Anyone know where I can find info on HDs that will work in Xboxes?

I'm looking into getting that 160GB Seagate hard drive.

I want to swap out the HD that's in my Xbox with a larger one, and I'll have this 160GB one and a 120GB one that I can switch it with.

I know there's a list somewhere of HDs that work well with the Xbox (i.e. can be locked easily), but I don't remember where.

Yeah, it's not that serious. You just have to be able to lock it.

What a coincidence, I'm currently tearing my hair out trying to get this HDD to properly fit into the ports of my PS2 net adapter (for some HDLoader action)..

I made a thread about this last week.

Just saying.

My 120gig seagate that i bought as a result (Thanks Blimblim i think it was you who recommended seagate) works like a dream.

Samsung or Maxtor generally fit in nicely.

Just got HD loader myself. Unfortunately some games don't work with it, i haven't had probs like that with my xbox.

Some games don't speed up load times that much or at all...I was hoping to get better load times with WRC...but the damn thing just loads up at the same speed. By looking at the HD activity light, it just loads a bit, sits there, then loads a bit more and ends up being the same loading time.

:(

I wish I could find a nice $20-$25 80GB HD.

Both the 160 and 120 are too large for my Xbox needs, and would be a waste of gigabytes.

160 and 120Gb Too much for Xbox needs?!!?!

I have 100GB in mine and only about 10GB free.

You can never have too much space IMO. BTW I have a WD 100GB and have had no problems (Knock on wood).

:lol

All good things eventually come to an end. It's certain models of their drives that fail often though. I have a 60GB Maxtor in my home rig. It's the oldest HDD I have and it does well for now.

Large HDDs are only good for XBOXs that don't sit in one place, have no home network or for those w/ no DVD burner.

Cool, finaly got the HDLoader to work on my PS2.. loading SCII (4GB file) takes about 30 minutes tho.

Dont forget it halves* the loading times.

*At least

Ive stuck all my non-live games on the modded xbox now, just makes for a better experience i find.

isn't backing up your games illegal?

I don't do anything illegal with my modded Xbox. The bigger hard drive would be for my Linux partition.

The DMA says it's perfectly legal to make backup copies of software you bought and own.

I don't think it covered rentals. :D

I do!
