into something big?

Exercise bikes have had games integrated (pedaling + steering manipulates your on screen avatar) for years.

The only problem is that the games are all terrible.

Does anyone else think this is an untapped market and we're waiting for a company to fuse the two in order to capitalize?
 
100% no. GIANT bulky stationary bikes is very 1980's and no one wants to play a game with one. Just go outside and run or ride.

Nintendo did exercise stuff for decades, with balance boards and ring fit, but at least those were far smaller

a VR exercise bike would be okay actually, wear it and ride and it syncs the speed i ride with the set course, make it a mario kart map, only it be mario biking, or pokemon bike
 
Peloton had a cool mode that was more of an interactive experience than a game, but I enjoyed it. It was called Lanebreak and worked similar to Amplitude or Frequency on PS2.

This is the one to topple if you're going to try to move into this space. The game syncs with your bike / trainer so that your in-game speed matches your pedaling speed. It gives you stats, but you can also race against other players, go for high scores, unlock new in-game bikes / jerseys / collectibles, etc.

Now, not to say an exercise bike game is necessarily a good idea, but suggesting there's no crossover whatsoever between fitness and gaming is ignorant.
 
If it makes you give less than 100% on your workout it's pointless. Might as well say read a kindle while you exercise.

The idea like zwift is better but using the sport as a leader board or compeition
 
I remember reading about a VR zombie workout game where you have to run from the zombies or something. I don't know if it was real or not.

You're comparing an expensive ass exercise bike that'll probably be over 1000 dollars considering the tech needed to put a video game in it and the parts necessary to make this thing to wii fit, wii fit plus, and ring fit adventure my man. Now do wii fit, wii fit plus, and ring fit adventure cost over 1000 to play or buy and do they require a decent sized space for an exercise bike? You're being disingenuous and you know it.

I want a Road Rash style one that you play online. If someone whips you with a chain, your bike falls over in real life.

An 87 page waiver will need to be signed before you can play.

There have been plenty of exercise bikes with built-in games before. I've even seen them at two gyms I've went to in the past month.

I don't know why people here are speaking as if this is a new concept that doesn't already exist and isn't already purchasable under multiple brands.

You wouldn't put it past Nintendo to release something like a "Leg Sensor" packaged with a game for Switch 2, and you wear the sensor on your ankle while riding an exercise bike you already have? As long as it's a quality game like Ring Fit I could see that being pretty successful. Yeah, a whole ass exercise bike is probably not a great idea, lol.
 
Thinking about it, just a side table with any kind of tablet that can play games alongside a regular exercise bike wouldn't be so bad. Especially if someone wants to burn calories as you have to be on the motherfucker for so long. I'd probably pick a baby game like parkasaurus like I do if I'm in bed with a cold.

I'll phrase it in that it feels too niche to invest in and take a risk on. If i wanna be less harsh on this topic then i'll say that the only company who could possibly succeed doing this would be nintendo. They have worldwide brand IP that is big enough to get something like this to work. Maybe you have buttons on the handles of the bike that can be used for jumping or hopping and they could have it so the character moves as you pedal and by jumping 'using the handlebar buttons' you complete challenges and collect points to get high scores. The bike tracks everyone through a leaderboard etc and keeps track of you and your progress through your nintendo online profile.

Ya idk how a whole exercise bike would work but i threw an idea out there in one of my posts above just to put something out there lol. And i can see nintendo doing what you're saying and making bank off of it. Nintendo are the one company that does weird exercise things pretty well so i wouldn't put it past them to come up with something unique. Ring fit was an excellent game tbh i agree.
 
I spend 30 minutes on my bike in my office each day. I either listen to ambient noise and get lost in thought, or I put on YouTube on my tablet. I am purposely trying to distract my brain while my body is busy getting repetitive work done.

So no, I wouldn't want to turn that into something I need to actively pay attention to.
 
Love the idea having fun while exercising instead of doing it just for your health. There's a vr app that lets you ride anywhere from google earth called vzfit. Always though one of those vertical climber machines would make a good vr experience.
 
Considering the surprising amount of complaints from the heavier handhelds or the rejoicing of split controllers to finally achieve the perfect comatose playing style? That's a nah, dawg. People bitch about having to get up to put a disc in, you think there's a huge market for actual exercise?
 
I think something with rhythm, like high bpm stuff would be good. Something that help getting you into a flow state, so you dont focus on how much what you are currently doing actually kinda sucks (riding a stationary bike indoors), plus the lack of oxygen, maybe your muscles or joints hurting, etc. Just some dopamine to get you over the bump till the runners high sets in.

Basically beat saber for a bike. Do that and get rich.
 
I suspect Nintendo thought of this but then killed it when they realized they couldn't manufacturer an affordable stationary bike.
 
I remember a clip I saw on TV where a gym teacher hooked up a PS1 or PS2 to an exercise bike and kids can only play it if they biked. The peddling provided the power I think.
