and then go out to purchase a new one to replace it? If so then you might be glad there is a "Core System." I have gone through a couple of each console I have ever owned and never buy used. Without the "core system" your options are buy a cigarette stained used console or pay $100 for a bunch of crap you already have.

Just something to ponder about a few years down the line when that Chineese manufacturing comes and bites you in the ass with Disc Read Errors.

The only thing I have had break on my XBOX is a DVD drive, but I have all kinds of parts lying around so put my spare XBOX DVD drive in. Works like a charm. Or just pay 50 bucks for an extended warranty, that’s still less then buying a whole new console.

the damage control is very high here...

Yes lets replace common sense with damage control. That's the ticket.

I have bought 3 Xboxes myself. 1 went bad and the other was getting there. I don't like to wait and send off my console to be worked on so I buy a new one and still get some trade in credit. Just no sense in paying for a bunch of stuff you already have.

So you are saying the pricing scheme is good because of the unreliable quality of MS products? This means since you will eventually have to replace the X360 since it is poorly built you will be able to save $100 since you won't have to replace some of the acessories?

Dude you are high.

Yes just as high as everyone else who has had a product break and decides to purchase another one new. I worked at a Gamstop long enough to know I am not in a vast minority. I could also bring the PS2 sales into the discussion as most people I know have purchased more then one PS2. Electronic goods are not made to last forever, yet usually last longer then the extended warranties that are offered.

I soldered my chip myself.. now the solder broke off and now I can't activate the chip OR eject the tray. :P I'll have a shot at it once I get some proper wire to solder with.. I used some THICK shit. :P

I am not saying that electronics don't break, unless they are nintendo, but that justification is just dumb.

I've had to replace my Xbox once before because I started getting errors, games kept coming up as "dirty or damaged" *cough..FABLE x100*. I had a Thompson drive.

Got another one with another Thompson drive. I'm being very careful now.

With the PS2, I still have my first one from launch, amazingly enough. Everyone I know that has had one are on their 2nd - 4th PS2.

I've had one PS2 and haven't replaced mine. I've had 3 xboxes.

I went through 3 xboxes this generation

1. Launch system: hard drive malfunction
2. Launch system: disc drive crapped out
3. Power supply screwed up

if this launch xbox 360 craps out before a price drop... im returning my xbox 360 for a PS3.

I am not justifying anything. Just glad to have the option of a core system instead of buying used, or purchasing items I already have. Oh well I could care less now. WE9 is online next year so most of my time will be spent on the jolly ol Xbox.

Yes lets be happy about a 300 version instead of spending $50 on a warranty. Good plan. :lol

Yes well I usually get my games where the extended warranty consists of "One Year" on hardware. My consoles tend to last longer then that so it's not exactly a bargin. My launch Xbox lasted to 2004. There is no warranty I know of that would have covered it.

Congrats on making a funny though!

You might want to check with customer support before buy anymore xboxes. I've had my xbox since early 2002 and microsoft replaced it despite the warranty being out. They said individual parts inside the box were still under warranty when I gave the manufacture date on the xbox. This was only a month ago. The only major problems I've ever had with a gaming system was a PS2. Myself and 3 other roomates are stuck with broken PS2 and three of those have been replaced and are now broken again. Never had a problem with PS1
