Hahaha, I just saw this old video for "The Hardest part of breaking up" and, well, I posted this music video review in my blog. Any comments?
------------------------
So I was watching the music video for the song, "The Hardest Part of Breaking Up (Is Getting Back My Stuff)" by the old one-hit-wonder boy band called 2Gether. For those of you not completely there, that's just a snazzy way of saying 'together'. See, most people look at me and stare when I mention the comedic classic that is this music video. But they don't see it the way that I do. So I'm going to take this time to enumerate the reasons why this video is "ze shit", as they say in France.
1) First off, there's a guy in the band named QT. He's dead. Maybe it isn't exactly funny, but I think the rule on music videos starring dead artists is like it is when you get baseball cards of dead baseball players. They go up in value. That's the rule, right? Right. Of course it is. So exnay on the TQ-ay... but the value benefits greatly. He died for a good cause... my entertainment.
2) The video has a guy in here called Kevin Farley. He plays the 'fat' guy in the band. Now, maybe that in itself isn't funny. But what makes it funny is that he's indeed Chris Farley's little brother. So it's tied to ANOTHER dead person, which kind of increases value. But the main reason it's value goes up is because watching Kevin in the video reminds one of what it was like to watch Chris, and that's never a bad thing. Bonus points for teenager jailbait joke in the video, too.
3) Now there's a white rapper in this video. And, as white rappers go, this one opted to say "muhg" instead of the obligatory "muthafucka" or "mofo". Really blanded it up, hm? Well once you see a white guy in a FUBU shirt saying, "Yea yea yea, Mickey Park up in this MUHG"... how can you not chuckle? I surely don't know. Maybe God would know... though I doubt that, too.
4) The best part about this video is that one of the guys in it currently has a real career as a host of While You Were Out on HGTV (your mom probably watches is... since Martha went to jail this is the only happiness our moms have anymore on Sunday mornings). So you know that while watching this video, this dude who keeps it totally real on another show is constantly worried that somebody is going to whip out a 2gether CD for him to sign. Knowing that there are exactly 5... well, now 4, people out there who live with this fear day after day just amuses me to no end. The fact that this guy's whole schtick could be wrecked with one showing of this video on HGTV is even greater. Basically it's the equivalent of watching Ice Dancing on a hill next to the Grand Canyon. You may be able to tap around it for awhile, guy, but sooner or later you'll slip up, and once you do, you're gone.
This video also gets a few extra credit points here. Number one, obviously, is that the girl in the video is scorching hot. Now, a hot girl in the music video doesn't automatically necessitate an awesome rating, but it definitely doesn't hurt your chances. Another honorable mention point is the fact that it's totally tearing on TRL the whole time. I'm not even going to elaborate. Just imagine a music video that SLAMS TRL instead of catering to it. Salivating yet?
See? Don't you wanna watch it now? Go ahead and watch it. It'll make you remember the days of yore, when we could pillage a village and not get in trouble for it. Damn cops... always ruining our fun.
