Anyone here have any experience with Smart Pens?

I've been looking for a tool to help me record notes, thoughts, discussions, etc and I'm particularly interested in buying a smart pen. Right now I'm researching Livescribe's 4GB Echo pen and I was wondering if anyone here has one or if you have experience with some other smart pen.

For those of you not familiar with what I'm talking about, watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKQlN7RJclo

They seem to be great audio recorders, but I'm not sold on the note recording function. There's also the fact that you have to purchase special paper for it to work. It seems like a fantastic product on the surface, but I'm always hesitant when something seems too good to be true. What I'm trying to get at though is whether it's worth it or not. What do you think gaf?

I keep expecting this sort of thing:

I have a 2GB Livescribe. It is pretty awesome. Audio and what is written down. It is perfect for what I do. I recommend it.

It is nice because I generally don't want to have to listen to the audio again if I 'got it' (in my brain or on paper) but if I didn't get something or forgot it, you just click on the particular area of the notes and it places the audio that was being said when you wrote that particular note.

Nope, just found out about these recently when I saw a display at bestbuy. Great idea.

Seems to have a quite a few reviews you could check out from end users.

I've seen these used in person and they are quite incredible. I did some usability testing for some software with someone taking notes right next to me. Very awesome. Synched up audio, video (via a computer) and the notes he was taking in real time. Then he could put his pen on any location on the (specially made) paper pad he was writing on and it would back up the audio and video to that specific point in time.

I'm honestly waiting for this to come out. It's only $99 and will be a hell of a lot easier to manage than paper in general. Also it will be much easier to give copies of notes to friends rather than having to run to a copier and use money for it.

I thought that thing was vaporware.

Yeah, that feature is definitely pretty useful. I also like the fact that it can translate and verbalize between several different languages. regardless of how effective it is, the thought and ideas being put into these things are remarkable.

I didn't know, I just heard about it from a friend recently and it's apparently set on coming out in June. I'll buy one for sure at that price.

Okay, that's pretty cool: I'd pay $99 for it.
