Anyone here played Gothic II?

Picked it up for cheap, just started playing and I'm enjoying the forced old school epicness of the first few hours (no automap for you, enemies too hard for you to kill RIGHT AROUND EVERY CORNER). I gotta ask though, are there multiple endings, how different are the three guilds in the kind of quests and story you get? How replayable is it? Do you get a KOTOR style different experience if you act evil instead of good?

I've had it forever and have yet to play it (got it for $9.99), though it's been installed. I always get killed by the thief waiting for you at the cave right at the beginning and quit :lol . I mean, I can appreciate challenging combat that forces you not to go out and uber-level right away, but still, the first NPC combat you have should at least be relatively winnable without just plain luck.

I like it's somewhat Morrowind-esque world, but it's actually populated. :)

I've got so many games to finish that I'm in the middle of I don't know when I'll start playing Gothic II.

Huh I killed him somewhat easily with the Tree Branch (just stand there and wail at him when he gets close). of course the uber thief *inside* the cave is beyond me.

Don't know about the endings as I've yet to actually finish a game. The guilds, however, do affect how the game plays out. Each has its own line of guild quests, and npcs in the world react to you differently based upon guild association. There are still many 'general' quests, but you will notice a difference. At least, I did. The sorceror guild, in particular, results in a different set of quests that are pretty neat in their own right. This is what I got the most replayability out of as well, just dinking around with different groups to experience the varying quests.

If gothic 2 really accomplishes something, though, it's putting the fear of ORCS back into you. Those bastards!
