On paper, it seems like the best product ever... Yet I hear no one talk about it.

Any impressions? I'm on the PC side of things btw.

I've got two. Its a good product, works well with PCs/Macs/Stereos/USB Printers. Nothing much really to say about it other than if you want a device that has all its functions, its perfect. If you don't need a device that performs all its functions, it will be a little on the expensive side.

Have one, typing this from my 12" PowerBook over it ... simple to install, great functionality ... would buy it again.

The only reason I've been tempted to get one is that I'd love to stream iTunes from the computer in my bedroom to my main home theater setup in the living room. (Which begs the question of why I'd want to stream 128 kbps AAC to an expensive stereo, rather than playing the CDs I ripped the music from in my DVD/CD player, but anyway...) I don't need any of the other functions -- in fact, I'd have to install wireless capability in my computer, since I currently have a wired setup.

Are there non-Airport Express options which would integrate with iTunes, fulfill the same function, and be cheaper?

I have one. They're extremely useful. I find though that it's more a collection of little cool things rather than one big OH MY GOD I NEED IT FOR THAT reason. Like I use it for music whenever we have people over (I'll bring it downstairs and plug it into the stereo), I've used it on holiday, use it for instant wireless at my friend's house, etc.

I think I'm confused a bit on how it works in regards to music shares. Even moreso now after you mentioned plugging it into the stereo.

I have one and plan on buying another within the next week or so to extend/augment the signal. I love the simplicity and straight-forwardness of the bundled software.

There is one inherent flaw in AE's design, though. Airport Express will always be located at the height of an electrical outlet. The majority of electrical outlets (as well as phone jacks if you're using DSL) are located just a few inches above the floor baseboard. Being so close to the floor inhibits AE from broadcasting to its maximum range. Now, you could use an extension cord, but then you lose the underlying all-in-one feature that makes AE the sexy networking device that it is.
