With xbox consoles in the shitter and sony management suffering from brain rot it would be the ideal time for sega to make a comeback in the console hardware space , as a former sega fan i want this to happen
Does neogaf agree?

Cmon SEGA , now is the perfect time for revenge , slay the beast while it is wounded.

I love and miss Sega's consoles

However I don't want Sega to bankrupt themselves again, so no.

If we lived in a fantasy world where it was feasible and Sega could churn out exclusives at the rate they were in 1996 and 2000… abso-bloody-lutely!

Don't want to see Sega disappear due to another hardware failure. Just give us a Sega launcher/storefront with their new and current stuff but more importantly their entire back catalogue across every format:

SG-1000, Master System, Game Gear, Megadrive/CD/32X, Saturn, Dreamcast, Arcade, Xbox, Gamecube, etc, etc....

Now that would be a thing of beauty!

You're triggered by my post and cireza cireza but really, tell us what's left in terms of studios over at Sega?

RGGS and Atlus mainly right? Those are niche games, jRPG going over 2M sold copies is already hard to achieve on multiple platforms, on a sega console it would be abysmal. Sonic team is a shadow of itself. The teams that made good dreamcast games are iirc all gone? They simply don't have the output to sustain a console

with microsoft and sony banking on multiplatform growth , xbox studios and ps studios will give it most of the games.
in terms of whats left at sega , i dont know , maybe they can rehire some of the older talent.

I owned a Genesis, Game Gear and Dreamcast growing up. I was never a Sega "fan" but I enjoyed their consoles as a side thing. I'd be down for a comeback.

The scope isn't really there for them to comeback, and the company themselves haven't looked back since 2001 when it comes to hardware...that being said though here's a great video about their last console:

Sega knew all too well that a PS2 was on the horizon, not as if Sony were in it just for one console, problem was Service Games had no margin for error when it came to launch and support of the console...

How do you even imagine a world where a new Sega console could work when even Microsoft with its infinite money warchest is retreating with its tail between their legs?

What kind of library you think it would have? Exclusive Sonic, Yakuza and Persona games (five milion sellers at their best at 5/10 usd sales)? Reboots of their old ips that are worth basically nothing nowadays? New series? Shenmue 4?
The Sega people beloved was the one based around arcade gameplay filosofies, and that shit was unfortunally dead and buried already in the early 2000s.
You really want the new console to be another Playstation/Xbox clone with games that would be nothing like the ones we used to like? Just because you like the brand?

Yes, I would love this.

Dreamcast was fantastic, and i really wish it had succeeded. I remember how it had games such as DOA and several others looking super clean and crisp, whereas PS2 was suffering from very visible aliasing. Don't get me wrong, I loved the PS2 but that's a simple fact.

I would definitely be interested to see what SEGA would bring to the table with a console on par or surpassing current gen consoles, not counting Switch 2, sorry.

Utsumi said his greatest achievement was to revive SEGA, but I don't see a new console. So nothing was revived. Waiting for him to put these words into action.

Uh? You're gonna have to make this more eloquent

Didn't even know that list existed, good thing they mentioned sales don't matter

But as I said, Atlus RPGs and RGGS Yakuza games are not sustaining a console. Atlus without PC is tanking again to very niche status from an already niche market that barely breaks 2M units

I don't know what's into Sega fans and their constant dream of having sega back in the arena but they clearly don't have any single solid business case. Thank god sega is smarter than the fan base, they will survive by not listening to them.

What would be the benefit to gamers in having a new Sega console? Why would anyone choose to play games on this hypothetical console instead of PS5, Switch 2, or PC? Why would Sega want to spend the R&D to develop a new platform? Why would other publishers want to support another (niche) platform?

The only reason for this thing to exist is so nostalgic boomers could feel good about seeing "Sega" on a box under their TVs. Sounds like a great way for Sega to piss away a billion dollars and bankrupt themselves.

They would kill Sega once and for all but for a small moment in time they bought a niche hardware with Sega logo that had no fucking chance at success ever

Everyone (cept elephant Nintendo) is moving to multi platform for big cash, here comes Sega going all in on a closed platform for a few remaining fans 🤣

PC gamers wouldn't budge to follow Atlus games just like clearly they didn't budge when Atlus was being stupid and not releasing their games on it years ago.

What would be the point? Having to buy another piece of hardware to play the same games that are already available to me on Ps5/PC/Switch/Xbox?
That's assuming they'd even make them exclusive which would probably kill their profitability. Their games are generally good but most of them aren't particularly huge sellers despite launching on every platform.
If Metaphor sold 2 million across PC, Ps5 and Xbox, what would it sell on the Sega console? 100K?
